These happy days are yours and mine

The Queen of Halloween costumes who is a smokin' hottie all year 'round, Miss Alex, who writes the blog Fonzie Sox seems to like the stuff I churn out here every day. Miss Thang likes it so much that she gave me this award last week:
I'm always honored to be honored by my fellow bloggers and it's especially nice to be honored by one so smokin' as she is. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Miss Alex.

The deal is I'm supposed to post the rules about this award but I'm not going to. I may be a stickler when it comes to playing games by the rules but blog memes not so much. However I will go ahead and pass this one to five other bloggers. I hereby award this award to:
  1. Samurai Frog for his incisive and well reasoned political posts and for his posts of hot starlets.
  2. The Washington DC party animal and ape who's blog inspired me to start this blog, Dr. Zaius, gets this award also.
  3. Johnny Yen gets this award for having the good sense to have the Evil Dictator as his son and for marrying Kim.
  4. Bubs gets one for being hillbilly adrift in a world that he never made.
  5. And finally Katie Schwartz gets one because when she's "on," no one makes me laugh harder.

Thanks again Alex for my award!

Happy new year!

Happy new year to all my Jewish readers! I hope all of you, especially Katie Schwartz, Angry Ballerina, Mathman and family, Amy Guth, Boxer Rebellion, and Tony Kornheiser, have a sweet successful new year.

These wishes of goodwill for my Jewish friends and neighbors do not extend to Traitor Joe Lieberman and his den of turncoats. May the ghosts of Democrats long gone haunt you forever for the way you have turned your back on the Democratic party.

A very Schwartzian meme

My Jewess princess Katie Schwartz came up with a great idea. She's begun a new meme that asks a bunch of questions of Obama supporters and since I am powerless to refuse her anything when it comes to the internets I now give you my answers to her probing questions:

1) What is your name (nickname, whatever you're comfortable sharing), your age (range), gender, occupation, income bracket (range), how you identify (gay/straight/whatever)? Married/Single/Divorced? Kids (how many)?
Name: blog name-Dr. Monkey, real name-Steve
Age-45 and damn proud to say so considering my health history
Gender-Male
I'm a straight white guy who is a member of PFLAG and I'm in a long term monogamous relationship with a woman who I refer to on this blog as Sparky. We have no children of our own but if you have kids and we like them then we think of them as ours, just don't ask us for money to help raise them.

2) What are the most important issues to you in this presidential election and why?
The two biggest issues for me are ending the immoral war in Iraq and getting universal health care for all Americans. The war is sapping our tax dollars faster than a fat kid goes through sheet cake and it makes no sense to me that we can waste billions of dollars on a war for ExxonMobil and Shell oil but we have no money for health care for all Americans. All I am asking for in the health care area is that we get the same health care that Bush McCain and Dick Cheney have had all their public lives. All I want in the war of terror area is for us to get out of Iraq this second and to let a pan-Arabic force take over in Iraq and Afghanistan.

3) Why do you think voters should vote for Obama/Biden, what differentiates this ticket from McCain/Palin?
I think people should vote for Obama/Biden if they want to get out of the current mess that 30 years of conservative politics has drug us into. What makes them different from Bush McCain/Palin is that they want us out of Iraq, want a more equitable health system for all of us, and they believe in using the power of the federal government to help the poor, the downtrodden, the working class, and the middle class. Obama/Biden are not perfect and they'll still kowtow too much to corporations for my taste and they'll keep throwing money down the rathole known as the Pentagon but they are a far sight better than continuing the failed conservative policies of Bush McCain/Palin.

4) If McCain/Palin wins this election, where do you see our country going in the next four years?
If they win then I see this country not moving forward at all. I see it staying in this same awful place where the rich keep getting more obscenely rich, the wars drag on forever because heaven knows that whatever "gains" we make over there will be "fragile" and we'll have to stay to protect them. I see more deregulation that will cost more lives, line the pockets of the super rich, and further damage our nation and our economy. I see people staying fearful and afraid to speak out because dissent will not be tolerated by a President with a hair trigger temper who has shown he'll say or do anything to stay in power. I see gays, lesbians, women, and minorities losing many gains they have fought for over the past 50 years. I see science and reason mocked and shunted aside in favor of the radical right wing religious agenda. I see freedom of choice being taken away from women and yet more voter caging. I see a version of America that is my worst nightmare.

5) Economically, where do you think this country is today and how do you think Obama/Biden can make a positive impact?
As the latest investment bank failure as shown us, the economy of this country is in the toilet. We've let them deregulate things too far and we're sliding backwards to the era just before the Great Depression. The gap between the haves and the have nots is widening every day and it's going to get worse under Bush McCain/Palin because they want to make more tax cuts to businesses and give their rich friends bigger tax cuts while we work harder and harder for what little we managed to get.

History has shown time and time again that the economy does better under Democrats than it does under Republicans and this is because more people share in the prosperity. Obama/Biden can make a positive impact by taxing the rich more, ending the Bush tax cuts, taxing companies that outsource jobs, and providing tax breaks and incentives to people and companies that provide "green" jobs that will aid us in becoming self sustaining energy wise. And by ending the senseless immoral war we can redirect that money to go to fixing our crumbling infrastructure that Bush McCain/Palin have ignored for years.

6) In the past 8-years, how do you think this country has changed under the Bush regime? Have you been affected by these changes? If so, in what ways?
Too many changes to go into now but I'll highlight the biggest ones:

  • loss of civil liberties

  • the growth of domestic spying

  • yet more insane privatization of essential governmental services

When our own government can call anyone they please an "enemy combatant" and thereby imprison us indefinitely and take away all our constitutional rights then we're all affected by the changes Bush hath wrought.

7) I have read that Palin is considered the new voice of feminism, which is offensive in my opinion. Of equal concern are her views on abortion and the removal of books from libraries. I'd like to know what you think about all of that and how you feel about McCain choosing Palin as a running mate. And what kind of message you think that sends to women?
The message that women should get from the cynical politically calculating choice of Sarah Palin as Bush McCain's Veep is that you are stupid. They obviously think that a woman who is the polar opposite of Hillary Clinton is as qualified as Hillary is and that you ladies should vote for him because his running mate has a vagina.

The message I get from his choice of an inexperienced evangelical female is that the old man will do anything to be elected. He picked her to satisfy the religious right, who he once scorned. As much as they bray and brag about her limited experience she is the least qualified person to be Vice President since Dan Quayle. My worries about the leadership of Bush jr and Bush McCain pale in comparison to the worries I have about an anti choice, anti science, religious nut bag like her.

I tag Little Merry Sunshine, Liberality, Helenwheels, and Diva Jood to do this meme if they so choose because I'd like to see their answers to these great questions from the great Katie Schwartz.

Monkey in the middle

My Jewess Princess Katie tagged me with the Middle Name Meme. The deal is you have to give a different fact about your self starting with the letters of your middle name. Here goes:
J- My middle name is James. My Mom saddled me with two Biblical names. I was named after the first christian martyr and the brother of Jesus. Religion has been plaguing me since the day I was freakin' born.
A- After making a .075 GPA in my first semester in college due to excessive partying, I made three A's and two B's the next semester.
M- One of my favorite comic book series ever was the early 70's version of Manhunter from DC comics. It was self contained in about 6 or so issues and the art and story line blew my young mind. It was where I first learned the word "Gotterdammerung." I didn't understand what it meant but it sounded so cool, since it had "damm" in it I thought it was a swear word so I used it as such. When I found out what it really meant, it means 'twilight of the gods,' I thought it was an even cooler word than before.
E- I hate how elephants have become the symbol of the Republican party. The more we learn about these incredible animals the less they seem like the right animal to represent such greedy arrogant fuckers. I think a more appropriate animal for them to use as the symbol of their party would be a pig or maybe a weasel.
S- Salem Lights was the first brand of cigarettes that I smoked. I soon grew to hate menthols so I quit smoking them and I switched to Vantage, then Marlboros and finally I settled on Marlboro Lights. I smoked cigarettes for 24 years and I smoked the other stuff for almost as long, but now I smoke neither.

I haven't tagged anyone in a while so I'll tag MNMom, her sister Cheesecake Maven, and Suzy.

I regret to inform you...

...that I've been tagged by Katie Schwatrz. With this tag I am supposed to tell you about 5 things I regret and 5 things I don't regret. Here goes:

1) I regret not doing better in college.
2) I regret smoking as much pot as I did when I was younger.
3) I regret that I did not move to NY to pursue an acting career when I was in my early 20's.
4) I regret I never learned to play a musical instrument.
5) I regret the times I did not speak out against stupidity and injustice when I had the chance.

Wait! I just remembered what Edith Piaf said, "Non, je ne regrette rien." (No, I regret nothing.)

1) I don't regret acting stupid or cracking stupid jokes. Laughter is something the world needs more of and I'm glad I can make people laugh. If folks are laughing then they're not fighting or arguing.
2) I don't regret raising hell in college. The school I went to had been taken over by conservative religious nut bags who wanted everyone to be like Stepford children. I'm damn glad I never bought into their brand of twisted Christianity.
3) I don't regret not seeing most of my family anymore. It took me a long time to realize that most of the people on my father's side of my family are whack jobs who stress me out. I miss seeing my cousin's offspring but if they ever want to see me they know where I live.
4) I don't regret wearing my politics on my sleeve and on the back of my truck. It's a pretty conservative area of TN where I live but as long as I live here I'll be letting others know that I am not a right winger.
5) I don't regret stiffing the credit card companies after my quadruple bypass.

I regret that I'm not going to tag anyone but if you'd like to do this then go ahead.

Stars in my eyes

My blog bud from across the pond PJ saw fit to bestow another award on me. She named me one of her Blog Stars. How sweet is she? She seems to like my naughty jokes, my insane posts, and my blog as a whole, I wonder how she feels about the anus as a hole though. I've been a long time fan of hers and I could not be more grateful for this honor, it means alot to me especially since it comes from someone who I like so much. PJ, if you ever get to my part of TN, then you better come over for supper so I can cook for you.

The nice part of these blog awards is I get to now pass this award on to five others who I feel are my blog stars. Ready? Ok then, here we go:

1) Beth at Cup of Coffey gets one for her concert reviews, for her Friday mix tapes, and for her comments. No one rocks it like Beth rocks it.

2) Katie "Jewgirl" Schwartz gets one for being the funniest, Jewiest, craziest gal on the planet. Her menses reports crack me up and if I ever need a laugh I just click on her vagina poll from this past summer, I howl every time I read it.

3) Angry Ballernia gets one for being such an angry poignant smart funny highly entertaining twentysomething gal. On her off days she's better than most of us but don't tell her I said that or it may go to her head.

4) My little blog sister Fran of FranIAm gets one for being such a blog force for good. In a few short months Fran has taken the blog world by storm by being nice, compassionate, and so darn good that it makes me feel bad that I'm such an evil cranky bastard monkey sometimes. She's inspired an army of followers and readers and I hope she'll lead them well.

5) If Fran is my little blog sister then D Cup is my female blog alter ego, so she gets my final Blog Star award for writing such great political posts, for sharing such funny and touching stories about her family, and for just being a stand up chick in a world gone terribly wrong. I confess to checking her blog several times daily hoping that she'll post new content, what can I say, I go for the boobs but I stay for the commentary. You had me a double D, madam, you had me at double D.

*******
I hope these women will pass this along to others and not let it sit and get all moldy. All six of you ladies rock my blog world and I'm ever so glad that you do what you do.

My new running mate has been chosen!

It's been crazy here at el Casa de Monkey this weekend! Samurai Frog and I have been drinking and sunbathing like crazy, oops I mean we've been working our asses off interviewing potential running mates for my campaign!

After interviewing many many many fine patriotic Americans, though don't bother putting that damn Bennifer on that list, they were total assholes!, we whittled the list down to a select few after we decided that my running mate must be female and be able to deliver segments of the voting population that I would have trouble reaching otherwise. We also decided that since Evil Spock would deliver us the all important Midwestern states of Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio, and that since I would deliver electoral vote rich states in the Northeast and the South, that we need a female from out west to balance the inaugural Monkey Party ticket.

High on our list was the lovely Scottish comedienne and actress Doon Mackichan. Ms. Mackichan is perhaps best known as one of the masterminds behind the hit British comedy series Smack the Pony! and for her funny as hell guest appearances in the BBC comedy Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge. Samurai Frog was ready to anoint Ms. Mackichan my running mate until I pointed out that she was a Scottish national and not from the west coast. He reluctantly agreed with me.

The lovely and talented Doon Mackichan

Next on our list was Megan who writes the fantastically funny blog I'm Quietly Judging You . I was impressed by her grasp of the issues, her positions on the issues, and by her ability to drink copious amounts of alcohol without passing out. She and I drank and drank and drank, oops I mean talked for hours. By the end of my interview with her I was so drunk that I named her my running mate.

Megan celebrates being named my Vice Presidential running mate.

Unfortunately when I sobered up Samurai Frog reminded me that Megan lives in New York City. With a heavy heart and a throbbing head I informed Megan that she was out as my Veep but she was still in my cabinet when I get elected. She was of course unhappy about my decision and as a result she tried to stab me with the shiv she keeps in her purse. But in the end she only left me with a hangover and a small flesh wound. No worries though Megan, we still love you here at Monkerstein 2008 HQ!

We checked our list after they hauled Megan off to jail and we saw that all that remained on it were Jewish women. Since my love for females of the "tribe" is well known I eagerly awaited our last few interviews.

First up was La Streisand. She gave a great interview but she lost us when she said that she would not wear a bra on the campaign trail. We begged her to reconsider but she said that James Brolin wanted to have unfettered access to her taa taa's at all times. So we were forced to cross her off our list.

Next up was Katie Schwartz, she of the All the Way from Oy to Vey blog fame. She fit the bill perfectly, and she gave one hell of an interview. But alas we decided that she was too damn funny to be a serious contender and that America needed her more as a whip smart funny as hell blogger than it did as my Veep.Funny thing about Katie, she has this amazing British accent, she smells really really nice, and she claims to have been in all sorts of movies. She's crazy that one!

Next on our list was the tremendously talented Amy Guth, author of books, blogs, and other stuff. When Amy walked into the interview chamber we knew right off that she was not going to make the cut, not because she was not super smart, she is, and not because she couldn't do the job, she could, but because she was just too damn cute. We decided that if she was my running mate then people would pay no attention me and instead they would focus on the earth shattering cuteness of Amy. I must admit that I would fall into that category as well.

I was about to throw in the towel and concede defeat when Samurai Frog told me that there was one candidate left. A secret candidate that he had invited without my knowledge. I looked outside and there she was on the swing.

Laurie David. Laurie. Freaking. David.

The genius of Samurai Frog hit me like a ton of bricks, his plan all along had been to show me how no one could measure up against the soon to be divorced Laurie David. She is smart, is well known, is a crusader for the environment, is sexy as all get out (just like me I might add), is a Jewish female who lives out west, and is as passionate about saving this country as I am. Samurai Frog went out to ask her if she would be so kind as to come inside.

She refused. She said if I wanted to talk to her I could do it outside in the sunshine and fresh air, I leapt out the window and bounded over to her. Breathlessly I asked if she was familiar with my campaign and my positions on the issues. She smiled and said of course she was. I got down on one simian knee and I asked, "Will you be my running mate?"

She wiped a tear from her eye and said, "Yes! Yes! One thousand times yes!"

After a group hug that included Sheryl Crow,

Laurie and I went inside to change clothes.

We then dashed off to a Ralph Lauren party where I made the announcement to all her Hollywood pals. They were super psyched!

And so America, with the Monkey Party ticket complete, we now embark on our mission to restore America to it's former greatness. Join with me and Laurie David in saving our country and our planet.

Monkerstein/David in 2008!
