How nice is that? It's super nice, that's how nice it is. I've been meaning to get some music by Enter The Haggis but I just never got around to it. Boy howdy, am I glad that Suzy got around to it for me because this band rocks. They're not the usual Celtic/Gaelic band, they've got a hard edge to their music that I'm really digging on.

Tag, I'm it

My great and good blog friend Barbara tagged me with a new to me meme.  The rule of this meme is to link five websites you like and visit frequently, write about why you like them so much and then tag five more people to do the same.  Strap in then, here we go:

1)  Flickr.  I'm on this website all the time.  I have about 10 different Flickr identities and at the rate I scan stuff and put it online I'll probably have 10 more before the spring is done.  What can I say though?  I love looking at everyones photo sets and one set usually leads to another, especially if someones photos are in a group pool.  Oh how I love you Flickr.

2) Think Progress and Crooks and Liars.  Ok, I cheated a bit but to me these sites will always be one.  I check one and then after I get done I click over to the other one.  I get lots of blog post ideas from what I read on both sites and I've been a fan of both of these fine sites since before I started blogging.  In the interest of full disclosure, I've been linked a few times on Crooks and Liars and I've gained a few readers as a result of it.  I owe Blue Gal more than I can ever repay her for all the times she's linked me on C & L.  If I never said so before BG let me say it now, thanks for all your link love on C & L.  

3)  BBC radio.  One day after I first got high speed internet I somehow found myself on the BBC radio website and I was happier than a pig in shit.  Growing up I always heard about how great the BBC radio programming was but I resigned myself to never hearing it since I did not have a world band radio, thank goodness that the internet changed all that.  I love that I can not only hear better news than I get in this country, I love that I can hear programs about science, history, literature, and my favorite, the comedy shows.  I've discovered The Hudson and Pepperdine Show (which is a talk show parody done by two of the funniest women ever) the radio versions of Little Britain and Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge, The Consultants (a great sketch comedy show), Ectoplasm, and many many many more great funny shows.

4)  Gamescene.  This is a great time waster website.  It's got a ton of games on it and one or more of them might get you hooked, so be careful if you check it out.  My favorites are this one and this one.  Before I became addicted to blogging, writing mine and reading yours, I spent entirely too much time each day playing those two games.

5)  Organic Consumers.  This website is not only a great clearing house for all kinds of information about organic food, it's also got links to local farms and other related organic and green businesses in what ever area of the USA you live in.  As I learn more about the horrible shit that big business puts in our food and the horrible unsustainable way they grow and raise food, this website helps me find other sources of food and it helps educate me on just what is and is not organic.  

Ok then, now for the dreaded tagging of others.  Since I got tagged by a C Cubed babe (Cute Canadian Chick), I'll start by tagging three comely lasses from north of the border Wandering Coyote, Captain Karen, and Jane Austen Jr.  And I'll finish up by tagging a couple of hot babes from the frozen north of the upper midwest, MNMom and Suzy.  Have fun ladies, I look forward to seeing what five websites you gals like.

Oh the things you'll see!

When the Mega Millions lotto gets up around $100 million I make the drive over to Bristol, VA and pick up some tickets. Today after buying a couple of tickets for the next three draws I went into one of the many antique stores in downtown Bristol. I didn't buy anything but since the place was so big I did snap a few pictures of some of the stuff that caught my eye.

When regular bacon isn't enough for you, get yourself some candy bacon! It looks almost life like and it's got a keen "BACON VIEWING WINDOW" just to give it that more realistic look. You can bet Uncle Oinkster is happy that he's not in that package.

I found a treasure trove of these old style scientific sex mags from the '70's. I almost bought this one but I decided against it because it was mostly articles. I'm sorry to say I did not check this to see if the middle article was for or against blackmailing the homosexual. And I didn't see what the answer to the timeless question "Should You Marry Your Cousin?" was. I figured since I have never married any of mine then I didn't need to know.

They had a few lurid gossip mags at the antique store as well. Oh how I loved the cover, it's got Commies doing lobotomies, Oral Roberts, and a gal in a bikini. The British bad girl they refer to on the cover is Joan Collins. This magazine was from the mid to late 1950's and judging by the pictures of her they used in the article she was at least 40 back then. She was on the last series of Footballers Wives on BBC, so you can imagine how old she is by now.

Despite the urge to snap all three of these magazines up I settled for just taking photos of the covers.

I don't think Ms. DeMos ever had a tan in her life.

But it wasn't all bacon, babes, and side boob, I did spot some Quaker propaganda.
I'm betting Blue Gal or Suzy planted it there to lure unsuspecting and impressionable kids to Quakerism. Those insidious Quaker vixens will stop at nothing in their attempt for world Quaker domination. Oh well, I suppose it could be worse, we all could fall prey to the unholy siren song of the Mennonites.

Swag update

I got some new swag from some of my dear readers! Woo hoo! Who loves me baby? Beautiful women north of the Mason Dixon line that's who!

The lovely Tanya Espanya sent me an envelope full of swag and I got it today. The Tanya prize pack included this photo of her and her handsome hubby having a cocktail while baby Alexander is left unattended.
She also sent me little packet of green tea.

And this keen note pad!The milk chocolate candy bar you sent broke a bit but it seems to be okay. Since I can no longer eat chocolate bars Sparky will enjoy the one you sent Tanya. Thanks for all the neat stuff!

I also got swag from a lovely lady in Wisconsin. The Quaker vixen Suzy gifted me with this fun monkey sticker:And she sent me her holiday catch up letter and included in that letter were photos of her, her husband Ed, and her beautiful daughters. Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, she also sent me a sign photo of The Motor Primitives, my official house band and you can see it on the sidebar. Thanks for all the keen stuff Suzy!

So if you're keeping score at home, I've gotten swag from two Canadian hotties (Barbara and Tanya) and one Quaker vixen. The rest of you have a long way to go to catch up to this group of women who I am now going to refer to as Monkey's Angels.

Question of the day

Today's question comes from my good blog friend and Winter Reading Challenge compatriot, the Quaker Vixen of the north, Suzy. Suzy wants to know: Which are smarter, cats or dogs?

On one hand, dogs are pretty damn smart because they can respond to and understand human speech and demands, while we on the other hand can not understand them for the most part. So I'd have to go with dogs. But.....

On the other hand cats may be able to understand us but they have the sense enough not to let us know if they do. By making us bend to their will cats are pretty smart. And they are more independent than dogs.

But on the third hand, yeah I know, "third hand" doesn't exist, well neither does the "third eye" smart ass, both dogs and cats have allowed themselves to be domesticated so both creatures reap the benefits of humans being at the top of the evolutionary ladder.

But, and this is my last "but" I promise, since I'm a dog person, I'd say dogs are smarter.
