 A local convenience store chain is raising money for St. Jude's Hospital.  For a donation, typically a dollar, you get to put your name or a message on a little card that they then hang up.

It's true, science did help save that kid.  After all if prayer worked, then they'd have taken that kid to a church or a parsonage.  That shit doesn't work, science and medicine do .

Keeping score

The archdiocese of Atlanta says they can no longer contribute to a breast cancer charity because said charity gives money to Planned Parenthood.  PP, they maintain, is evil because abortion is among it's many services to women.  Never mind that it's a small part and what Planned Parenthood does is provide medical care to low income and working women, never mind that PP provides cancer screenings that save many lives every year, never mind that in some areas, a PP clinic is all some women have access to, they're evil in the eyes of the Roman Catholic church.

Here's what an organization that's really evil does:

• Cover up the world wide rape and abuse of children.
• Look the other way during the holocaust.
• Hinder the march of science and medicine because it conflicts with the stories told by the church.
• Take money from the poor, the destitute, the working poor, and use that money to amass a treasury that's full of art, antiques, gold, silver, and jewels.
• Advocate for the second class status of gays, Jews, and any other group they don't like.
• Keep women oppressed.
• Use the threat of eternal damnation to keep people in line and under their control.

Yes, that Roman Catholic church did and still does all those things.  If you're a member of that religion, then you're not only an idiot who's been fleeced for years, you're an accessory to all their crimes.  Your money, your time, your work for them helps keep this world divided and at war.  Your cash and prayers have helped countless priests get away with rape and abuse.  Your donations and support help deny gay folks equality.  So, congrats on all that you suckers,  and now, congrats on sentencing more women to death and helping to deny them basic medical care.  Well done religious people, well done indeed. 

As usual, and as history has shown us, humans will advance not because of people like the Roman Catholics, we'll advance in spite of them and their backward idiotic religion.

Trolling for right wing Jesus

I had a right wing Christian troll for a day or two this week. He took offense that I didn't believe in his fairy tale religion and that I didn't subscribe to the 'fuck the poor' economic model they love so much. He lectured me about 'liberal economics' and how atheists are selfish and how only Christians are good.

His main tactic was to tell me to stop my ranting and look at the facts. Then when I showed him facts to back up my points, he said those weren't the real facts. Apparently, only right wing supply side Jesus worshipers own the facts.

I had to ban him because he was in violation of my comment policy. His main violation was leaving too many comments on one post. His next violation was he was arguing with other commenters. And his third violation was his proselytizing. Disagreement with me is fine, just don't be a dick about it, don't try to convert me, don't be a dick to my other commenters, and don't leave more than one disagreement comment on a single post.

Freedom of speech means you can say what you like, it doesn't mean I have to listen to it and or give you a platform on my blog to spout your religious and or political views. You can say what you like any where you like and I can choose to ignore you any time I like.

Religious round up

• Christian minister Terry Jones wants to go stand outside of the largest mosque in the USA, which is in Dearborn, MI, and protest Islam on Good Friday. He claims he doesn't want violence but he and his followers, just simple God fearing Christians, will be armed and ready for any violence that might come down. His actions don't match his intent or his words. If he didn't want violence, or attention from the media, then he'd stay at home and protest Islam inside his church. To say he's bringing guns but that he doesn't want violence is like saying you don't want to suck cock while kneeling with your mouth open at a glory hole.
  
• Catholic nut, and media attention whore (notice a pattern here?), Bill Donahue claims that the sex scandals in his church aren't due to pedophile priests. And he states that since some of the victims were teenagers that means that the priests who raped them weren't pedophiles at all, they were just gay and so the real problem is the gays in his church. The mind reels when you consider that he's saying the priests and the church aren't at fault in the child rape scandals, it's the fault of those little kids with 'purty' mouths and come hither asses that are the cause of all the rapes. You just know that sooner or later Donahue is going to get busted chugging cock, fondling a boy, or be in possession of kiddie porn.
• Muslims murder people because some asshole in the USA burns their holy book. That makes as much sense as...well...no wait, it doesn't make sense at all. Their god isn't in their holy book, it's supposed to be in their hearts, minds, and actions. And in this case, their actions speak louder than any words ever could.
• Talentless hack Chuck Norris says that he's heard that the Muslims are taking over with their 'ring of sharia.' He's not sure where or when it's happened in the USA but since he heard someone say it, it must be true. Yo, Chuck, I heard someone say you and Ted Nugent 69 while shooting your 'guns.' So that's got to be true too. Doesn't it?
• Pat Robertson and James Inhofe are incensed that a Muslim candidate won the election in Ivory Coast. How dare those Muslims go to the polls and vote for their candidates? How dare they run for office in places where they make up the majority of the population? Dirty fuckers, Jesus will show them one of these days.
• Alan Keyes says that the earthquakes are a sign that his god is unhappy with us. Remember this comes from a man who disowned his daughter because she came out of the closet. I'd say if a god got mad at anybody in that situation it'd be the asshole who kicked his daughter out.
• Roman Catholics and Mormons still hate marriage equality. If you call yourself either of those things then you hate marriage equality too.
• Some guy wrote what he's calling a secular bible. Nice try guy, but I reject your work. I don't believe in or follow any bible, secular or otherwise. And I don't use On the Origin of Species as my holy book either Kirk Cameron, so there. I'm an atheist, I have no bible and I don't look to any bible for any guidance, universal truth, or for inspiration.
  
• I hope Jesus doesn't see the Easter bunny or his shadow when he comes out of his grave on Sunday because if he does then that means we're doomed to another year of idiotic Christianity and it's asinine followers.

My lack of religion demands that I stand up to hate

Not only should liberals, progressives, and all people who love equality boycott the wretched home state of the Church of Latter Day Haters, the people who are otherwise known as the
we should also boycott the state of California until their legislature gives back the rights that the Mormons and Catholics (sorry FranYouAre) took away with Prop 8.

If I see that a product is made in California I won't buy it until this wrong against gay people is righted. I know all my California commenters are pro gay marriage and my boycott isn't meant to harm or take away business from you fine people, it's meant to hurt and take business away from the asses who don't want their fellow gay and lesbian citizens to be equal.

This latest out pouring of hate is nothing new for the Mormons. For many years they preached that Native Americans and African Americans were lesser beings than whites. They claimed that the people with dark skin were responsible for Jesus death and so it was okay to hate and marginalize them. They claim that they no longer feel that way but I think they are lying because many years ago the snake oil salesman who founded their "religion" said that Mormons could lie to anyone about their odious beliefs and practices as long as it made people accept them into the mainstream of American life.

You Mormons need to put on your sacred underwear and gird your loins because now that we have put a Democrat in the White House we're on the hunt for equality for our gay brothers and sisters. We're not about to let you hateful fucks who believe in a religion that's stranger than most (Think about this, if there was this great civilization that used chariots and smelted iron in America during the time when Jesus was supposed to be alive as the Mormon bible claims, then how come there have never been any artifacts of it unearthed?
