Add tags that have to do with the 2nd amendment and the NRA.  I put this comic book panel on there with the line that the 2nd amendment didn't protect ray guns and people went nuts.

Think about it

If you want to show people that guns and assault rifles are safe and that not every gun owner is a murderous idiot one insult away from a mass shooting rampage, then walking around waving your guns at easily frightened people is not the way to do it.

The fact is the streets and people's homes are far safer when there are no guns around.

White people react to the gun control debate

 "Who needs a gun when you got a body like mine?"

Another mass shooting incident with many people dead.  This time in Oregon. 

But it's still not time to talk about handgun control.  Is it?

Get your facts straight

The shootings in Colorado didn't happen because:

• people don't love Jesus enough.
• schools can't force prayer on kids.
• guns laws are too restrictive.
• there are too many taxes.
• liberals want to ban all guns.
• there is marriage equality in some states.
• women have the right to vote.
• abortion is still legal in most parts of this country.

 The terrorist action in that Colorado movie theatre took place because we refuse to deal with mental illness in a sane intelligent way and because we have lax gun laws.  We decided to shred the societal safety net in order to give business and corporations all the money they demand, so that means there is no money for mental illness programs.  We've also decided that the right to bear arms for some is more important than others right to life, so we let any nut case who wants one have a gun.  And not just any gun, but an assault rifle capable of shooting many people in a short amount of time.

So when the people who need it most can't get the treatment they need but they can get a souped up gun that can wipe out 30 or 40 people almost instantly, what do you think is going to happen?  I'm no longer shocked when mass shootings take place.  I'm shocked that more of them don't happen more often.

It this the right time?

If we try to talk about handgun control after a mass shooting the gun nuts and their leader the NRA say we're being 'opportunistic.' But if we try to bring it up during a period when there hasn't been a mass shooting they claim there's no need to talk about it because there hasn't been a shooting lately.

Don't even start

Please, don't even think about talking about reigning in hand guns in the wake of the two latest shooting incidents in Detroit and Washington state. The NRA and the second amendment fetishists won't like any talk about how deaths from hand guns are spiraling out of control, so you just keep your mouth shut and don't point out that in those nations with more stringent hand gun laws this sort of thing almost never happens. Just keep your damn hippie liberal mouth shut about hand guns and the havoc they cause or you may just find yourself shot for your trouble.

And don't say a god damn thing about the firing of Keith Olbermann either or the corporate media will accuse you of left wing bias and they'll send Bill O'Rielly's attack dogs to your house to dry hump you until you take a loyalty oath to our corporate overlords.

Happy Monday America, just keep your mouth shut and accept the ass fuckings that the NRA and the corporate media are handing out.

Those liberals and gays will kick your ass every time

The shooting spree that took place yesterday in Knoxville, which is about an hour and a half west of Monkey Central, showed just how much conservatives hate modern America. The ones who did not do the shooting, the hacks in the NRA and the corporate media, will all cry, "This is not the time to talk about gun control! We need more citizens armed so they can do things like this! After we kill teh gays we'll go after women who have had abortions and people who don't love the same Jesus that we do!" And now we know that the piece of shit who did the shooting hated liberals and gays more than life itself.

I guess the shooter bought into the media meme, pushed mostly by the cowards at the National Review Online, that us liberals and gays would just sit idly by while someone with a big gun shot us all down. He must have thought that those heroes in that church congregation were just going to cower and whimper while he sprayed hot conservative Republican lead in all directions.

Well Mr. Asshole Big Gun Totin' Shooter, I guess you found out different. I'm betting now that your ass is in jail you wish you hadn't listened to all those lies that said liberals and gays were weak and wouldn't defend themselves and their children. I'm willing to go so far as to say that when you get sent to prison for the rest of your life and Big Bubba and or Big Tyrone is anally raping you without the benefit of lubing you up first then boy howdy you'll be wishing you hadn't listened to all that hate filled right wing talk radio that said that burly conservative Republicans with guns could do just whatever they wanted.

Make no mistake people, the man who did this shooting is a conservative Republican or possibly a Libertarian and his motives were to wipe out as many liberals, gays, and gay friendly people as he could. He was no doubt hopped up on right wing hate radio and FOX news. So when they try and convict this piece of crap they ought to be trying Rush Limbaugh, Rupert Murdoch, and all the rest of the right wing hate mongers in the corporate media along with him.

Somehow I doubt the heroes of this shooting will be lionized and feted in the press. The press, with the possible exception of Keith Olbermann, will ignore the fact that the shooter was a product of right wing radio and FOX news and they'll ignore or gloss over the fact that the people who stopped him were liberal gay friendly people. And I'm willing to bet that some right wing religious nut job is going to say that the people in that church got what they deserved because they're liberal and gay loving.

Let this be a lesson to all you people out there who hate liberals, gays, and gay friendly people, if you fuck with us we will defend ourselves, even if you have a gun.

God is a bullet

I've been thinking about the latest school shootings, the ones at NIU, most of today and here is what I've come up with.

Perspective:
It's important to remember that yes these shootings are horrible and horrific and awful for all the people involved, but people in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Palestinian people in Israel get shot and killed like this every day. It's just as horrible and horrific and awful that their lives are cut down by our troops and Blackwater and the Israeli army. A life is a life is a life, no matter if it's an Iraqi or an Afghan or an American college student who gets gunned down. Murder is murder no matter where it happens and for whatever reason. That whole "Thou sahll not kill" extends to everyone, no matter if they are Christian or Muslim or atheist.
Causes:
It looks like the kid who did the shooting had mental problems and he did this when he went off his meds. I have no idea what kind of insurance the kid's family had or what those meds cost him but I'd be willing to be they were expensive and the high cost of those meds played a part in why he stopped taking them.

It's a shame that we don't put a person's mental health on the same plane that we put their physical health because as this case shows, and others like it have shown, it's more important in some cases to make sure the person is mentally healthy rather than physically healthy. We have always placed a stigma on mental problems in this country and we usually ostracize people who seek out help and we do the same when we find out someone has had mental health help in the past, I know for a fact that this is true because I saw how differently people treated my late father and my late sister when they found out they both had been treated for severe mental illness.

Instead of putting more money into helping the mentally ill for the past thirty years our government has done the cowardly thing and cut the funding because who's going to raise a hue and cry about the nut jobs losing a few million dollars in help? They've stolen that money that could have helped that poor kid and they've given it to big business so that they can sell us useless widgets and trinkets.

So while the shooter has to take some blame for what happened, we also need to blame our state and federal governments for cutting the funding for programs that could have saved the shooter and all his victims.

Help:
You know and I know the police in that area did the best job they could have done when they responded to this situation. I admire the police at times like these because they put their lives on the line to help stop more death and destruction.

Now I'm sure some asshat from the National Review or FOX Noise will scream, "Why didn't those college boys stop that kid? Why, hell if I had been there I'd have taken that gun away from that kid and I would have snapped his neck for doing that shit." And of course when they say shit like that it's obvious that they've never been shot at and they have no clue what they're talking about.

The impulse to save one's own life over saving others at a time like that is overwhelming. It's not sad or wrong or bad that you would hide under a desk or jump behind a door and let a shooter shoot and kill others, it's human nature. If a person pulled a gun on you and you had the chance to duck as they shot, you'd do it.

I've been shot at twice in my life. The first time was when I was 14 Cousin Psycho was about 400 yards away from me, I was standing outside the trailer we lived in at the time and he was across a field and on the other side of a creek, when he shot a .22 rifle at me. The bullet hit the side of the trailer and it just missed me by about a foot. I was so shocked that he shot at me that I ducked as soon as it hit. (To show you what a dysfunctional family I was in at the time I was the one who got into trouble in this incident because Aunt Rageaholic and Uncle Adultery, Cousin Psycho's mother and father, praised their son for admitting he shot at me and they got mad at me for being a tattletale when I told them it was their son who shot at me and hit their trailer.)

The second time was when I was in my early twenties and I was still in college. I was out in a seedy nightclub with a friend from college and my Cousin Skank, she is Cousin Psycho's sister. We were all well lit and we were having a grand ol' time. Then out of the blue some guy pulled a pistol from his coat and hit shot the wall near where I was standing. For a split second I thought it was a cap gun but when I saw the hole in the wall I yelled at my friend and my cousin to come with me and I ran out of there as fast as I could. I did not help them follow me, nor did I wrestle the gun from the shooters hand, my self preservation instinct took over and I ran the fuck out. And you'd do the same thing if you were ever shot at.


Solutions:
We're not going to magically become a less violent society because we get sick of these school shootings so what can we do to stop them?

Well, as far as I can tell if we enacted and enforced gun laws like they have in the UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and Italy then we'd have far less incidents like this one at NIU. It's seems pretty cut and dried to me.

We need to close the loophole that lets people buy guns at gun shows with out having o go through a background check. We need to raise taxes on guns and ammo so that they stay out of the hands of people who are unstable or dumb enough to do something like this for whatever twisted glory they may get. And finally we need to stop kowtowing to the NRA and we need to stop letting them write gun legislation.


I think of this song every time there is a shooting. My heart goes out to all the parents and to all the people who've been killed by guns the world over.

Another day, another mass shooting

After this madness went down today, I wonder how long it will take the NRA and all the Reich wingers to say, "The last thing we need in the aftermath of this shooting is to have tougher gun control laws." Or maybe they'll start spewing the old favorite of theirs, "This is all the fault of the godless liberals."

You know kids, I hate to see shit like this happen and I'd hate it even if it happened at Sean Hannity's house when he was hosting a fundraiser for Roody Jools. But I'm positive that some Reichwing nut is going to say he wishes this had happened at a Hillary Clinton rally or an Obama function.
