Succinct movie reports

This light frothy film is a spoof on romantic comedies.  I found it to be laugh out loud funny at times and enjoyable all the time.

This is a super cool Iranian vampire flick that stars people you've seen in other projects.  It's in Farsi so watch it with the subtitles on.  It and it's sound track owe a huge debt to the early work of Jim Jarmusch, but that's a good thing.

Movie reports

Two young New Zealand boys with vivid imaginations deal with the return of their previously incarcerated father in their own ways.  They try to bond with their down but not out dad with varying degrees of success. This little gem is one of the best films about childhood you'll ever see.  It captures the fleeting moments when you think your parents are invincible and it shows what it's like for a couple of kids to find out their remaining parent is far from perfect.  This film is sweet, enchanting, funny, and touching.  I can't recommend it highly enough.

On a ski vacation while having lunch on an outdoor deck an avalanche rumbles toward the ski resort where a young couple and their two small children are staying.  When it looks like the avalanche is going to engulf the deck the father grabs his phone and ski goggles and runs away from his family, while his wife tries to protect the kids.  After everyone is found to be safe because the avalanche stops just short of the resort, the family has to deal with the fact their the father turned tail and ran.  The dad refuses to admit he did what he did and the wife refuses to let him off the hook for it.  They drag another couple into their drama and the kids deal with the situation in their own way too.

I quite liked this bleakly funny black comedy from Sweden. It was a bit long and it contains a few too many needless shots of the mountains and the nearly empty resort, but by and large it works.  Watching the father squirm and twist his way out of taking responsibility for his cowardice is offputting but funny.  I recommend seeing this one now before it gets remade by an American film studio.

Ugh.  A drunken cop gets turned into a wolf so some blizzard shapeshifters can drink his blood and stay immortal.  It's all awful.  They want to be 'so bad we're actually good' but they miss by a mile.  Seriously, this one stinks.

A double movie report

In an arid dystopian future a cheeky sexy gal and her pals go up against the evil corporate overlords who run the world and who control most all of the water.  She uses all the weapons at her disposal, guns, her sense of humor, her sexuality, and a friendship with some hybrid creatures called 'rippers.'  They fight the power and you know what happens next.

This one is entertaining on most levels but I didn't buy Lori Petty as the heroine.  She cute and sexy and all but she's kind of slight and waif-ish.  If Naomi Watts had been the lead and Petty in the supporting role, it might have worked a lot better.  I've had many people tell me the comic book this film is based on is much better than the film.  Still, if you like goofy action films or films about dystopian futures, then this one isn't bad.

Some live action role play nerds accidentally conjure up a succubus and then they accidentally turn it into something more dangerous.  Some of them die fighting the creature but the important ones live.

This one is really goofy and kind of schizo.  It wants to be a comedy that makes fun of easy targets, then it wants to be a horror film with gory deaths, then it wants to be an action film.  It succeeds at being none of those things.  I think the film makers see this film as an homage to roleplay games and the people who play them but it comes off as mean spirited. It's not horrible, but it's not that great.  Peter Dinklage and a super cute Summer Glau are the best things about this film.  He's about the only funny character and she's super cute and you get to see her cleavage a lot.  See it if you want but you're not missing much if you don't watch it.

Massive movie report

I've been snowed in on and off for over a week now.  I watch a lot of movies that way.  Here's my report on five I've seen recently.
An Australian woman wants to make an effective propaganda film opposing the coal seam gas mining in her local neighborhood so she decides to get tips on how to make a really effective one from the masters of propaganda films, the North Koreans.  She writes her script, assembles her cast, and then she flies off to the DPRK to get assistance from some of the late Kim Jong Il's favorite film makers and actors.  It's all very cute, endearing, and somewhat serious.  In the end she achieves her goal and along the way she makes lots of new friends.  I highly recommend this one, it's on Netflix.

Very disturbing film about a buttoned down put upon shy man who toils away at a horrible job until one day he runs into his doppelganger.  Things go downhill for him from there.

The IT Crowd alum Richard Ayoade adapted and directed this film and he used a lot of the cast from his first film Submarine and from his days on the aforementioned Brit-com.  It's a spectacularly good film and I'm a huge fan of anything he directs.
I loved this film when I first saw it at the age of 8 or 9, but on recent viewing again at age 52, it doesn't hold up well at all.  The story is full of holes, the songs detract from most of the story, and why the fuck does no one notice that Dick Van Dyke is the only character with an American accent?

Visually, it's very pretty and so is the bewitching Sally Ann Howes but on the whole, it just doesn't work at all.
Speaking of not working, this loud joyless, humorless, pointless reboot of Robocop just plain stinks.  I barely made it through it.  I'm guessing all involved needed a paycheck.

This is a really terrific little claustrophobic thriller from New Zealand. A young woman gets caught trying to ripoff an ATM to feed her drug habit but instead of sending her to treatment yet again, they send her to her mother's home where she's going to be under house arrest for 8 months.  Pretty quickly into her home incarceration weird things start to happen and she and her paranormal obsessed parole officer try to sort everything out.  There's plenty of twists and turns and a many a shocking surprise thrown in to keep you on your toes and the whole thing is laced with a good bit of subtle humor.  I loved it all, especially the last 40 minutes.  I super highly recommend this one.

Massive movie report round up

Decent little indy film about a woman who tracks down the guy who got her pregnant after a one night stand.  He's going through some shit in his life and when it's revealed he's the faher of the young boy, things get worse for him and others.

I quite liked this character study and as usual Anna Friel and Romola Garai are stunningly beautiful.

Very cute romantic comedy about two quirky people who find love through an injured duck.  Rhys Darby is charmingly normal and Sally Hawkins if awfully cute.

Surprisingly good good film about the goings on in a creepy insane asylum.  Nobody is who they seem to be and things go weirder from there.  This film is taut and full of surprises, right up until the end.  Also, Kate Beckinsale, is a really really really beautiful woman.

Very likable yet moody film about the tumult surrounding Marilyn Monroe's time shooting a film with Laurence Olivier in the late 1950's.  Michelle Williams turns in a sexy drowsy great performance as Monroe.  Kenneth Branagh however is wildly miscast and he and his crazy German accent are a huge distraction.
Meh.  Another 'child genius' brings people together film.  It's okay but it's a lot like Little Man Tate.

Very good revisionist style western that helped make Robert Altman famous.  One of Paul Newman's finest performances.

Monkey Movie Report

It's been a while since I saw a really cheesy horror film and I found this one on Netflix instant the other day and I gave it a shot.  If you like your cheesy horror films drenched in Serbs, then this one is for you.

Two allegedly American gals, with thick Serbian accents, not too long out of college go on aquatic related vacation in Serbia, they do this despite the fact that one of them has serious issues with swimming and the sea in general.  They meet up with an old boyfriend, who is now engaged to a sleazy looking local woman, and sparks still fly between the guy and one of the 'American' gals.  Everybody makes nice, drinks, gets drunk, a few of them have sex, regret it, and they all change into swim wear and go off to an island that used to be a Nazi concentration camp.  Yes, you heard that right, an island in the ocean off Serbia was a Nazi concentration camp.  Yes, I know, it boggles the mind.

Once on this island they encounter a murderous old dude and a mermaid.  And she's a shape changing mermaid who can go back and forth between being a hot mermaid to a scaly fish looking creature with a mouth full of scary looking teeth.  Of course most everyone dies before the hottest of the 'American' gals gets rescued.

The whole thing is pretty preposterous.  From the American girls who speak with heavy Serbian accents, to the idea that the Nazis would make an idyllic island off a beautiful coat a concentration camp, to the shape changing mermaid, to the...oh fuck it, it's just all bad.  And it's not bad in a 'it's so bad it's good!' way, it's bad in a 'it's painful to watch these women with uni brows try to act sexy and act like they're not Serbian and why did they bother wasting so much money on this stupid shit' way.

Seriously, it's pretty atrocious. It makes you wish the Croats had been better armed during the wars that took place in the wake of the break up of the country formerly known as Yugoslavia.

Monkey movie reports

This one is an intense and disturbing alien abduction film.

A family going through some hard economic times begins experiencing some paranormal stuff in their home,  Gradually they figure out it's aliens who are doing some sort of experiment on them.  They fight back but things don't do too well.

It's well acted and well shot.  The mood is tense and the overwhelming vibe is one of imminent impending claustrophobic doom.

I quite liked it and I expect there will be a sequel.

Things are done a certain way in a small Danish town and any deviation is not only frowned upon, it's actively discouraged, sometimes violently so.  A policeman from Copenhagen suffering from a mental breakdown comes to stay and he fins out the hard way that things are a bit different in the town.  Once he gets used to things, he tries to take advantage of them but he eventually learns that things don't always go as planned.

This one is good but very creepy and a bit violent at times.

Three Monkey Movie Reports

I thought this film was going to be a bit of mindless fun.  I was wrong, it wasn't any fun at all, it's just mindless.

The tamest bunch of juvenile delinquents is shipped off to a camp in the woods for some reeducation.  A hard ass drill sergeant like guy is supposed to work them till they drop and a caring social worker is supposed to get them to talk about what they did and how they can change.  But as happens so often in films like these, things go horribly awry.  Out on a hike one of the kids finds a horn from a slain ox and he steals it, next thing you know our little band of reprobates is being stalked and murdered by an axe wielding giant.  Then things go downhill from there.

How stupid is this piece of shit?  Let me count the ways:

  • Most all of it is shot in front of a green screen and it makes you realize that not all CGI effects are good, or even tolerable.
  • To say the acting is subpar is to give too much credit to all the bad performances in this film.
  • Even though the film is set in the Minnesota mountain wilderness, the hermit who is a friend to the axe wielding giant speaks with a pronounced southern accent.  It's jarring and annoying every time you hear him speak and unfortunately he doesn't get horribly murdered until near the end.
  • The teenage daughter of the sheriff looks like she's 35 years old.
  • The heroes of the film are some cammo wearing gun toting ammosexuals who belong to a local militia.
Seriously, it's fucking awful.

These late '70's horror films of Cronenberg's are quite the thing to behold.  They're not great but they're so fucking odd and compelling that you can't help but stay riveted.  In this one a divorced guy with a little daughter notices that bad things are happening to people in his life, and by bad, I mean people in his extended family are getting murdered by human like creatures.  He goes to see his ex wife's therapist who is the inventor of some kind of radical new therapy that taps into the patient's rage and when that's mixed with some role play with the therapist, it's supposed to cure the patient.  But things don't quite work out that way for the main character's ex wife.  Turns out she's having loads of asexually reproduced rage babies that grow incredibly fast and they attack and murder whoever is bothering her at the moment.

The film is chock full of Canadian actors who went on to be in a many north American produced films and TV shows. But the main 'names' are Oliver Reed as the therapist and Samantha Eggar as the rage baby producing wife.

This film is that good, it's very ragged around the edges and it feels like it was slapped together after a week or two of shooting, but it's still worth watching.  Oliver Reed is crazy as the simmering with his patient's rage and Eggar is sufficiently creepy as the mare of the rage brood.  It's very much a product of it's times.

After nearly 30 after this film came out I finally watched it.  It's definitely aimed at people younger than I am but I liked it because it's like a blast of nostalgia.

An unhappy teen girl (the incredibly lovely Jennifer Connelly) is roped into babysitting her infant brother, the product of her father's remarriage to a woman she dislikes.  The girl wishes the goblins would take her brother and then she's shocked when they actually do.  The baby is spirited away to the goblin kingdom which is presided over by the goblin king (singer David Bowie).  The girl is given 13 hours to make her way through the labyrinth to rescue her baby brother and if she can't then he turns into a goblin and will have to live forever in the goblin kingdom.  Of course she overcomes all the obstacles and she saves her kid brother and all is okay in the end.

It's a cute film, the script was written by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame and Jim Henson directed it, so of course it going to be chock full of his creatures and some are incredibly stunning and clever and some are incredibly stupid and annoying.  Thank goodness most are clever and not stupid.  Connelly is achingly beautiful and a joy to watch.  Bowie is oddly compelling and he plays most of his role in a pair of the tightest pants mankind has ever seen, while clad in said pants you can not only see the contours of his penis, you can count the hairs on his nutsack.

Like I said, it's aimed at a young audience but it's a film I enjoyed quite a bit.  Some of the effects and creature are wildly stunning and were way ahead of their time.

Film reports

Interesting film about the world of back up singers.  Some are content to sing back up, some got screwed over and were forced to keep singing back up, and some tried to bust out and sing lead but it didn't happen for them.  All the stories are interesting and well worth your time.

Cute but super predictable film about four people who meet when they all decide to commit suicide by jumping off a tall building.  Imogen Poots, who is supposed to be the young blond 'it girl' from Britain today is highly annoying in this film.  The other leads, meh.  It's okay, nothing special.

Lavish retelling of the life of the Duchess of Devonshire.  Her husband was unfaithful and shitty towards her, mostly until she bore him a son, but even afterwards he was a shit to her.  He bedded her best friend and she moved in with them and into his bedroom.  But when she had a public affair like him, he went ballistic and threatened to take away her children.  I quite liked this film, usually I root against all the nobles in films like this one, but Keira Knightly won me over.  This is her best role since Bend it like Beckham.
I liked most all of this gritty true crime film about a the murder of a cop and the survivors guilt of his partner.  James Woods is charismatic as anything as the creepy small time hood who murders a cop and goes on to become a jailhouse lawyer of renown.  John Savage is outstanding as the partner of the murdered cop who is forced to deal with PTSD and survivors guilt.  In real life his character was used as an example of what not to do when a cop gets taken as a hostage.  My only problem with this film was the dialogue of some of the black actors, most all of whom turn in fine performances, it was a load of that 'Yas suh, no suh, you is da boss massah' style dialogue.  If it was written that way, then shame on the author Joseph Wambuagh, if it was an acting choice made by the actors, then shame on them.  All in all though, this is a good film that I should have seen a long time ago.

Movie reports

This is another one of those gruesome thrillers where the main protagonist is promised unheard of wealth is he hurts others and commits unspeakable acts.  It's kind of suspenseful but mostly it's gratuitous violence.  It's worth watching if you like these kind of films.  This one is on Netflix instant.

This film is a dramatic look back at  how they made the first Doctor Who's with William Hartnell.  It's an affectionate portrayal of all involved.  I liked it a lot, but then again I'm predisposed to like most anything the super fine Jessica Raine is in.  This one is on HuluPLUS.

This is an interesting little thriller featuring a bunch of hard bodied young people who love to show off those hard bodies.  It's about a young French woman who returns to her home only to run into an old flame she wants to rekindle things with.  Into that situation comes a hot young female American exchange student who gets between them.  Then the weirdness gets turned up a notch when the French girl's brother returns home with some shocking news.  It's a well crafted sexy little thriller.  I highly recommend it.  This one is on Netflix instant.

One out of three ain't bad

"Hey, I have an idea for a slasher film.  It's set in a British school and what happens is this school is terrorized by a bunch of young hooligans in hoodies who kill and maim anyone they can.  The action takes place at night and they do most of the killing in the school.  I'll write in a bunch of hackneyed hoary old stereotypical characters, the alcoholic teacher who's being dumped and divorced by  his hot wife, the sexy principal who never listens to anyone but herself, the sex crazed disobedient daughter, her boyfriend, the worthless wussy security guards, the ineffectual British cops who don't carry guns."

"What's the ending?  Do the hoodie hooligans get some justice in the form of bloody over the top deaths?  Does the alcoholic teacher save the day?  Do the cops bust everyone?"

"No.  There's no resolution.  We just end the film with a school full of hoodie wearing killers, the soon to be ex wife of the teacher, and a shit load of corpses.  The final scene is the teacher driving away from the school, that's it.  No real resolution, it's post modern that way."

"Sounds good to me, make that motherfucker."

And that's how The Expelled came to be made.

I get it it ladies, I understand your fascination with Colin Firth.  He's a handsome dude with a British accent.  But if you only saw him in this film, you'd hate him.  In this film he's a worthless lump of potatoes who happens to be a huge fan of Arsenal, a British soccer team.  He meets a hot new teacher, played by the super sexy Ruth Gemmell, and they hit it off, date, become a couple, and he knocks her up.  But his love of his team comes between them.  Wait, can you see what's coming next?  Sure you do.  You see his team playing for the championship, you see him and her on the outs, you see his team winning it all which gives him the courage to finally grow up and patch things up with his super hot girlfriend who would never fuck a schlub like him in real life.

Ugh.  I did not like this film at all, except for the sexy Ruth Gemmell.  It was disappointing to say the least.

But the weekend viewings was saved by Appropriate Adult.

A man of limited intelligence is arrested for murdering his daughter and a woman is selected to be his 'appropriate adult' who will look out for him and his interests in the murder investigation and possible trial.  He bonds with her and as he does he feels comfortable enough to confess to more murders that he and his wife and his brother committed.  His advocate becomes overwhelmed by all of the proceedings and then her bipolar partner has a breakdown as the case proceeds.

I've made it sound awful but it's really really good.  Dominic West is terrific as the dim witted murderer, everyone else is top notch but West stands above the pack.  It's absorbing and frightening.

All three of these are currently on Netflix instant.

Movie reports

On her 16th a Japanese school girl learns she is part of the ancient HILKO clan and that she has superpowers.  She hooks up with her clan after her parents get killed and she joins them in their fight against humanity until she learns the truth that she is a mongrel, part human/part HILKO, and that even though humans don't like HILKO, they don't deserve to die.

This film is so over the top crazy it's in a league all it's own.  The HILKO all have crazy ass superpowers, one has a chainsaw in her ass that she uses to fight with, another has swords that shoot out her boobs, our heroine has a fantastic kick ass claw that is superduper powered. Toss in one disturbingly good looking dude in make up who is the leader of the HILKO who merges with their god toward the end of the film, samurai who have guns on their noses that look like dicks, and a whole bunch of other weird sci fi martial arts stuff, and you'v got one of the craziest films I've ever seen.  It's crazy in a good way though.  I loved it.  This one is on Netflix instant.
In a little island town off the coast of Nova Scotia some folks are in a funk, a gay dude has trouble accepting his sexuality, the top cop and his realtor wife are having issues, a teenage girl is trying to remain a virgin, while her mom who has been 'easy' in the past is starting to relive her old ways, and the mayor is up to something shady.  All this is going down just as the town is about to have a month long celebration.  But thing have a way of working out and they do work out in this cute but a little too earnest film which I liked a lot.  I especially liked Sandra Oh, she's an incredibly sexy woman and a damn fine actress to boot but there is no way in hell I'm ever going to see her in that medical show she's in, and Ellen Page, who is super hot as the little virgin who's fighting off her ardent boyfriend.  This one is cute and worth watching. It's on Netflix Instant.

In this Russian film of the future humanity has conquered disease, ended war, and got it's shit together enough to allow humans to go out exploring and doing good shit on other planets.  An impossibly good looking dude named Maxim has space ship trouble and he lands on a planet that's experiencing a revolution.  He joins forces with a guy he meets who has a hot sister who falls in love with him and they all join forces with others to fight the Unknown Fathers and a mysterious guy named Roamer.

This one is over the top too, in a crazy good way.  It's all hyper real and it's a film that Terry Gilliam would make if he was hooked on steroid laced meth.  The acting is over the top and the story makes no sense at times, but damn, you just can't look away.  It's the best/craziest Russian sci fi film I've ever seen.

We watched this documentary about the late Elaine Stritch on the night she passed away, it was our memorial to her.  It's funny and touching at times.  I had no idea she how much she had seeped into our national consciousness. It's worth watching.  It's on Netflix instant.

Very 'actorly' film that tells the story of a guy who invents a bullshit 'religion' and who is much like the late fraud L. Ron Hubbard.  It's a good film that features fine performance by the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Laura Dern, and Jesse Plemons.  There's lots of method acting and emoting and actors getting down to the real nitty gritty, enough to power a small city.  It's very absorbing and Hoffman and Phoenix chew lots of scenery.  It's currently on Netflix instant.

Movie reports

The original Korean and Spike Lee's remake are pretty much the same film with only a few slight differences.  After a night of hard drinking a man gets kidnapped and is imprisoned in a hotel room for many years.  Eventually the man decides to toughen up and seek revenge on whoever it is who has imprisoned him.  Once he finally gets out he goes about doing just that.

Like I said, there are some slight differences in these two films but by and large they don't matter and each of the films stands on their own.  They're both good meditations on vengeance and how it corrupts and fouls those who seek it.  I recommend both.  Spike's version is a little tighter and I like his ending better but the Korean version is over the top with and is stuffed with fantastical elements.

Turns out this sweet little film is also about vengeance but it shows you how to not let it overcome you.  A young woman has a brief sexual encounter in 1950's Ireland and is forced into a convent to have her child.  The nuns rip her child from her and give it to a wealthy American couple and she spends the next fifty years thinking about, loving, and secretly pining for that child.  She meets a journalist who helps her find out what happened and along the way she figures out how to come to terms with it and how to forgive the unforgivable.

Coogan and Dench are terrific in this sweet film and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Movie reports

Warm cute little film about acceptance and finding love.  Once you get past the fact that this is ultra low budget and filled with a cast of non famous actors, it's actually fun and warmly funny.  I liked the aliens and how they all used that stilted way of talking that was made famous by sci fi films of the 1950's.  I also liked the little schlubby lesbian lead, she was endearingly cute.  The only thing that didn't work for me was the male agents.  They just seemed tacked on and pointless.

I haven't been a fan of basketball since the early 1980's but I'm a fan of Detroit sport teams and I remembered hearing how much everyone hated these Pistons teams, so I watched this documentary and I quite liked it.  Yes, they played rough, and yes, they paid for it by not getting picked to the Olympic teams and by not being admitted into the upper echelons of the NBA, but fuck it, they were champs and no amount of bad blood or dislike of them and the way they played can take that away from them.

I didn't like this self serving documentary much.  It seemed to me to be a 'let's exonerate Vlade Divac' exercise.

I didn't believe a word of this 'documentary.'  I didn't buy the premise and I still don't.  It may be true but the way Ms. Polley presents this story it just seemed fishy to me.  I still like her and most of her other work but I didn't care much for this one.

Movie reports

I finally saw this early '70's gem the other night, thank gawd for Netflix instant view.   It's about a guy who rejected the easy choices that society and family wanted him to make.  He's living life on his terms, as much as that's possible, when he hears his father is gravely ill.  He goes home to see him and the rest of his family and while there he sees that he made the right choice back when he decided to leave in the first place.  This is an oddly compelling film full of naturalistic acting, especially by Nicholson, who was rightly nominated for an Academy Award for this role.  But it's also an unsettling portrait of family weirdness and learning to let go of the people in your life who my love you the most but who also hold you back the most.  It's also chock full of iconic 1970's actors including Karen Black, looking blazing hot but saddled with the worst ever southern accent, Fanny Flagg and Sally Struthers, in their first film roles, and Ralph Waite, the future poppa Walton.  I can see how this film has earned it's place in the modern film cannon, I highly recommend it.

Sarah Polley is lovely.  She's a great actor and a fine director.  Stephen Rea is a very good soulful looking actor.  They are both in this creepy film about an older guy who digs shacking up with younger women.  We're supposed to be happy for all involved because it's all consensual and Rea's character teaches them how to grow as people and as artists, but I found it to be super creepy.  And I found the only honest character in it to be Jean Smart's vindictive matriarch who confronts Rea's character after she finds out her daughter is sleeping with him, this is by far the best performance Smart has turned in.  The whole film feels so much like a love letter to the 1990's, it was made in 1999, that it made me kind of nostalgic for the days when we thought multiculturalism and world music was going to help us conquer everything.  Alas, I can't recommend this film, but as I said, Ms Polley is lovely in it, as are the other women who were bedded by Rea's character.

Movie reports

A stressed out guy on vacation with his girlfriend accidentally kills his brother and then things go downhill for the couple from there.  This one is a gruesome little comedy that isn't bad.  It has it's moments.  Tyler Labine is always good in roles like this, but Lucy Punch is wasted in this one.  It's on Netflix instant.

The political hacks in the corporate media love to tell us that George McGovern was a loser because of his loss to Nixon in the 1972 presidential election, but as usual, they're wrong.  McGovern was an upright moral man, perhaps too moral for the cesspool of politics that is Washington DC.  He was a war hero, a man who revived the Democratic party in his home state of South Dakota, and a man who lived his convictions.  He was against the war in Vietnam before it was politically popular and in his run for the White House in '72 he broke the grip of old white men who ran the Democratic party by opening it up to women, people of color, and gay folks.  Without his run in 1972 there would have been no Carter or Clinton presidencies and certainly no Obama administration.  If he'd been elected there would have been no Watergate, a quicker end to the quagmire that the was Vietnam war, and perhaps corruption wouldn't be so endemic in DC today.  This fine documentary tells the story of McGovern, the one the corporate media refused to tell for so long.  Considering that Nixon will be remembered for his crimes, for being the only POTUS to resign and leave office in disgrace, and for having many of his administration be led off in handcuffs, while McGovern's legacy of goodness and decency lives on to this day, I'd say McGovern was the real winner.  I highly recommend this documentary that's currently on Netflix Instant.

A guy in a small Aussie town on his way to a job interview gets sidetracked by bad people who do bad things to one another.  There's a bag of cash, a hot woman, a hot tempered sheriff, and a very bad guy who may or may not be in law enforcement all mixed up in this thriller.  I quite liked it and honestly, a naked Emma Booth is always a welcome sight in any film.  This one is on Netflix instant.
