Thank goodness for the Sundance Channel

If it wasn't for the good people at the Sundance Channel then films like this would never be seen by a nationwide audience: We saw this film on Sundance Monday night. It's about how the people of Peru gave up their rights to a corrupt dictator who promised that he was going to smash the terrorist threat to their nation. Don't get me wrong, the Shining Path was indeed a nasty terrorist organization bent on subjugating the people of Peru to their Communist ways. But it turned out that the cure was worse than the disease. Alberto Fujimori used his war on terror as a pretext to rob the people of Peru of their civil rights, their lives, and their cash. Now does that remind you of a certain member of the Bush crime family?

One is struck by the parallels between what Fujimori did and what Bush is doing. They both chipped away at our freedom in the name of fighting terrorism, although if you ask me one really did a have credible threat and it wasn't Bush. It's amazing how history repeats itself in these cases where we let fear mongering rule our lives and our national political discourse.

I was also struck once again at the insanity of using the military and the police to fight terrorism. This film shows once again that the only way to really fight terrorism is to address the root causes of why people become terrorists in the first place. And people usually become terrorists not because they hate freedom but because they have been oppressed economically, politically, sexually, or because of their dark skin. When people have had enough of being treated like shit by the rich elites and the oppressive governments and economic systems they impose then they usually strike out the only way they can, which is usually through violent means, case in point, the American revolution and most every revolution that has taken place after it.

Call me crazy or paranoid but I do indeed fear that one day soon another "terrorist attack" is going to take place and Bush is going to come on TV to tell us that in order to save the USA he is going to dissolve Congress, abandon the Constitution, and rule by decree like Fujimori did. If that does come to pass then I hope that we rise up sooner than the Peruvian people did when they finally tossed out their dictator.

A lesson in reality for Mitt Romney

Hey Mitt I saw where you claimed that we liberals and progressives "fear" the reality of the terrorists and I just wanted to let you know that you're wrong. We don't fear the terrorists, our fear is that you and your President will continue to make more terrorists. I know how you are prone to flip flopping on most every issue so I am going to set you straight now on how to end terrorism the right way.

And maybe when I'm done you'll flip over to my side.
Hey! Not so fast, let me get out what I came to tell you.

Seriously, stop it, you're making me dizzy.

Okay, if we stop supporting regimes that brutalize their citizens, that deny them the basic rights we have (you know like the ones in our Bill of Rights), that sell out their country to the multi national corporations, and that blindly do the IMF and WTO's evil bidding, then we will not create terrorists. If we treat every human being with respect and dignity and make sure that all people (not just white Jeebus followers) have their human rights safeguarded then you just watch terrorism dry up. If we reigned the out of control lawless multi national corporations that screw us over and foul our earth, then see if that doesn't help end terrorism.

See Mitt, the one who is afraid of reality is you and your pals at ExxonMobilWal-MartMicrosoft and in the Republican party. If you all stopped all your shit and actually did something good for people, like just what I mentioned above, then terrorism would end. Oh wait, if you did that then that would mean that you and your pals would be without all the wealth and power that you all stole from us. Well, anyway, we're ready to really end terrorism once and for all and make this planet a better place for all, are you with us or are you afraid of reality?

So you're with us?!?!
Oh, ok, that's what I thought. It's okay Mitt, I understand. You know what though? We don't need you anyway, we got these two with us. And millions more like them.

Ladies and gentlemen, coming to you live on videotape from Monkey Muck HQ, Dr. Monkey Von Monkerstein.

Good evening. My fellow Americans, after witnessing the oddly macabre performance of Bob Kerry on the Bill Moyers show tonight I have decided to come to speak to you about how we can end the war on Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Kerry wrote a piece in the Wall Street Journal recently that pretty much supported the Idiot in Chief Bush's disastrous war. Mr. Kerry went on to invoke the bogeyman of international jihadists and the need for us to combat them.

Mr. Kerry is entitled to his opinions, as are all Americans and all people in general, no matter how wrong or pig headed he may be. He acknowledged that the war is the number one issue in his home state of Nebraska and maybe even in the country. Yet his support of the junta who run the White House would keep us in Iraq forever and we feel that Mr. Kerry offered no solutions for ending the war and establishing true peace. That is where we step in.

America, we now will layout the plan to end the war:
  • We quickly replace the US armed forces with UN Peacekeeping troops and an army whose members are drawn from Muslim nations, notably our so called partners in the war on terror, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Jordan. It makes sense that the budding democracy in Iraq be watched over by troops from neighboring countries whose soldiers share more with the Iraqis and Afghans than our soldiers do.
  • We bring our soldiers home.
  • We boot out Blackwater, Halliburton, and other companies that are engaging in rebuilding work that should be being done by Iraqi and Afghan citizens.
  • The USA will maintain only a watchdog presence over the rebuilding of Iraq and Afghanistan and those US watchdogs will be watched by a bipartisan group selected by the UN.
  • In order to end terrorism once and for all in the Middle East we stop supporting regimes in the Middle East that oppress their citizens and that are propped up by big oil companies. That means all aid to countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan, and others to be named later as needed will be cut off unless they embrace democracy fully, end censorship, stop torturing dissidents, grant full and equal rights to women, and boot out multi national oil corporations.
  • We will stop allowing Israel to run rough shod over Palestinians.
  • A new homeland for the Palestinians will be established on Israeli and Jordanian land. Borders will be secured and policed by a tough UN force.
  • Any state sponsorship of terrorism, including any sponsored by the US and her European allies, will be severely punished militarily, politically, and economically.

America, if you are through fucking around with that Idiot Bush and the Dark One, and if you are sick of the never ending warwithoutendAmen, then get behind my plan and let's end the war, end terrorism, and end injustice now. After we end the things I just mentioned, then we tackle the corporate stranglehold on our government and on our daily lives.

When we get all that done and I accept my Nobel Prize, then I will be able to sayWe'll be working on that Nobel Prize acceptance speech while we wait on your response America.
