Sorry, no
I'd like to believe it's real but I'm pretty sure it's bullshit.
See, the first thing is if this linebacker kid really had two amazing gay dads, then they would have taught him to stand up to the bullies who were bullying this openly gay kid before there was any threat of physical violence. Secondly, it's all written in a pretty typeface, if it was real the linebacker kid would not have typed it out on a computer, he would have written it down.
I wish we lived in a world where linebackers with two amazing gay dads did shit like threaten bullies and stick up for openly gay kids, but the sad fact is, most of the time it's linebackers who are doing the bullying. The world of high school sports is one of the most homophobic in the world. Misogynist as well. The worst thing you can call another guy on a football, baseball, or any organized sports team is 'gay.' And it's nothing to jocks to call a guy they want to demean or psyche out a 'girl.' That's the way it is. That's the way it was when I was in high school and I doubt it's changed much.
The above note was written by some well meaning person who wants to help gay kids in their struggle to be who they really are, but unfortunately, it's fiction. Don't believe the hype.

I'll be meme-ing you this Christmas
I start to 'know' that holiday season is coming around my birthday, which is on Oct. 2oth.
2. What do you want for Christmas this year?
On a large scale I want the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan to be over so we can stop pissing money down those rat holes. On a slightly lesser scale I want to win the Mega Millions jackpot so I can become a philanthropist and also take a massive trip to visit all my blog, Facebook, and Twitter pals. On a realistic scale, I just want peace and happiness for everyone I know and love.
3. Do you go all out with decorations?
Some years yes, but this year not so much.
4. What are you doing Christmas Eve?
We go to Sparky's parents house and eat finger food and drink punch. Then we come home and open one present each.
5. What are you doing Christmas Day?
We'll be opening presents and probably calling a few far flung relatives before we head off to Sparky's parents house for Christmas dinner which is usually turkey with all the trimmings. Then later on Christmas night some friends are coming by for drinks, snacks, games, and goofing around. It's a new tradition we started last year.
6. It's Christmas time. What are you reading?
I just picked up British comedienne Jo Brand's novel The More You Ignore Me at the library so I'll start that tonight.
7. Favorite movie to watch during the holidays?
About a Boy. We watch it every year before Christmas, it's become one of our favorite movies ever. We also watch the Christmas episodes of our favorite British comedies, The Vicar of Dibley, Knowing Me Knowing You, Father Ted, Clatterford, Ab Fab, and some of the French & Saunders stuff.
8. Favorite Christmas song?
This one:
9. Favorite holiday drink?
Beer.
10. How is your Christmas shopping going?
It's done. I start looking for stuff for those I buy for a few months before Christmas so that I'm not rushed.
11. If you could spend Christmas Day anywhere else, where would you spend it?
New Zealand.
12. Any holiday traditions?
Spending Christmas eve and having Christmas dinner with Sparky's folks. Opening one present on Christmas eve. Watching our British comedy Christmas specials. Getting together with friends. Having a bunch of people over to our place sometime during the holiday season, lately, we've been having folks over around New Years Day which is nice because by then everyone is sick of family and they would rather spend time with friends.
13. Favorite thing about the holidays?
Getting together and spending time with friends.
Thanks for the tag Little Merry Sunshine!
I tag the following folks:
K-Line
Baygirl 32
Flannery Alden
Intelliwench
John Abuzz
and anyone else who feels like doing this meme.
Happy holidays everyone!

Alan Partridge
3 "Moods" That Describe Me The Best:
Happy
Cynical
Irritated
3 Things I Always Think Of Doing On A Weekend:
Cooking
Watching movies or a British comedy on DVD
Relaxing
3 Things From My Childhood That I Can't Forget:

Meme-ing of me
Hi, my name is: Dr. Monkey/Monkey/Dogg/ Prairie Dogg/ PD/Steve
Never in my life have I been: Outside of North America
The one person who can drive me nuts is: driving an SUV, talking on their cell phone while driving, and has a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on their gas guzzler.
High school: was fun and a great escape from my dreadful cousins and their crazy mother.
When I’m nervous: I repeat things. Repeat things. Repeat things.
The last song I listened to was: something I downloaded from RCRD LBL.
If I were to get married right now my best man/maid of honor: I'm not getting married right now.
My hair is: shortish.
When I was 5: I knew I was funny.
Last Christmas: we got ourselves some British comedies on DVD.
I should be..: a Powerball and or a Mega Millions jackpot winner by now.
When I look down I see: a rug I bought at Big Lots.
The happiest recent event was: the sun coming out and warming things up around here.
If I were a character on ‘Friends’ I’d be: fighting Chandler Bing to the death.
By this time next year: I'd like to have won the Powerball and or Mega Millions jackpot.
My current gripe is: shitty drivers in SUVs who talk on their cell phones and who have Republican stickers on their bumpers.
I have a hard time understanding: most Asian languages.
There’s this girl I know that: likes Pinot Noir.
If I won an award, the first person I would tell would be: whoever was closest to me.
Take my advice: don't ever do business with someone who puts a Jesus fish in their print ad or who feels compelled to tell you they are a Christian within the first three minutes of meeting them for the first time. One should be able to see if a person is a Christian by their actions and not by their loud proclamations.
The thing I want to buy: is a shopping center when I win the Powerball/Mega Millions jackpot. I'll turn it into a center for outsider art.
If you visited the place I was born: You'd see why I don't ever want to live there again.
I plan to visit: France and Italy when I win that jackpot.
If you spent the night at my house: we'd stay up late talking, laughing, and drinking.
I’d stop my wedding if: I was actually getting married.
The world could do without: people who take the metaphor of their religion too literally.
I’d rather lick the belly of a cockroach than: vote Republican.
Most recent thing I’ve bought myself: some pulp paperbacks and a couple of early '60's yearbooks from my college alma mater.
Most recent thing someone else bought me: beer.
My favorite blonde is: me.
My favorite brunette is: Sparky.
My favorite red head is: that chick from Mad Men.
My middle name is: James.
In the morning I: eat oatmeal with banana and brown sugar in it.
The animals I would like to see flying besides birds are: monkeys.
Once, at a bar: I got crazy ass drunk and I got up and danced on the top of a table.
Last night I was: laughing while watching The Mighty Boosh.
There’s this guy I know who: annoys the shit out of me, so I avoid him.
If I was an animal I’d be: A monkey dog hybrid.
A better name for me would be: Tubby.
Tomorrow I am: going to go to our friends Bob and Donna's house for a potluck with some friends. We're taking vegetarian sushi.
Tonight I am: going to relax.
My birthday is: October 20th.

"Holy Jeebus, you mean there's 25 more things about you that you haven't told us yet?"
1) I'm pretty steamed that the candy bar companies came out with exotic versions of standard candy bars after I had to stop eating them because of my heart attack.
2) At a very young age I suspected that I would like drinking alcoholic drinks. It turns out I was right.
3) Although I like to have a drink, I rarely get drunk because I know when to say when.
4) Cities I have lived in include Detroit and Howell Michigan, Bristol TN/VA, Kingsport TN, Johnson City TN, Knoxville TN, and Roanoke VA.
5) I knew Marisa Tomei was going to a big star the first time I ever saw her on TV.
6) I can't stand Julia Roberts, Matthew Broderick, and Sarah Jessica Parker. They all creep me out. If it turns out that I creep them out too, then that's okay by me.
7) I think of my friend Todd, who I met when we auditioned for the improv comedy group in Knoxville, as the brother I never knew I had. I think of my friend Keith, who I met because he read my blog, in the same way. Ditto for Johnny Yen, Bubs, and Samurai Frog.
8) The friends we made through our anti war/pro peace activism are some of the finest people I have ever known and I love hanging out with them.
9) I could eat my body weight in Cadbury Mini Eggs.
10) As I have grown older my taste buds have matured and I now love certain foods that I would have never eaten as a youth.
11) I've seen They Might Be Giants, Tina Turner, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osborne, John Prine, Nancy Griffith, Delbert McClinton, and ZZ Top in concert. And out of those folks, Tina Turner put on the best show, hands down. No contest.
12) Sometimes I knock the small conservative college that I went to but I would not trade my experiences or the friendships I made there for anything.
13) I will never ever watch an episode of any of those Housewive's of... shows on Bravo. Same goes for any incarnation of Survivor, The Amazing Race, and American Idol.
14) I'm still amazed that so many people read my blog. I'm even more amazed that so many of you comment on some of the nonsense that I write.
15) I loved spending time with my maternal grandmother because she was such a good cook. My maternal grandfather scared the heck out of me though.
16) I love to cuss god damn it.
17) I don't believe in gods, in any organized religion, or in that book of fairy tales called the Bible, but I do believe in reincarnation. However, I don't believe there is a celestial being or a moral code that decides how we get reincarnated though. I think that when we die our energy gets put into the next thing that is born, be it a human baby, a puppy, a cat, an insect, a fish, whatever. So basically it's a crap shoot what we come back as in my opinion.
18) I was only in the San Francisco airport for about an hour one day but while I was there I saw some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life.
19) Speaking of beautiful women, the first time I ever saw Sparky I was blown away not just by her looks, but by her acting talent as well. I saw her in a play at a dinner theatre and she was by far the most talented person on that stage that night. And she was always the most talented person in every play I ever saw her do after that as well, and that includes the ones she and I did together too.
20) As long as my hands and feet stay warm I can deal with the cold weather outside.
21) I think that mixed martial arts is the human equivalent of dog fighting and bear baiting. It's the skeeviest thing I ever saw and if I never see a second of it again in my life I'll be happy.
22) The three long term romantic relationships I've had in my life have all been with women who are brunettes.
23) I can tell in an instant if a new TV show is going to suck and be cancelled quickly. Seriously, the networks should hire me to rate their pilots, I could save them a fortune.
24) I'm hoping that the only reason we ever have to move again is because we hit the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot.
25) If I did win either or both of those jackpots, I'd buy a house in Asheville NC, one in Atlantic Beach NC, and one in Vancouver, Canada.

I'm all about equality, so here's 20 women I admire
2. Mindy Kaling-Writer, actress, and producer.
3. Vanessa Williams-She went from being Miss America to being an outcast to being a hit singer and wonderful actress. They tried to ruin her but she had the last laugh.
4. Sonja Henie-Movie star, contemporary art champion, and greatest Olympian ever.
5. Diana Spencer-One time Princess, mother of a future King of England, and activist. RIP.
6. Mother Jones-Labor activist and hell raiser. RIP.
7. Michelle Obama-Wife, mother, and soon to be First Lady.
8. Nancy Lieberman-First woman ever drafted by an NBA team.
9. Julie Taymor-Artist, film and stage director, and writer.
10. J. K. Rowling-Went from being a penniless single mother to being the author of one of the most loved literary franchises in history. Those who malign her can kiss my monkey butt.
11. Jennifer Saunders-Comedian, actress, and writer. She's done more for women in comedy in modern times than anyone.
12. Helen Mirren-Gold standard actress.
13. Frida Kahlo-Painter and visionary. One of the all time great Americans from another American country. RIP.
14. Naomi Klein-Writer, intellectual, and current imaginary celebrity girlfriend. Her book The Shock Doctrine should be required reading for anyone who calls themselves liberal or progressive.
15. Jane Goodall-Anthropologist, activist, writer, and long time inappropriate crush.
16. Grace Lee Boggs-Community organizer and activist.
17. Shirley Chisholm-Congresswoman and one time Presidential candidate. RIP.
18. Tracey Ullman-Comedian, writer, singer, actress, all around great gal. Without Tracey we would never have The Simpsons.
19. Joan Baez-Singer with the voice of an angel. She's an unapologetic activist for all kinds of liberal causes and she's still gettin' it done, hubba hubba.
20. Billie Jean King-Sports legend who inspired a nation of young girls and one impressionable bespectacled young boy/monkey.Friday, January 16, 2009
6 more things
1. I've become a Flickr addict ever since I got a "Pro" account. I love putting the shots I take with my digital camera on there and I love putting all the crazy stuff I scan on there as well.
2. I love all the Flickr friends I've made in the past few months. Folks like Eartha Kitsch, Charm and Poise, Miss Retro Modern, Sparkleneely, and all the other guys and gals rock what with their great photos and comments.
3. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping if I don't get enough exercise during the day, like now for instance, I can't get outside to walk or anything because it too cold, so I'll stay up late scanning stuff, playing cards on Yahoo!, watching TV, or playing The Simpsons or some other inane game on my X Box 360.
4. I remember what a house being bombed sounds like because the police fire bombed a house not too far from us when I was a kid living in Detroit. It sounds kind of like thunder and so sometimes when I hear thunder I wonder if it's thunder or a bomb hitting a house.
5. I might go back to Michigan one day to visit but there is no way in hell I'd ever live back there full time. I like a bit of cold and snow but winter lasts too long up there.
6. I actually like to shop. I like going to the grocery store and to stores like Target, TJ Maxx, Tuesday Morning, and to any thrift or junk store I can find. And I love flea markets more than life itself and that's mainly because I love to look at the people who shop there. It's a great place to spot mullets.
If you just read all that then consider yourself tagged.

Twenty Men I Admire
A. Link back to the blog that tagged you.
B. Link back to the originator of this meme, which is The Dino Lounge.
C. Create your own list of 20 men that you admire and post them on your blog.
D. Tag 5 other people to participate in this meme.
E. If you like, please let The Dino Lounge know that you've participated in this meme so he can check out your posting and comment on it.
Here, in no particular order, are the twenty men I admire most right now:

7. Woody Allen-Comedian, writer, actor, director, and the man who showed glasses wearing nerds like me that if we stuck to being smart and funny the chicks would eventually notice and appreciate us. Thank you Woody.
8. Sam Shepard-Playwright, actor, and all around cool dude.
9. Bill Murray-One of my comedy and acting heroes.
10. John Waters-Film writer, director, and cultural gadfly, he showed me that you can be who you are and still conquer the world, even if it takes the rest of the world years to appreciate what you do.
11. President Jimmy Carter-The most underrated President ever. He saw the troubles we're going through now and he tried to warn us about them 30 years ago. He's set the gold standard for what President's should do with their post Presidential years.
12. Larry David-He never compromised his comedy or comic vision in order to make it. He stayed true to himself and eventually the rest of us caught on. He's a national treasure.
13. Alan Abel-He's the court jester of the media age. Without him the asswipes in charge of the media would take themselves waaaaaay too seriously.
14. Howard Zinn-He's showed us that history is not just the story of the rich and powerful and that the stories of the poor and down trodden matter just as much as the stories about kings, queens, and Presidents.
15. Vaclav Havel-The man who perfected the 'theatre of the absurd' style of play writing and who was a long time political dissident in the country we used to know as Czechoslovakia. He went from being an outlaw to being President after the fall of Communism. He suffered mightily so his countrymen and women wouldn't have to.
16. Hank Aaron-The man who broke Babe Ruth's career home run record and he did it without any performance enhancing drugs. He never hit over 50 homers in season and throughout his career he played with dignity and class. In his chase for the home run crown he put up with abuse and racism the likes of which would have killed a lesser man.
17. Evo Morales-A humble working man and a landless peasant who managed to ride the wave of change and become President of his country.
18. Elvis Costello-Sometimes witty, sometimes angry, always diverse and interesting. He's my favorite singer/songwriter of all time. He's always changing but he's always the most talented guy in the room. With all the CD's, tapes, and albums of his I've bought over the years, the least the guy could do is name a wing in his house after me.
19. Helder Camara-Brazilian priest who said, "When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist." If there had been more guys like him in organized religion then I might still believe in that stone age clap trap. Unfortunately he was one of the exceptions that proved the rule when it came to all organized religions.
20. Walter Cronkite-The last network news anchorman that you could trust.
