"Holy Jeebus, you mean there's 25 more things about you that you haven't told us yet?"
1) I'm pretty steamed that the candy bar companies came out with exotic versions of standard candy bars after I had to stop eating them because of my heart attack.
2) At a very young age I suspected that I would like drinking alcoholic drinks. It turns out I was right.
3) Although I like to have a drink, I rarely get drunk because I know when to say when.
4) Cities I have lived in include Detroit and Howell Michigan, Bristol TN/VA, Kingsport TN, Johnson City TN, Knoxville TN, and Roanoke VA.
5) I knew Marisa Tomei was going to a big star the first time I ever saw her on TV.
6) I can't stand Julia Roberts, Matthew Broderick, and Sarah Jessica Parker. They all creep me out. If it turns out that I creep them out too, then that's okay by me.
7) I think of my friend Todd, who I met when we auditioned for the improv comedy group in Knoxville, as the brother I never knew I had. I think of my friend Keith, who I met because he read my blog, in the same way. Ditto for Johnny Yen, Bubs, and Samurai Frog.
8) The friends we made through our anti war/pro peace activism are some of the finest people I have ever known and I love hanging out with them.
9) I could eat my body weight in Cadbury Mini Eggs.
10) As I have grown older my taste buds have matured and I now love certain foods that I would have never eaten as a youth.
11) I've seen They Might Be Giants, Tina Turner, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osborne, John Prine, Nancy Griffith, Delbert McClinton, and ZZ Top in concert. And out of those folks, Tina Turner put on the best show, hands down. No contest.
12) Sometimes I knock the small conservative college that I went to but I would not trade my experiences or the friendships I made there for anything.
13) I will never ever watch an episode of any of those Housewive's of... shows on Bravo. Same goes for any incarnation of Survivor, The Amazing Race, and American Idol.
14) I'm still amazed that so many people read my blog. I'm even more amazed that so many of you comment on some of the nonsense that I write.
15) I loved spending time with my maternal grandmother because she was such a good cook. My maternal grandfather scared the heck out of me though.
16) I love to cuss god damn it.
17) I don't believe in gods, in any organized religion, or in that book of fairy tales called the Bible, but I do believe in reincarnation. However, I don't believe there is a celestial being or a moral code that decides how we get reincarnated though. I think that when we die our energy gets put into the next thing that is born, be it a human baby, a puppy, a cat, an insect, a fish, whatever. So basically it's a crap shoot what we come back as in my opinion.
18) I was only in the San Francisco airport for about an hour one day but while I was there I saw some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life.
19) Speaking of beautiful women, the first time I ever saw Sparky I was blown away not just by her looks, but by her acting talent as well. I saw her in a play at a dinner theatre and she was by far the most talented person on that stage that night. And she was always the most talented person in every play I ever saw her do after that as well, and that includes the ones she and I did together too.
20) As long as my hands and feet stay warm I can deal with the cold weather outside.
21) I think that mixed martial arts is the human equivalent of dog fighting and bear baiting. It's the skeeviest thing I ever saw and if I never see a second of it again in my life I'll be happy.
22) The three long term romantic relationships I've had in my life have all been with women who are brunettes.
23) I can tell in an instant if a new TV show is going to suck and be cancelled quickly. Seriously, the networks should hire me to rate their pilots, I could save them a fortune.
24) I'm hoping that the only reason we ever have to move again is because we hit the Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot.
25) If I did win either or both of those jackpots, I'd buy a house in Asheville NC, one in Atlantic Beach NC, and one in Vancouver, Canada.

6 more things
1. I've become a Flickr addict ever since I got a "Pro" account. I love putting the shots I take with my digital camera on there and I love putting all the crazy stuff I scan on there as well.
2. I love all the Flickr friends I've made in the past few months. Folks like Eartha Kitsch, Charm and Poise, Miss Retro Modern, Sparkleneely, and all the other guys and gals rock what with their great photos and comments.
3. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping if I don't get enough exercise during the day, like now for instance, I can't get outside to walk or anything because it too cold, so I'll stay up late scanning stuff, playing cards on Yahoo!, watching TV, or playing The Simpsons or some other inane game on my X Box 360.
4. I remember what a house being bombed sounds like because the police fire bombed a house not too far from us when I was a kid living in Detroit. It sounds kind of like thunder and so sometimes when I hear thunder I wonder if it's thunder or a bomb hitting a house.
5. I might go back to Michigan one day to visit but there is no way in hell I'd ever live back there full time. I like a bit of cold and snow but winter lasts too long up there.
6. I actually like to shop. I like going to the grocery store and to stores like Target, TJ Maxx, Tuesday Morning, and to any thrift or junk store I can find. And I love flea markets more than life itself and that's mainly because I love to look at the people who shop there. It's a great place to spot mullets.
If you just read all that then consider yourself tagged.

16 Things You May Not Have Known About Me
1) When I was a little boy I loved the TV show The Waltons. The reason I loved it so much was because I had the hots for Miss Michael Learned. Here's a shot of her at some awards show in the early '70's:

Hubba hubba, I wanted her even before I knew what to do if I ever got her.
2) Once when I was very young I found out my Dad was leaving us to go back in the mental hospital. I got mad at him for going and to express my anger I peed on one of his in progress oil paintings.
3) My crazy aunt used to insist that anyone could carry a tune and sing well, even me, so she kept making me join the kid's choir in which ever church we were in at the time. I knew damn well I couldn't sing on key to save my life and I hated being in choir. I finally cured her of it by singing as loud as I could when we sang in front of the whole church. After people heard how bad sounded she got embarrassed and yanked me out of the kid's choir.
4) No priest ever molested me when I was a Roman Catholic but several nuns hit me pretty damn hard when I was in St. Monica's Catholic School.
5) I got paddled once in elementary school for running down the hall. The guy who paddled me was a one time boxer who had to cut his boxing career short when he got polio. The son of a bitch took his misery and anger out on defenseless kids and if I ever come across him again I might just beat him with a big fucking wooden paddle until he can't hardly sit down again.
6) One of the biggest highs I ever got was when I made the whole class in 8th grade crack up. I forgot what I said but I'll never forget the feeling of knowing that I could make a whole room full of people laugh their asses off.
7) The first three or four times I smoked pot I did not get high. I almost didn't do it again after the fourth time because I thought I was immune.
8) When I was in college a girl took me home on spring break one year but I was too shy to make a pass at her.
9) I did two musicals in college even though I can't sing. The director taught me to talk in time with the music and it worked.
10) I began my working life at the age of 13. My crazy aunt insisted we get jobs so that would could help pay for "room and board." I found out years later that while we were working and paying for our room and board she was also getting money from the state for being a foster parent to me and my brothers and sister.
11) I was supposed to go into the Air Force right out of high school but I cut my arm pretty bad in an accident and they would not take me. It's a good thing they didn't because I found out pretty quick that I hated taking orders from people who I think are less intelligent than me.
12) I loved my apartment and neighborhood in Roanoke, VA with a white hot burning passion. I hated to leave it but I had to move because I couldn't afford it after being laid off from the pipe factory where I had been working. Some day I'll write about that apartment and my old neighborhood but I know whatever words I use will not be able to convey what that place meant to me then.
13) The two months I lived in Cairo (pronounced Kay-ro) GA were the worst two months of my life.
14) I think movie Once Were Warriors is one of the most underrated films ever made.
15) I did a TV commercial for a woman's clothing store that aired in parts of Louisiana. A friend of mine in Knoxville wrote and shot it. The premise was that a chick walks by me as I am playing football with some friends. She is dressed in clothes she bought at the store in Louisiana and she looks so good that I stare at her instead of catching the ball. The ball then hits me in the head and and after I fall she helps me up. I'm pretty sure it's in the TV Commercial Hall of Fame now.
16) I used to write radio commercials for an ad agency that did all the radio spots for Hooters. I would always write three or four different versions of whatever ad they asked me to work on and I would always include a Monty Python-esque medieval themed version but they never would use them. They loved the psychiatrist/patient and auto mechanic/customer themed ads that I'd write. Go figure.
Now, wasn't that fun and painless? I tag every one who reads this except Beth Coffey and Delia Guzman because they just did it. And if you don't want to do it either then that's okay too.

Takin' care of tag business
Thursday, May 1, 2008
Oh goody, here's another meme where you learn more about me
A) The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
B) Each player answers the questions about himself or herself.
C) At the end of the post, the player then tags five people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
1) Ten years ago I was:
Still driving about 1000 miles a month while working for Myers Tire Supply. Still smoking a pack and a half a cigarettes a day. Still eating a high fat diet. Had just moved back to Johnson City from Knoxville, TN.
2) Five things on today's to do list: 1. Make calls about stuff I said I was going to call about. 2. Await and answer call from people we're expecting a call from. 3. Do some laundry. 4. Write for this blog and read others blogs. 5. Walk.
3) Things I do if I were a billionaire: Start a chain of energy efficient environmentally sustainable organic farms. Start a chain of companies dedicated to working on converting businesses and homes to solar power. Give money to find a cure for HIV/AIDS. Start a charitable foundation that would give money to various charities and fund scholarships for kids who would get left behind from attending college in today's racist and classist system. Do a shitload of international travel. Buy a beach house.
4) Three bad habits: 1. Quick temper. 2. Too impatient. 3. Driving too fast.
5) Five places I've lived: Detroit MI, Jonesville VA, Roanoke VA, Cairo GA, Knoxville TN.
6) Five jobs I've had in my life: groundskeeper, dishwasher, sales rep, swimming pool attendant, actor.
Okay, that wasn't so bad was it? Now I tag the following people: Little Merry Sunshine, We Move to Canada, Bridget Jones, Wandering Coyote, and Samurai Frog. If any of you folks don't do tags, then that's fine, no harm no foul, I'll still love you and read you anyway.

6 more things about me

You can't stop me, you can only hope to contain me
It seems that the stress test I had a few weeks ago showed that I have a blockage in another artery. My cardiologist called me with that cheery news first thing last Monday morning, what a way to start the week! He told me that he wants to give me a heart cath, which is a procedure where they stick a ballon up the artery and inflate it a bit in an effort to dislodge the blockage. If the ballon doesn't work then they'll have to stick one of these in that artery:

I had one put in the night I had my heart attack so I know what to expect with this. If they have to put the stent in me then I have to stay over night, if not then I'll get to come home later this evening. Keep your fingers crossed the balloon does the job so I don't have to spend the night in Baptist Hospital.
It's not that I don't like Baptist Hospital, it's just that I don't like hospital stays in general. They're expensive and usually stressful. On the bright side, if I do have to stay over night you'll get to read all about it later. And since I'm taking my camera there will be pictures as well.
Have a great day kids and remember I love most each and every one of you. Thanks for stoppng by and making this whole blogging thingy so much fun. I'll be back, odds willing, sometime tomorrow.
Be sweet!

True Confessions
1) I hated Buffy the TV series but I loved loved loved Buffy the movie.

3) I'll never see anything Julia Roberts is in, she gives me the creeps with her big ol' horse face and that braying laugh.
4) I was always lukewarm on The X Files.
5) I try my best to avoid anything that has an alum of Full House in it.
6) I don't mind celebs who come out with political views but I hate the ones who come out with certain views and then try to recant later when it's not cool to be a certain thing anymore, I'm looking at you Bruce Willis and your statement where you said "Why does everybody think I'm a Republican?" Well for one thing Bruce you went to all those Republican conventions and shit.
7) I'm glad Jewel is not huge any more. If I had to hear her singing one more earnest folky song I was prepared to do whatever it took to silence her.
8) I'm a pill to live with sometimes.
9) I have never ever watched an episode of American Idol and I never ever will.
10) I have an X Box but I only have a few games, mostly sports games. I'm not a fan of fighting games or the first person shooter games.
Ok, that's all for now.

This is the last time I am doing this meme, I swear
2) This was one of the first albums I ever owned:
Having trouble imagining why a horny teen age boy would own a Linda Ronstadt album? Maybe this will help clear it up for you:

I loved her singing but I also appreciated her other "charms" as well. Hubba hubba.Thursday, December 13, 2007
Tagged by Austin's Finest
Blueberry tagged me with the 5 Little Known Facts About Me meme and because I like her so much I'll do it gladly.1) I have a little cousin who's father is a Mexican citizen, so I guess Michelle Malkin and the rest of the racist anti immigration people now have another reason to hate me. My little cousin is a beautiful little girl named Julia, but everyone calls her Jools. The one time Jools visited us at our house she was about 3 or 4 and she came running through our condo and she sailed off the step that leads down into our sunken living room. She fell and hit her little head on the carpeted floor. After she hit the floor she raised her head up, looked around, and she stared laughing.
2) I also have an African American cousin. My hick cousin Linda, who is more like Jamie Pressley's character on My Name is Earl than you'll ever know, got pregnant with a black guy in order to get discharged from the Army in the late 1980's. She had a daughter she named Stephanie. When I first met Stephanie she was around 9 or 10 and I swear she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Alas, she learned all her mother's bad habits and she got pregnant when she was a teenager.
3) I nearly got a Bible and Religion minor in college. We had to take 12 hours of Bible and religion classes (that's four classes) in order to graduate, so I figured why not just take a few more classes and get a freakin' minor in it. But after I signed to get my minor in it I found out I'd have to take an additional 18 hours (6 more classes), so I dropped it just as quickly as I signed up.
4) I hated being talked down to when I was a kid. I wanted to kick every adult in the shin who talked to me like I was some kind of stupid little twerp when I was younger and that went double for people in the medical field. I had gotten a hernia when I was 15 that had to be removed surgically. One morning after the operation a nurse asked me if I had made "wee wee" yet. I told her, "No, however I did urinate most heartily."
5) I worked as a telemarketer not once but twice when I was in college. The first phone job I had, I sold ads for the Fraternal Order of Police magazine and we worked out of a motel room. The second phone sales job I had was appointment setting for funeral home sales people. I hated both jobs but for some reason I sold more ads than anybody else and I also set more appointments than anyone else.
I tag Distributor Cap, Bubs, Enriched Geranium, and Karen.

I did not learn to actually cook proper food until I met my girlfriend Sparky. She taught me to cook with fresh ingredients and to use fresh green veggies in almost every meal.6) I was an extra on an America's Most Wanted re-enactment about a doctor who sexually abused some his female patients. The irony of it was that this same doctor had treated a person who was related to me by marriage. The doctor in question's name was Mohammed Ali and he fled to his home country of Egypt after he was arraigned. Some bounty hunters tracked him down in Cairo and they brought him back to the USA to face justice. I think he ended up doing ten years in prison and of course he lost his medical license.
actually got published by a teeny tiny publisher here in Tennessee. I sold about 150 copies of it and for a time it was on Amazon.com. The publisher was a bit of a dick who stopped publishing fiction and he took down his web page without telling me. He did all that while I was recovering from my heart attack. He has since stopped taking emails from me so I gave away the last few copies of the book I had. I did keep one copy and I may scan it soon and offer it for sale as a PDF file.
