These happy days are yours and mine

The Queen of Halloween costumes who is a smokin' hottie all year 'round, Miss Alex, who writes the blog Fonzie Sox seems to like the stuff I churn out here every day. Miss Thang likes it so much that she gave me this award last week:
I'm always honored to be honored by my fellow bloggers and it's especially nice to be honored by one so smokin' as she is. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Miss Alex.

The deal is I'm supposed to post the rules about this award but I'm not going to. I may be a stickler when it comes to playing games by the rules but blog memes not so much. However I will go ahead and pass this one to five other bloggers. I hereby award this award to:
  1. Samurai Frog for his incisive and well reasoned political posts and for his posts of hot starlets.
  2. The Washington DC party animal and ape who's blog inspired me to start this blog, Dr. Zaius, gets this award also.
  3. Johnny Yen gets this award for having the good sense to have the Evil Dictator as his son and for marrying Kim.
  4. Bubs gets one for being hillbilly adrift in a world that he never made.
  5. And finally Katie Schwartz gets one because when she's "on," no one makes me laugh harder.

Thanks again Alex for my award!

Question a day

Today's question comes to us from one of my blog heroes, the lovely and talented Johnny Yen. Johnny is part of the axis of Midwest bloggers that may one day rule the earth until the simian takeover. Johnny wants to know: Which game show host was cheesier: John Davidson or Bert Convy?
As a viewer of game shows since I was a young monkling I've seen both of these men at work hosting game shows. Both men started out as actors and both rose to fame as a result of doing parts in popular musicals, Convy was in Cabaret and Davidson was in Oklahoma! However as soon as Convy hit the big time and began hosting game shows he stopped singing professionally. Davidson did not. He continued to sing and record albums and tour in dinner theatre productions of varying quality.
********
Based purely on memory of both of their hosting skills, I'd have to give the edge on the cheesy scale to Davidson. He was enamored with himself and with his dimples and it showed on every episode of every game show he hosted. He exuded smarm. Convy just seemed nice and happy to be there earning a paycheck in a job that gave him a bit of celebrity.

********
Sadly Bert is no longer with us, he died of a brain tumor a few years back. And sadly John Davidson is still singing and playing his guitar. He and his wife, in addition to staying alive, have also founded a game company. Evidently they design games that teach geography, although there is no truth to the rumor that they know where in the world Carmen San Diego is at this moment.

********
Thanks for your question Johnny!

Has there been a question on your mind lately? Well, email it to me and I'll answer it. Send your questions to me at monkeymuck(at)gmail(dot)com. I'll be answering one a day all month long.

It was only a dream

Last week while on vacation I did not do any blogging. But that did not mean I did not think about my blog or dream about it even. Yep, I'm so hooked on blogging now that I dreamt of my blog while on vacation at the seaside, crazy huh?
I dreamt that Kim who writes A Sunny Thought, and who is the wife of Johnny Yen who writes Here Comes Johnny Yen Again, was a giant who was rampaging around a city and stomping on things.

She was destroying everything in sight but when she saw me she stopped and picked me up and stuck me in a pocket on her shirt. I got to hang out with her while she walked around and surveyed all the damage she had wrought and we chatted amiably all the while. After a bit of walking and chatting, I talked her into stopping her rampage and into chilling out.

Then I heard my girlfriends Dad down in the kitchen fixing his morning cereal and I woke up. For the rest of that day I kept an eye out for giant women.

The honors keep rolling in

The lovely and talented Fran of Franiam awarded me one of these. As I have said before I love getting these awards from fellow bloggers because it means that people are not only reading my stuff, they are responding to it. I feel like Fran is my little sister because she started her blog after mine and I was one of the first few bloggers she blog rolled, well Princess Sparkle Pony and Matty Boy were the first but why quibble when it's my feckin' blog. Fran and I have different views of religion but we agree almost 100 % when it comes to politics. Thanks so much Fran for the honor.

I in turn am supposed to award this now to five other bloggers. My choices are:

1) My brother from another mother Samurai Frog. He's not as political as most but when he writes about politics I think he's dead on. He's also the most provocative pop culture observer and reporter ever.

2) Johnny Yen may not write as much about politics and history as he used to but when he does it's a thing of beauty.

3) I think Pam at Musings of Working Mom and I were either related to one another in a past life or we were the same person. I love her take on the dirty deeds going on in DC and in the Middle East.

4) I just started reading Hill Country Gal, I have a prejudice against Texans that I am working through so no wonder I'm late to her anti Bush party. The woman is by turns mean, funny, and dazzling.

5) Angry Ballerina may not think she is a political writer but she in fact is one. All politics are local and the personal is political, as they say. No one writes better rants about addiction, body image, and life in general than the Peeved Terpsichorean girl. She's got a wisdom way beyond her years.

I must be slow

Because I got tagged again! This time one of the other Chicagoland bloggers, Johnny Yen, tagged me with the five random questions meme. Since I'm a Midwesterner by birth and I really like him and his blog I'll go ahead and answer his questions

1. If you could be there to change just one event in history, what would it be?
I know I'm supposed to be all like, "I'd kill Hitler," or "I'd stop the Crusades," or "I'd stop them from making Amityville Horror 2." But honestly I really believe all that stuff from the time travel science fiction movies about not changing world events because of how it will affect the present. But if I had to choose one thing that might actually benefit tons of people, I'd stop the idiot nobleman from Britain who brought rabbits to Australia. He wanted something to hunt but the rabbits bred like crazy, ate like crazy and turned thousands of acres of land into wasteland. Or maybe I'd just stop the British from settling down under, imagine how different Australia and New Zealand would if the French had settled there instead of the Brits.

2. If you could be any actor or actress who ever lived, who would it be, and why?

I'd be Marilyn Monroe. She was one of the most beautiful women ever and certainly the most beautiful actress of her generation. She was smart, funny, and talented. And she slept with some of the most interesting men of the 20th century, such as the Kennedy brothers, Joe DiMaggio, and Arthur Miller. I'd try to handle the whole fame and sleeping with JFK thing better than she did though.

3. What was your favorite Saturday morning cartoon show?

The original Spiderman from the 1960's, you know, the one with that great theme song. The animation is crude by today's standards but it rocked my little world when I was a kid. On the other hand, I hated any show with talking animals because even at a young age I knew that animals could not talk.

4. Beatles or Rolling Stones?

I'm a Rolling Stones guy. But it's very close. In fact, I say I'm 51 % Stones and 49% Beatles.

This was the first Stones album I bought as a teenager. I wore it out I played it so much. I recently bought the CD and I have to guard against playing it too much or my gf will kill me. This is another Stones album I love. I remember vividly buying it at Record Bar (Anyone beside me remember Record Bar?) and getting home and listening to it stoned out of my mind, back then in the late 70's pot was $40 an ounce so I stayed stoned much of the time.
This is my favorite Beatles album. I know it's cheating to name a greatest hits collection your favorite but I don't care, so nah nah nah. I listened to this so many times my freshman year in college that it's no wonder I ended up with a .094 GPA that semester.
5. If you could be any fictional literary figure ever, who would it be?

I'm gonna cheat and name a female and a male.

The female one I'd choose to be is Sissy Hankshaw Gitch from this novel:

Sissy is a hotty with huge thumbs who gets to be a fashion model, an agitator for change, a ranch hand, and an all around great heroine. Most everyone also falls in love with her and she sleeps with her Native American husband, her best buddy on the ranch Miss Bonanza Jellybean, and The Chink. Everyone loves her and she has great adventures. By the way, the movie version sucks hairy balls so avoid it like the plague, the book however is fantastic.

The male character I would like to be is Ron Weasley.

Ron comes from a great family, is best friends with Harry, a funny guy, into sports, a stand up best bud, and he ends up with one of the hottest gals in Hogwarts, Hermione. Ron rocks, even in that sweater.

I'm not gonna tag anyone but if you want to answer Johnny's questions too, feel free. By the way Johnny, excellent questions.
