Speaking of speaking out...

Where was the chorus of boos from the right and from Fox News when Helen Thomas got fired for speaking her mind? The only differences between her and Juan Williams is that she spoke out against Israel's treatment of the Palestinians and she didn't work for Fox.

If it was okay for the AP to fire Helen for what she said, then it's okay for NPR to fire Uncle Juan for what he said.

Case closed.

I never thought I'd say this but...

...I actually agree with something said by Gov. Rick Perry (R TX).

I agree with him when he says that Washington needs to stop thumbing it's nose at the American people. You see, the American people have resoundingly voted for change in the past two election cycles and we haven't gotten it yet.

  • We voted for a more equitable and liberal country and we have not gotten it yet, we're still attached to the rotting ball sacks of multinational corporations, the military industrial complex, and the prison industrial complex.
  • The majority of Americans want us out of the quagmire in Iraq and they don't want the war in Afghanistan escalated, and yet we're still there.
  • A majority of Americans wants single payer universal health insurance in this country and we still have not gotten it yet, and it looks like we won't get it either.
  • The majority of the people want the previous administration to be investigated for war crimes and war profiteering and that has not happened yet.
  • The majority of people in this country think the rich and corporations don't pay their fair share of taxes, so why are they not being made to pony up the dough?

So hell yeah, I agree with the Texas panderer, the people in the halls of power in Washington DC do indeed need to start to heed the will of the people and they need to get all those things the majority of us want done, done ASAP.

My advice, Mr. President, is to:

Stop.

Stop trying to work with the Congressional Republicans on the stimulus package. Their leader Rush Limbo has already given his party members their marching orders and those orders are to make sure you fail. They voted en masse against your package even after you put things in it to appease them. They have shown that they have no interest in working with you, moving our economy and our country forward, or doing what's best for the highest amount of people so my advice to you is to stop placating them and move on.

********
Also sir, stop with the tax cut nonsense. Tax cuts never work and they do not stimulate anything. They take money out of the federal treasury at a time when we need all the cash we can get. If I were you, instead of cutting taxes, I'd raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans and on big American corporations who are sending jobs over seas.

********
We, liberals and progressives, won the past two elections so let's grow a pair and start governing with our interests in mind instead of the conservatives. They had their chance and they failed because conservatism doesn't work for the vast majority of the people in this country, but progressivism damn sure does and it's our country's last best hope of returning to greatness after the debacle of the Bush years.

********
Please get on with the business of being a progressive President and let's bring an end to the war of terror on Iraq, get health care or at least Medicare for all Americans, let's rebuild our infrastructure, and let's stop asking for help from the people who got us into this mess in the first place. Tax cutters, deregulators, and the greed of big business got us into this mess and only a big juicy Presidential stimulus package can get us out of it.

********
We're counting on you big guy, don't let us down.

Stay classy you right wingers!

Here's a truly sick quote from a right wing blog:

Obama dropped everything in the last two weeks of a heated Presidential campaign to visit his sick grandma in Hawaii today (any grandma worth her salt would have said, "don't be silly, win the presidency and visit me in two weeks).

I knew these people could not contain themselves. I knew from the second I heard he was going to visit his ailing Grandmother that they would claim all sorts of crap. I figured it would be that he was going out there to make sure that only he was in the will, but they've gone even lower than that. They're claiming he's going out to Hawaii to quash his old birth certificate that shows he was born outside of the USA, which I find really funny. The man who was born in the USA, no matter how they parse it Hawaii is in the USA, is being challenged by supporters of the man who was born outside of the USA, Bush McCain was born in Panama on a US military base.

If Sen. Obama hadn't gone to see his ailing Grandmother and she died while on the campaign trail they would have claimed he was cold, callous, politically manipulating, and unconcerned with the lives of those around him. They would have said that he cares more about getting elected than he does about the woman who helped make hm what he is today. But in their sick twisted eyes he's not only damned if he doesn't, he's damned if he does because evidently only they know what sick grandma's worth their salt would say.

I wonder if those right wing bloggers ever get tired of being the moral compass for our country? Do they ever get tired of being the only ones who do the correct thing? I hope their heads explode when Obama wins this thing in a landslide electoral college victory.

"That one."

My impressions of last night's debate:
  • Bush McCain's outrage over the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was funny. He still thinks their failure is what has led to the current economic meltdown. He and his lobbyist advisers don't have a clue, or more likely won't let themselves admit, that all this has been caused by deregulation and lack of vigorous governmental oversight. His running mate is still shrieking in her shrill faux populist accent, "Government, get out of the way!"
  • I, like most Americans, cringed when he called Obama, "That one."
  • Obama looked cool and calm through out the whole debate. Bush McCain by contrast looked flighty and extremely rude. While Obama gave his answers Bush McCain kept moving around behind him as if to distract viewers and the times when he interrupted Sen. Obama were not only intolerable they showed what an impatient petulant old fart he is.
  • I laughed out loud when Bush McCain said he knew how to "fix" Social Security. He said several times that it is going to be easy to "fix" it and that he knew how. The problem is he didn't go into specifics, he just claimed that he knew how to fix it. I'm not sure what he's got in mind but I damn sure know how to fix it and I'll tell you my plan for making it solvent until the end of time: under the current system you only pay SSI tax on the first $96,000 (or something close to that figure anyway) and after that you pay nothing on the rest of your income. I would remove that cap so that all incomes no matter how high they got would all pay the same SSI tax rate. Bingo, problem solved.
  • Tom Brokaw hated not being part of the debate more than he was. His little remarks about how little time they had were annoying as hell. If you had so little time Tom, then why did you waste more of it by carping about it?
  • They just had to stick a question in there about supporting Israel. Holy shit, is there anyone in this country who doesn't think that we won't attack Iran or someone else if they fuck with Israel? Give it a rest already, it's foregone conclusion. How about next time instead of asking about protecting Israel you ask about protecting us from greedy rapacious corporations who want to devour all the wealth and natural resources they possibly can? How about a question or two about the growing gap between the haves and have nots? How about a question on poverty?

This picture from last night's debate really sums up for me the essence of this race, Obama is the clear strong favorite, the candidate of the future who happened to win today. And Bush McCain is the fuzzy old man who has been left behind, just like his failed discredited conservative policies have been, as the country as moved on into the future.

You knew it was coming...

...the Presidential race just got a whole lot uglier. I expect the anti-liberal crowd to form an angry torch wielding mob any second now.

Don't get fooled again

When the shit hit the fan the other day about the financial crisis on Wall Street the Dow Jones industrial stocks dropped 500 points. Then the next day they rose 400 points. Crazy huh?

You're damned right it's crazy. And you are just as crazy if you think this is all over because of a one day rebound in stock prices. The fact is the fundamentals of our economy are not strong, no matter how many times a rich white man tells you they are.

If home ownership is out the reach of millions of working class families then the fundamentals of our economy are not strong.

If retirement accounts and 401K's are shrinking every day then the fundamentals are not strong.

If politicians who once championed deregulation with every breath they took are now against that very same deregulation they championed then the fundamentals are out of whack.

If you can't make ends meet after working two or three jobs then there is something fundamentally wrong about the current state of our economy.

If the only people who can get welfare in this country are the heads of huge corporations that gave tons of money to the politicians who are now bailing them out, then the fundamentals of our economic system stink like a fresh steaming pile of crap.

The fundamentally rotten nature of conservative Republican economics has finally culminated in this current meltdown. Just a few months back they were blaming all this on a few people who had gotten home loans they could not afford. Now they're blaming it on the institutions that made the bad home loans, but they have refused to lay the blame where it really lies: on the politicians who deregulated the banking and financial sector and the free market economic zealots like Milton Friedman and his acolytes.

With the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 the conservatives began to systematically tear down and dismantle FDR's New Deal and LBJ's Great Society. The fiscal conservatives had always wanted to bring down those programs that FDR and LBJ built which had helped so many crawl out of poverty and had helped reign in the power of greedy bankers and businesses but they didn't have the clout to do it until they joined forces with the religious conservatives of the so called "Moral Majority." United at last in their hatred of "left wing" social programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, and of the Great Depression era laws that kept the banks and stock markets in check the newly powerful conservative movement began working day and night to turn America back into the country it was before working and middle class people had protections from predatory banks and financiers.

And under George W. Bush they finally got their wish.

And look where it's gotten us.

And now they want us to think that everything is going to be okay now that the Dow Jones Industrial stocks have rebounded. That's bullshit. When more people shop at stores that are locally owned rather than shopping at big box retailers, then our economy will rebound. When more people grow their own food and they sell their surplus to their friends and neighbors, then our economy will rebound. When people who work blue collar jobs can afford to buy a house, then our economy will rebound. When we have the kind of strong and vigorous regulation and oversight of banks and the financial sector like we had in the wake of the Great Depression, that when our economy will rebound.

Don't listen to Mike Huckabee, Rush Limbo, Laura Inghram, and other Bush McCain campaign hacks, the market will not correct itself. The market did not correct itself during the Great Depression, nor did it do it in Wiemar Germany, nor did it do it in Chile after we installed Pinochet in a coup. Free market economics are a sham. And as we are finding out the hard way, deregulating the banks and financial markets was a bad idea. Corporations will do anything they can get away with to make money for a few shareholders, it's the job of the government to protect the millions of us who are not shareholders in corporations from them and their greedy business practices.

Who's watching the watchmen?

When I saw this I immediately thought of Stephen Colbert's great line from his infamous White House Press Club dinner appearance that went something like this, "The facts have a well known liberal bias." And it also reminds me of how Cheney went around spouting about how Amnesty International said that Saddam Hussein was a bad man before we attacked Iraq but after we began our now endless occupation he dismisses their concerns and calls them a far left whacko organization.

Republicans, they'll do anything to get elected and stay in office so they and their pals in big business can steal our rights and what little cash most of us have.

There they go again

Bush McCain has taken whining to a new level in the past few days. He is claiming that the whole tenor of the campaign would be different if only Sen. Obama had agreed to appear with him in town hall style debates around the country.

I'll wait for you to stop laughing at how idiotic that sounds before I continue.

You done yet?

It's okay, get it all out before you finish reading.

So the smears would never have come out if only Obama had decided to stop running his campaign the way he wanted to and which so far has won him not only the Democratic party nomination but also millions of newly registered voters, but of course it remains to be seen if they'll be allowed to vote in their states due to voter caging by entrenched Republicans who will stop at nothing to cling to power. If only Obama didn't go out and give those great stump speeches that fire up the party, bring in hundreds of thousands of new voters, and inspire the base then McCain would have called off his attack dogs and stopped the lies. Oh, if only, if only.

If only my ass. The tenor of this campaign would be as nasty as the last two Presidential campaigns have been no matter what Obama agreed to. As long as people like Karl Rove work for and advise the Bush McCain campaign then they'll use the slash and burn attack style of campaigning that we've all come to expect from them. They'll use every dirty trick and lie in the book to cling to power because they can. As long as Bush remains the most hated President in the history of this country and as long as Obama and the rest of us keep tying him to Bush then Bush McCain will keep smearing Obama with lie after lie. Make no mistake here, they'd attack Jesus Christ for not being a better messiah if he was running against Bush McCain.

This notion that if only Obama had agreed to McCain's preferred style of debate, which by the way favors style over substance, which would have allowed McCain to look witty and mavericky and would have let him escape from actually saying anything of substance, is as much nonsense as McCain's assertion that only he knows how to catch Osama Bin Laden and he'll only do that if we let him become President.

He can change the tenor of the campaign if he wants and he could talk about the issues that we all care about if he wanted. But he won't do it because he's on side opposite of most Americans on all the big issues of this election year. He's wrong on taxes, he's wrong on the economy, he's wrong on the war. If I was him I'd cling to a flimsy excuse to keep smearing my opponent too. I'd do anything to keep the voters from finding out my positions on the issues if I was him too. But the place where he and I would part ways is I would not have made a crass cynical political pick of an inexperienced governor who hails from a state where most every one in the Republican party is foul with the stink of corruption. If it was me, I'd have picked someone who is actually ready to step in the Presidency if something happened to me.

But what the feck do I know? I'm just a blogger and we all know how Bush McCain feels about us, he hates us. And to top that off, I'm from a nation of whiners. And I never was a POW and I'm not a lobbyist so why should Bush McCain listen to me?

Party of hope, party of fear

I've noticed the Obama and McCain commercials during the Olympics and the biggest difference between them, besides the lies in the McCain ads, is that it's obvious that the Republicans are attacking Obama to try to keep people as scared as Bush/Cheney did.

Bush McCain's ads start from a fearful place, fear of an educated black man, fear of "the other." They want to keep the sheeple cowed and frightened of trying something new because by golly it's scary and we should just stay with what we've got. They use the old canards that Obama is going to raise taxes and cut jobs, as if he could do either since Congress controls the purse strings of the nation and the only jobs Obama can cut are those of his cabinet.

Obama's ads, thus far anyway, have focused not on the fear of what Bush McCain will do but on what all of us can achieve together, things like tackling the climate crisis and job creation in the alternative energy fields. It's refreshing to see my candidate remind us that we can be a better country if we all work together.

And since they seem to be grasping at straws as their man gasps his way in this election, it's refresing to see the Bush McCain campaign stick with the same kind of campaign that lost them so many Republican seats in 2006.

What a great week to be a Liberal!

We got us another corrupt Republican scalp to add to our belts:
"Our" media is doing it's usual great job.

And our plan to discredit conservatives by murdering ourselves has finally come to fruition.

Good times, good times (he says sarcastically).

Those liberals and gays will kick your ass every time

The shooting spree that took place yesterday in Knoxville, which is about an hour and a half west of Monkey Central, showed just how much conservatives hate modern America. The ones who did not do the shooting, the hacks in the NRA and the corporate media, will all cry, "This is not the time to talk about gun control! We need more citizens armed so they can do things like this! After we kill teh gays we'll go after women who have had abortions and people who don't love the same Jesus that we do!" And now we know that the piece of shit who did the shooting hated liberals and gays more than life itself.

I guess the shooter bought into the media meme, pushed mostly by the cowards at the National Review Online, that us liberals and gays would just sit idly by while someone with a big gun shot us all down. He must have thought that those heroes in that church congregation were just going to cower and whimper while he sprayed hot conservative Republican lead in all directions.

Well Mr. Asshole Big Gun Totin' Shooter, I guess you found out different. I'm betting now that your ass is in jail you wish you hadn't listened to all those lies that said liberals and gays were weak and wouldn't defend themselves and their children. I'm willing to go so far as to say that when you get sent to prison for the rest of your life and Big Bubba and or Big Tyrone is anally raping you without the benefit of lubing you up first then boy howdy you'll be wishing you hadn't listened to all that hate filled right wing talk radio that said that burly conservative Republicans with guns could do just whatever they wanted.

Make no mistake people, the man who did this shooting is a conservative Republican or possibly a Libertarian and his motives were to wipe out as many liberals, gays, and gay friendly people as he could. He was no doubt hopped up on right wing hate radio and FOX news. So when they try and convict this piece of crap they ought to be trying Rush Limbaugh, Rupert Murdoch, and all the rest of the right wing hate mongers in the corporate media along with him.

Somehow I doubt the heroes of this shooting will be lionized and feted in the press. The press, with the possible exception of Keith Olbermann, will ignore the fact that the shooter was a product of right wing radio and FOX news and they'll ignore or gloss over the fact that the people who stopped him were liberal gay friendly people. And I'm willing to bet that some right wing religious nut job is going to say that the people in that church got what they deserved because they're liberal and gay loving.

Let this be a lesson to all you people out there who hate liberals, gays, and gay friendly people, if you fuck with us we will defend ourselves, even if you have a gun.

Setting them straight

When I saw the above picture of that billboard (I blacked out their website address because I will not give them any more publicity than I have to.) on Think Progress it sickened me that someone would be stupid enough to try to tie Democrats to 9/11 when after all Bush Jr was President and he'd been warned that Bin Laden was determined to attack America sooner or later and he and Condi and the rest of his gang of thugs dismissed that bit of intelligence so they could take us into war with Iraq for no other reason than letting the big western oil companies control the oil in Iraq. I shook my head when I saw this and I decided to let it go. Then a few moments ago I saw this story on Crooks & Liars and it had a link to a website where you can read the lyrics of the guy who paid for this billboard's song. After I read the insipid lyrics, which claim the Constitution is under attack from liberals and that we need to just sit back and let our soldiers "win the war," I saw where you can email the guy who wrote this piece of crap so I sent him this email:

The Constitution is under attack...from the right wing. Bush and his buddies in the Congress have shredded the fourth amendment and your president, and he sure as hell is yours and not mine because my President would never ever lie to the American people to take us into a war for oil, has taken powers from both the Supreme Court and from Congress that he should never have done.

And your use of the Twin Towers bombings, which I'd like to remind you took place under a Republican president who was warned by a Democratic one that it was going to happen and yet Bush and Condi did nothing, to make money is sickening. You sir are a ghoul who deserves nothing but scorn and derision. (Sorry if I used too many big words in my email to you, I am after all an intellectual elitist Liberal.)

This is America and we still have some freedom of speech, the Republicans have not said we need to give that up in the never ending war on terror yet, so you are free to spread your misinformation. And by the same token I'm free to put this email and and reply you may send me on my blog for the whole world to see.
Have no fear though, life under President Obama will be much safer than it is under Bush Jr. After all he'll be bringing our men and women home and they once they get home the terrorism against them will be ceased.

Sincerely,
Dr. Monkey
********
If they send a reply I'll be sure to post it here for all of you to see and laugh at. However, if they are like my cowardly Republican Congressman and US Senators, they won't have the balls to reply because they are too frightened of the facts.

It's official

You can go ahead and add Gordon Brown to the list of delusional politicians.   Seriously Gordon, we've got enough on our hands dealing with our idiot President, how about you scurry home and stay out of our business until we get rid of Boy George.

Poor Boner

Poor Rep. Boner, he gets all misty and cries when he thinks of the troops coming home before Halliburton and Blackwater can rake in a few more million of our tax dollars. But when it comes time for the people who got us into the war of terror on Iraq and Afghanistan to be held accountable he walks off the playground like an emasculated bully.

You keep doing what you got to do Boner and come November when your minority party loses more seats then I'll laugh like crazy when you try this shit again. You and your Reich wing pals, my asshat Congressman included, hate accountability when it's your party's leaders being held accountable, but you all had better get used to it. Thanks to people like Congressman Wexler and Congressman Waxman the time has come for you and your pals to answer for how you've raped this country and trashed our Constitution.

And now, a message from Wal Mart

Greetings America! How are you? You're doing good we hope!

Listen, can we talk for a minute? Good. We understand some of you have been boycotting us and that some of you have stopped shopping here for whatever reason and we'd like you to come back and give us a try. We know quite a few of you are going to be getting some kind of tax refund or some kind of economic stimulus check from the government and we want you to spend that dough in our stores. In fact we demand that you spend all that money in our stores, if you don't we're going to tell the DHS, FBI, and the CIA that you are damn dirty terrorists and that you're going to use that money to fund the insurgency in Iraq and the Taliban.

Crap, we're sorry, we didn't mean to threaten you so soon America. We're sorry if we pissed you off. Look, tell ya what, since a lot of you have not been in one of our stores lately how about we show you some of our new merchandise? We're sure you're gonna love it! Always!

When you come into our stores now you'll be greeted by the Greet-tron 3000. It's programmed to say "Hello" in English and Spanish and to scan your wallet for cash.

We added a bunch of new, well, almost new, titles to our magazine section. And we kept some old copies of magazines in case you missed some back issues.

We've added a bunch of new paperback books to our line of reading material as well. Don't worry though America, we still only stock G rated romance novels, pro business non fiction, and all the Bible and Christian religion related books that you and your family love so much! What's that America? You say your kids still like that rock and roll music? Well, we've got you covered there! They can listen to all the New Kids on the Block, John Denver, and Amy Grant they like on the state of the art stereo electronics that we offer.Heck, we've even added a slew of VHS tapes for that new fangled VCR you probably got for Christmas. (Don't worry folks, as you can see we still stock the classics as well! Nothing beats a Jimmy Swaggert record America!)Ladies, we've also got a wide selection of housewares on sale now. Decorative lamps too!
We carry a line of furniture now as well. Doesn't that couch and those chairs look comfy? Sure they do, and America, they are priced to move!

All our bedding is allegedly deloused and certified to be possibly bed bug free! What about when you're out of bed and you've got a few minutes to kill between your two or three jobs? Well America, we've got a bunch of new sporting goods in stock and if you happen to hurt yourself playing during your free time we also sell medical equipment too!

Men, can we speak to just the ladies for a minute? Thanks. Ladies, we know we were kind of deficient in the past on the types of fashions we offered. We know some of you hated those old styles we sold but we heard your cries and your complaints and we pepped up our clothing line! Take a look! We've got designer blue jeans now!
Red jeans too!
And even green jeans. We've also got slacks in colorful prints and patterns. And sexy yet still chaste lingerie. Imagine the fun your husband will have taking one of these sexy yet Jesus approved nighties off you after you both get home from a Huckabee for President rally. We've also got a full line of intimates too!

We know how you gals love a hat so we've stocked up on fashionable hats. We carry a full line of poof ball hats and even red cowboy hats like the one that liberal blogger Vikkitikkitavi wears! Yes, you can now try to be as cool as she is.

Don't worry ladies we've also got the men in your life covered. We still sell a shitload of polo style shirts and NASCAR approved apparel.

And of course we did not forget the sex offender in your life, we've got them covered too with our fun and flashy line of rain coats.

So as you can tell America, we've upgraded our stores and our merchandise. We want you back and we're not kidding around. Remember that stuff we said about getting your fat asses tossed in jail if you don't spend more money with us? Well, we're not kidding around, we mean it. We've got cameras in your neighborhoods and we know who is and who isn't shopping in our stores. Don't make us do anything that you're going to regret. Trust us, none of you would look good in those prison orange jumpsuits and your fat lazy asses would not last a week in Gitmo, so if you know what's good for you and for this country, you'd better get in here and start shopping right away.

Wal Mart, Always!

New Year, Same Old Politics

Finally, someone else has written about something that I have been only thinking, or is it having nightmares, about. I guess it's comforting in an odd way that the rich white guys in Grand Old Party aren't about to change with the times and break with the failed policies of their leader. Nope, they don't want to change, in fact they want to go further to the right economically, and I guess it's because there are a few of us that are not slaves to some corporation and there is a bit of land that has not been sold to the latest multi national corporation du jour.

Have you ever wondered what a free market low tax on the rich paradise might look like? You may be asking has there ever been such a wondrous place on this green earth?

Well, actually there has been a country that tried all the things that the current crop of Republican Presidential goons want to do here. This country in question slashed taxes on business, they privatized schools with the use of vouchers, the took all price controls off food and essential items, they swung their borders open wide for foreign investment, they cut off all "socialized" health care and put the hospitals in the hands of private companies, and they did all this in the name of making their country a capitalist paradise on earth.

What happened in this magical country that tried all these wondrous free market tactics? Well, first off inflation spiraled out of control, unemployment shot through the roof, unions were busted, and since the governments economic policies were wildly unpopular with the people of that country, the government kidnapped and or murdered most all it's internal opponents. They then took all rights of protest away from the rest of the populace and they abused the human rights of any one who dared question them. Most of the country suffered greatly, with the exception of the people who were behind the free market policies and the corporations who swooped in and built factories in this new repressive country that now had a docile fearful workforce.

The ultimate betrayal that the people of that country had to endure was that the democracy and freedom loving US government stood by and let all those horrible things happen. In fact, they not only stood by and let the torture and murder of innocent people happen, they actually helped the leaders of that country do those things. And many American corporations took a hand in helping terrorize the citizens of that country as well, companies like Ford, ITT, and General Motors.

So, by now I'm guessing you're asking, "What country tried all the economic policies that the GOP candidates want us to have here int he USA? What country had to suffer through years of repression so that their government could make them a test case for these ruthless "free market" experiments?" Well boys and girls, that country was Chile in the 1970's and '80's.

General Pinochet, with the help and blessing of the US Government, overthrew legally elected President Salvador Allende because they said he was a threat to world peace due to the fact that he was a socialist. Never mind that his policies threatened only multinational corporations and US business interests, and that he had the support of the overwhelming majority of the people. He was not pro ruthless free market so he had to go. And after he was murdered and Pinochet and the army took over, the people and the economy suffered for over 20 years. The unrestrained free market policies they tried failed miserably, except for the corporations and the junta leaders that is. This is all documented in depth in the great new Naomi Klein book. which I highly recommend, The Shock Doctrine.

Now, have you ever wondered if there is a economic system that has been tried that is somewhat equitable? One that helps more people than it hurts? One where business is restrained a bit? One where the workers benefit as well as the corporations? Yes there is. And the good news is it's one we already tried in this country. It's the system that took our grandparents and parents out of poverty and elevated them to the middle class, it's the system that FDR put into place in the '30's and '40's. Under that system companies made money, workers rights were protected, people bought homes and raised families, and most people, though not all, did relatively well.

Now, my question is after you see what they had to do in Chile to get the people there to accept the free market economy that the GOP loves so much, why would we want that in our country? Why would we not do the kinds of things that FDR did to make this country a decent place for all Americans? Why are we supposed to follow more of the same failed policies of the Bush years when we could follow what they did in the post war boom of the '40's and '50's? Our government has become government by the corporations for the corporations. How about we stand up and end this shitty cycle and make 2008 the year we started to take our country back from the greedy corporations and their stooges in our government.

Remember...

...when people like the ones in the picture above say we can't have the types of social programs we want from our national government because it would hurt big business, it's because they owe their livelihoods to big business.

When they tell you we have to cut taxes on businesses and that social programs like Medicaid and Head Start will suffer as a result, they make money off those tax cuts and not off Head Start and Medicaid.

When they say that we've got to keep government out of the "free market," they sure don't mind jumping in the free market when their pals in big business need bailing out.

When they say we've got to keep fighting the "terrorists," what they don't tell is that they are economic terrorists who's business policies helped turn oppressed people into "terrorists" in the first place.

When they say that we've got to privatize Social Security, what they don't tell you is that when a privatized Social Security system fails, they'll be just fine because they are all wealthy old white guys.

It's important to remember that a majority of people in this country do not want this war they shoved on us, that we do not want Social Security to be privatized, that a majority of us want single payer not for profit national health care, that we want programs like Medicaid and Head Start and free college educations and not more tax cuts for businesses. It's time we took our country back from the out of control consumption crazy capitalists. The vast majority of people in this country do not give a shit about what version of Jesus some people worship or if two men want to marry one another. What the vast majority of people in this country want is a return to the style of social programs and policies that FDR, JFK, and LBJ enacted and that made this country great. We want economic and social justice, not less regulation or less taxes on businesses. We want more businesses and the rich to pay their fair share of taxes. And most of all we want a government that works for everyone, not just for rich white men and their trophy wives.

A plea to Republican primary voters

Hey Republicans, I am begging you to make this man your Presidential nominee. Nothing would delight me more than to see this science hating, evangelical, narrow minded, Moon Pie and Vienna Sausage sucking, gravy chugging man as the Republican standard bearer in 2008.

Why do I want to see this man as your nominee? Because any Democrat will thump his ass in the general election. And I do mean any of them. Even Bill Richardson or Chris Dodd would beat the Huckster like a drum. Heck even the late Hubert Humphrey would eek out a victory in a race against the Arkansas god channeler.

The biggest strike Mikey has against him is his small brain. He has a lot in common with dinosaurs, he has a small brain and he refuses to learn, especially when it comes to science. He actually said, and I am going to paraphrase here, that because science changes and his god does not then he will stick with his god over science every time.

Is that right Mike? You'll take your god over science every time? You didn't take what your god gave in when it came to losing weight. You took what science had come up with when you got that weight reduction surgery, your god gave you the will power of a 5 year old kid in a candy store when it came to food and he/she also gave you the metabolism of a tree sloth. But then you went and chose science to help you drop all those pounds.

The real problem I have with that statement of taking god over science every time is that when science changes it's because we learn something new and we know that it is true because it was tested by the scientific method, which is to say that many people doing the same experiment over time have come to the same conclusion. However in the case of your god Mr. Huckabee, many many many people have come to very different conclusions about him/her, none of which can be proven or disproven. So unlike science, which can be proven, tested, and improved upon, your god is thingy is just an idea, and it turns out, a wildly different idea depending on who you ask or talk to.

But when it's convenient for Hukabilly to use science to back up one of his wacky unscientific political viewpoints then he's all over it and he thinks science is the best thing in the world. He recently denied, along with Frederick of Hollywood, that climate change is a real threat to mankind. His reasoning behind this statement is that “scientifically,” he doesn’t know whether global warming is “overblown." Wow, how about that, in one breath he denies the benefits and use of science then in another when it suits his purposes he jumps on sciences bandwagon, although in that case he jumped on a pseudo-scientific bandwagon that was built by ExxonMobil.

Let's look at a few other of the Huckmeisters greatest hits:
  • He claimed at one point that women should submit graciously to their husbands wills, it's part of his Southern Baptist theology. "Wifey, it's my will to beat the shit out of you and then anally rape you." "Hubby, if it is your will then Reverend Huckabee says I must submit graciously." Riiiiiight. That's going to play well with the ladies Mikey boy.
  • He said that since Jesus didn't stop himself from being executed then that means that Jesus supports the death penalty. In pretty much every version of the Bible I've ever read Jesus spoke about turning the other cheek and forgiving others, not about killing people. And his dad did slip that one commandment in the Ten Commandments, you know which one I mean, "Thou shall not kill." Science didn't say that Mike, your god did.
  • He personally intervened in the case of a rapist who was up for parole and he was instrumental in getting that rapist released from prison over the objections of people who knew he would rape again. When the rapist was released he not only raped again he murdered someone in cold blood as well.

So in addition to hating science when it does not suit his needs, he's got the above laundry list of black marks against him. So now you see why I'd love to see that fat head from Arkansas get nominated. If any Republicans in Iowa and New Hampshire read this blog, please vote for Mike Huckabee. Heck, I'd cross party lines, Tennessee is an open primary state and anyone can vote in either primary, and vote for him if it weren't for the fact that if I voted Republican then my head would explode.

Please for the sake of our country, all you Republicans please vote for Huckabee in the primaries.
