Another day, another mass shooting

After this madness went down today, I wonder how long it will take the NRA and all the Reich wingers to say, "The last thing we need in the aftermath of this shooting is to have tougher gun control laws." Or maybe they'll start spewing the old favorite of theirs, "This is all the fault of the godless liberals."

You know kids, I hate to see shit like this happen and I'd hate it even if it happened at Sean Hannity's house when he was hosting a fundraiser for Roody Jools. But I'm positive that some Reichwing nut is going to say he wishes this had happened at a Hillary Clinton rally or an Obama function.

They're also probably quite disappointed that the dude has a very white name.

Oh, and if all the god-fearing consumers had been packing heat, no one but the gunman would've died.

Sadly- we must remember that not that long after Columbine the NRA went ahead with their annual meeting in Denver. Despite many loud protests.

This country and its love afair with guns will end poorly.

The righties will have less and less to say as these shootings happen more and more with assault-type weapons. Its not just some guy who went nuts with his own legally owned .38.(which is horrible enough-I will not minimize that!)But this is another example of guns that are meant for the military being used for random shootings in public places.
How can the NRA defend people obtaining these types of weapons?

I'm betting with the relaxing the concealed weapon laws, so everyone could just open fire. That seems like their usual response.

Tengrain

I'll probably part ways with most of our collected readers here by saying I don't think any new gun control legislation would do much good in cases like this.

Usually it comes down to a failure in the mental health system in identifying/treating/confining a dangerously mentally ill person, or a failure in the criminal justice system in successfully prosecuting/convicting/locking up a bad guy who's violent.

Every time there's a horrible incident like this there's a rush to try and respond with new gun control legislation, when the fact is that we've got tons of gun laws already on the books which are not effectively enforced.

Then again, I am just a gun nut.

As soon as I heard about this event, I remembers the lyrics of Ani DiFranco's To the Teeth:
Every year now, like Christmas,
Some boy gets the milk-fed suburban blues,
Reaches for the available arsenal,
And saunters off to make the news."

I don't know if more laws are required, but I do think that Chris Rock had a great idea: make each bullet cost $5000. Buy or steal all the guns you want, but it's gonna cost you 5-large to put a bullet in somebody.

I think Chris Rock is right too.

Randal-"More guns is the solution." I love that reich wing joke.

Dcap-And she wonders why no one outside of the media takes her nutty ass seriously.

Fran-Those NRA bastards are shameless.

Micgar-They'd defend Hitler if he had a gun.

Tengrain-Yep, more weapons is the key. (He said ironically.)

Bubs-I can see your point and I can appreciate your position, just as you can mine. We can disagree about somethings and still be friends, after all us shiftless hillbillies must stick together, even if one of us did run off to Chicago and become a cop. :)

Missy-Mine too, so many familes shattered, so many lives altered for nothing.

Dguz-You and Chris Rock may be right.
