Quakers are really really nice

Suzy the Wisconsin Quaker vixen sent me a package of swell swag.

She sent me this DVD:
And also she sent me this CD:
How nice is that? It's super nice, that's how nice it is. I've been meaning to get some music by Enter The Haggis but I just never got around to it. Boy howdy, am I glad that Suzy got around to it for me because this band rocks. They're not the usual Celtic/Gaelic band, they've got a hard edge to their music that I'm really digging on.

Thank you Suzy!

Saturday stuff

I put this together all by myself in about 30 minutes and I only cussed once:
Yay extra counter space!

********

After years of searching we finally found a cast iron enamel cook pot that can be used on the stove top or in the oven for under $50 bucks.
We always see ones that size that routinely sell for anywhere between $150 to $300. We nearly plotzed when we saw this beauty for under $50, so we snapped it up.

In the swag department, the queen of swag, Suzy the Quaker Vixen, sent me these two items plus a couple of full color copies of pages from a version of the classic kid's story Ten Little Monkeys.

Three cheers for Suzy!

Christmas in August

The lovely Suzy, aka School Librarian of the North Country, aka the Quaker Vixen, aka the Reading Monster, seen here dancing on top of all the books she's read in the past few days, sent me some more swag! That's right, I said, "more," as in this is the second bit o' swag she's tossed my way. This time she sent me a handmade Ukrainian style egg ornament. She took a real egg, blew out the yolk and the egg white, and then dyed the outside using a batik like process. Ain't it cool?
El Tigre (that's what I decided to name my little figure knowing full well he's got another name that I could care less about because I have decided his name is El Tigre) liked it so much he wanted to model it for you:

As I said this is Suzy's second offering of swag. I'm not suggesting that the rest of you need to send me two swag offerings, oh no. The rest of you can feel free to send me one swag package and I'll be happy with that, after all most of you are not the over achiever that Suzy is.

Thanks for the swell gift Suzy. I can't wait to hang it on our tree later this year, which hopefully will be set up in a new to us Monkey Central.

Question of the day

Today's question comes from my good blog friend and Winter Reading Challenge compatriot, the Quaker Vixen of the north, Suzy. Suzy wants to know: Which are smarter, cats or dogs?

On one hand, dogs are pretty damn smart because they can respond to and understand human speech and demands, while we on the other hand can not understand them for the most part. So I'd have to go with dogs. But.....

On the other hand cats may be able to understand us but they have the sense enough not to let us know if they do. By making us bend to their will cats are pretty smart. And they are more independent than dogs.

But on the third hand, yeah I know, "third hand" doesn't exist, well neither does the "third eye" smart ass, both dogs and cats have allowed themselves to be domesticated so both creatures reap the benefits of humans being at the top of the evolutionary ladder.

But, and this is my last "but" I promise, since I'm a dog person, I'd say dogs are smarter.

Thanks for sending in that question Suzy! You rock.

Get out those handkerchiefs kids because tomorrow is the end of "Question a Day." And to those of you who sent in two questions, I appreciate your zeal but in order to be fair to everyone I chose only one of your questions.

Thanks Suzy

Thanks for reminding me of how much I love Johnny Clegg. My college pals and I would blast this song and we'd sing so loud along with it that I swear they could hear us in the next county.

Thanks again for reminding me Suzy. You Quakers sure can rock!
