Never forget

In their zeal to pat the moldering corpse of Nelson Mandela on the back as they lower him into the dustbin of history, the right wing in this country want you to forget how they tried for years to paint Mandela as a Communist terrorist.  But we must never let them forget how they persecuted Mandela and by extension all black folks, and justice loving white folks too, in South Africa.

For many years the government and corporate media machine here in the USA backed any dictator (Samoza, Sadat, Mubarak, Pinochet, etc), any repressive government (Saudi Arabia, Chile, South Africa, etc), and backed any movement (the Contras, the Taliban, Al Qaeda, etc) as long as they were anti Communist.  And anyone who opposed those who we backed we labeled them as Communists and terrorists.

The South African government's system of apartheid was supported by the US government because they provided us with a bulwark against the scary black Communists in Africa, which was where we fought many a proxy war during the cold war years.  If anyone opposed apartheid, then they opposed capitalism and they must by extension be a Communist, hence our refusal to press for Mandela's release or the end of apartheid.  St. Ronnie Reagan fought tooth and nail against sanctions and to keep Mandela locked up.  Bush the elder did as well, until it became crystal clear that Mandela was getting out and that the right was on the wrong side of history yet again.

Now they want us to forget all that.  Well fuck that.  I'll never forget it.  I won't let them use Mandela's life to prop up their corrupt political posturing.  They hated and feared him.  They tried to keep him locked up forever.  And if you read comments by them on articles on Mandela's death, they still feel that way.  Fuck them.  Fuck them bloody with a chainsaw.

Don't be stupid

Right wing conservatives love to twist history.  Facts be damned, they'll make history fit their narrative no matter what.  Some of their latest lies are:

• The Sikh temple shooter in Wisconsin is a liberal.  The logic behind this one is that the shooter was a racist skinhead and racist skinheads are Neo Nazi.  Nazi, in German, means National Socialist Party.  Since the word 'Socialist' is in the word 'Nazi' all Nazis therefore are liberal socialists.  There's a problem with all that faulty logic.  The problem is Nazism is a fascist political movement and fascism is a right wing conservative ideology.  If you doubt what I'm telling you, look it up it's history or better yet, ask a Neo Nazi skinhead if he's a liberal and see what happens.
•  It was Democrats who opposed civil rights for minorities, liberals were the ones with the water hoses trying to drown black folks.  This is nonsense and I have to go back to the end of the Civil War to show you why.  Abe Lincoln was a Republican, although today he'd be kept out of the party, he won the war, kept the union together, and freed the slaves.  For all that he was bitterly hated in the south.  For many years after the war being a Republican was not an option in my southern states, so even though many conservative southerners even though they agreed in principle with the Republican party, they refused to identify as a Republican.  So many who kept the machinery of Jim Crow segregation laws in place were in fact Democrats in name only.  They were conservatives, politically, religiously, and culturally.  Fast forward to the 1960's when LBJ got the Voting Rights Act passed.  Southern conservatives were outraged, they had fought desegregation and racial equality all along, and with the assurance that they could not suppress the black vote any longer, they finally jumped ship to the Republican party.  Go take a look back at conservative literature, books, magazines, films, and the like from the 1950's onward and you'll see that segregation and Jim Crow were two big parts of being conservative.
• Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was anti union and a Republican.  King was in Memphis to show his support for the garbage workers strike.  He was shot the morning after delivering a fiery speech in support of unions.  He not only supported unions, he supported birth control, anti poverty programs that relied on taxing the rich, and he was against the war in Vietnam.  King was hated by conservatives back when he was alive, they claimed he was a Communist, a union lover, and a philanderer who preyed on white women.  Conservatives today try to co-opt him because he's not around to speak for himself.

Hey dumb ass

Eating chicken sandwiches to spite the gay folks you hate so much won't make you a good Christian.  That kind of shit won't make Jesus love you more.  If your hateful old ass would have bought a dozen of those sandwiches that you then gave to poor and homeless people, then Jesus might hate you a little less.

And no, for those of you who are easily conned, McDonald's, Burger King, nor Wendy's 'stands with Chick Fil-A.'  Those photos you see on the internet of signs that say they do, those were photoshopped you morons.

One final thing, you can use your freedom of speech to say anything you like.  The fact that you said doesn't mean I have to hear, or if I do hear it, tolerate it.  People who are opposing marriage equality are on the wrong side of history, just like those who used the Christian bible to prop up slavery, prevent women from being equal, and supporting segregation were.  No conservative, either a political or a religious one, ever supported granting equal rights to a minority group, this time is no different.  And just like all the other times, the conservatives will be defeated.

Not white enough for you?

A Nazi sympathizing conservative member of the British Parliament complained that the opening ceremony of the Olympics was 'too multi cultural.'   Meaning, there was too much emphasis on the contributions of dark skinned peoples to British culture.  He also slammed the salute to the National Health Service in the opening ceremony.

First off, I loved the opening ceremony and I especially loved the salute to the NHS, all the interracial couples, and the inclusion of the black and Indian contributions to British culture.  If you took away all the things that black and Indian folks brought to British culture then you'd be left with nothing but boiled food, racial hatred, and long-winded crap novels.

All the rock and roll that the UK has produced?  Get rid of it because it's all based on blues music which black folks invented.  The good food that Britain has?  Toss it because it's there courtesy of the Indians, black folks from around the world, and Asians.  The best of modern British literature?  Shred it because the current status of decent Brit lit is due to people like Zadie Smith, a black woman.  I could go on but you get the point.

To even the most casual student of history it's obvious that the main thrust of Britain's imperialism has been the subjugation of non wihte peoples.  Where ever they sent armies, missionaries, or set up businesses in the world, black and Asian people bore the brunt of the brutality that was meted out by the white Brits.  India, China, Hong Kong, Africa, all still bear the scars of the what the white British did in their mad race to use up and control as many natural resources as possible, and yes, we learned much from our cousins in Britain because we in the USA are just as guilty as the British.  But the point here is that London is hosting the Olympics and some upper crust toffee nosed inbred twit is bemoaning the fact that Danny Boyle saw fit to salute all the great things that blacks and Asians have brought to this homeland. 

Next time Britain hosts the games you can salute genocide, ethnic cleansing, boiled to death vegetables and meat, the spreading of disease, mad cow disease, oppressing the Irish, screwing over Scotland, and all the other great things that white folks did for the UK.

• Andrew Breitbart was a raging asshole. The fact that he was a conservative didn't make him a raging asshole. The fact that he willfully misled and smeared the people he disagreed with lies made him a raging asshole. He ruined the career of Shirley Sherrod for his personal gain. He helped bring down ACORN, an organization that helped the poor and powerless just so he could look good. He went after NPR because they didn't allow him to spout his lies and bullshit. In short, the life of Breitbart was the perfect symbol of what the modern conservative Republican party has become, paranoid, self aggrandizing, racist, and hate filled.
  
• Corporate whore and despicable morbidly obese drug addict Rush Limbaugh called the woman who wanted to testify at the Congressional hearing on birth control a slut, a whore, and one who needs to record all the sex she has so we can watch it since we might have to pay for her contraception. The fact that he said something so obviously sexist and horrid doesn't shock me, idiots have to be who they are after all, they must remain true to what got them to where ever they are in the world. No, what shocks me is there are women still willing to listen and defend anything he spouts in between bites of gravy soaked dollar bills and cheeseburgers made from ground up poor people. And what really shocks me is that there are even women who are willing to have sex with him, provided of course they find his tiny smelly shriveled up cancerous penis among the folds of his fat first. I bet the low self esteem women who want to let him fuck them have to roll him in flour and look for the wet spot before they mount his bloated methane filled crotch.
• The most racist sheriff in America, you know the one, he's the guy in Arizona who hates and wants to imprison anyone who speaks Spanish and who doesn't use a SPF 99 sunblock, held a press conference the other day where he claimed that after further investigation on his part that President Obama's long form birth certificate is a forgery. Color me shocked that this racist who never met a brown skinned person he didn't want to toss in jail finds that the president's birth certificate is a fake. Orly Taitz must have been his chief investigator and Franklin Graham must have been his spiritual counselor.
  
• A Montana judge who forwarded a racist email that said that mixed race children are the result of white women having sex with dogs wants you to know he's not a racist. Riiiiiight. What I'd like you to know is that this asshole isn't a dispassionate jurist, he's a piece of shit who hates white women who have sex and children with black men, black men in general, the president, and you and me for knowing that he's racist. He'd not only like to tear down the new MLK monument in Washington DC, he'd like to go to MLK's grave and piss all over it as well.
  

With role models like these, it must be truly a heady time to be a conservative.

They just can't stop themselves

Franklin Graham says that he accepts it when Newt Gingrich tells him he's a Christian. However, when Obama says it, not so much. What's the difference there? Obama is black and not a full fledged Republican. It's not surprising to see that the son of Billy Graham has such a double standard. After all his father said it was a good thing we bombed Vietnam so that we could bring Jesus to them after we got done bombing the shit out of them.

Santorum says that Obama has a phoney theology. Then he tries to say he was talking about his environmental policies. Then his press secretary said we need to watch out for Obama's radical Islamic policies. Oops, she said she meant to say environmental policies. Bullshit. Both of them said what they meant to say. It's what they believe, so why try to hide or disguise it? Because they're stone cold hypocrites that's why.

When they get caught saying what they really mean they back track and claim they were misquoted. Bullshit. Conservatives are all about making others take responsibility for their actions but they demand you don't hold them accountable for theirs.

Tell me again why idiots like these need to be in power? And why I should listen to them.

These truths should be self evident

• You can fire as many workers as you like, you can ship all those jobs over seas, you can cut the benefits of the few workers you have left, but in the end, if we can't buy your products because we're laid off, fired, had our jobs outsourced, and our benefits and pay cut, then you've only shot yourself in the foot with all those things you did to please Wall Street.
• If the cops start beating 'Occupy Wall Street' protesters after getting millions of dollars from a big Wall Street bank, then people are going to connect the two and assume the NYPD now works for Wall Street and not for the average working stiff.
• If you want to ruin a country's economy then you should start two wars abroad and cut taxes on the wealthiest people and corporations at home. If you don't want to do that...oh wait, it's too late. Bush fucked us and didn't even kiss us first.
• If you're selling something, like oh, let's say a health care overhaul or a jobs bill, then you don't start where you want to end up. You start out by asking for the moon and then negotiate down from there.
• If they're going to call you a big government socialist, then you should grow a pair of balls and start governing like one. We've needed FDR and Obama has given us Herbert Hoover.

Cents and sensibility

There is a place, a place that every conservative politician, every teabagger, every Republican should hate. In this place they have strong labor unions that protect workers, high taxes that are used to pay for universal health care, and heavy regulation on business and industry. According to the conventional wisdom, which no conservative or teabagger or Republican really possesses, this place should have a floundering economy that's mired in permanent recession or worse. This place must be hell on earth. But instead, they love this place but they don't ever want to see it's success replicated over here.

What and where is this magical place you ask? Well, it's a country over in Europe and it's an economic powerhouse even though it has stringent regulation on business and industry, even though it has 'socialized medicine,' even though it's workers are overwhelmingly represented by unions and they get three more weeks of vacation that Americans do.

It's Germany.

That's right people, Germany. By all accounts what with the strong unions, the workers getting more time off than we've ever gotten in this country, the high taxes, the redistribution of wealth, the socialized medicine, and the stringent regulations on business and industry Germany should be a basket case. According to the right wing economic pundits and the Milton Friedman acolytes, Germany should be the little country that couldn't. But guess what? Not only is Germany surviving. it's thriving. And it's doing so because of the high regulations, the high taxes, the strong unions, the universal health care, and the numerous holidays it's citizens enjoy.

The reason why the global downturn hasn't hit Germany is simple, there is still demand in Germany for manufactured goods because German workers can afford them. And German workers can afford them because they have strong jobs, employment security, a strong social safety net, and a government that is forward thinking and creating alternative energy jobs. And also because of the fact that on all German, and most European, corporate boards workers have a voice because it's required by law that workers have a seat at the top table.

Germany is doing so well in fact that the buildings and the memorial monument being built at 'Ground Zero' in New York city are being built with steel imported from Germany. Imagine that, the Germans with their highly regulated industry that relies on 'expensive' alternative energy, high unionization, with their highly taxed workforce, can still export steel cheaper than it can be made in the USA.

So the next time you hear a teabagger, a right wing TV or radio pundit scream about unions, keep in mind Germany is one of the most highly unionized countries on earth and it's an economic powerhouse. When they say that fair and equitable taxes and socialized medicine will kill an economy, remember that Germany has high taxes and government run health care and it's the economic leader in the western hemisphere. When they tell you that regulation is strangling business and industry, tell them that Germany has much more regulation that we here in the USA do and that German companies lead the world.

For years they said that if you look closely at the design of a bumblebee it shouldn't be able to fly and yet it does. Well, now I'm telling you we can have a fairly taxed country that has single payer health care for all and one that regulates business and industry in the interests of the highly unionized people. And we actually had that country once, we had it starting in the aftermath of the Great Depression and we kept it going until we allowed Reagan to dismantle it starting in the 1980's. We can do this, we can learn from the successes of post war Germany and we can be great once more.

Riddle me this...

How can someone who hates poor people, wants to cut the minimum wage, and who wants to give wealthy people more tax cuts claim she knows what her god is thinking when he 'sends' natural disasters? If Michele Bachmann really truly believes that her Bible contains the absolute unvarnished word of her god, then did she miss the part about rich people not getting into heaven? Jesus said that it will be easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than it will be for a rich person to enter into the kingdom of heaven. So if she missed an important passage like that, how can she claim that the hurricane and the earthquake her god 'sent' is an anti spending message?

I used to be a believer in the cult of Christianity. I read their Bible. I went to church. I went to one of the most conservative, both politically and religiously, colleges in the USA, where I had to take four classes in Bible and religion. I was surrounded by 'Christians.' So I'm very familiar with the teaching of Jesus and the wishes and desires of his deranged father. So if anything, the message the god of the Christians is sending with the hurricane and the earthquake is that the Gospels are being perverted by capitalism. Jesus commanded us to feed, clothe, and love the poor. He didn't command us to cut taxes on the rich. He'd be pretty pissed about income inequality, not that corporations are being regulated too much. Their god is mad at them for not giving all of the citizens of this country medical and dental coverage, he's not mad that we don't have enough weapons to kill everyone on the face of the earth.

Jesus also said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "What ever you did to the poor, you did to me." And we all know what people like Michele Bachmann and her pals in the Christian Taliban have been doing to the poor since 1980. Yeah, my educated guess is that Jesus and his pop are pissed at the ass reaming the Republicans and Corporate Conserva-Dems have handing out since the days of St. Ronnie Reagan and they're finally doing something about it.

Hey boy, who are you calling lazy?

I'm sure you saw where one of Florida's US Senators said that we're all lazy because of Social Security and Medicare. He claims that people used to work harder and take better care of one another knowing that they had to provide for their own retirement. Crazy huh. Yeah, I thought so too.

First of all, since we all pay into the Social security system through our payroll taxes we are providing for our retirement. The money in the Social Security coffers doesn't magically appear, it comes from the hard work of millions of Americans. Although millions of other Americans don't pay in their fair share since Social Security taxes are only paid on the first (roughly) $106,000 of income, that means that people making over that amount don't pay any Social Security taxes on anything over the first $106,000. Which means that people making $50,000 a year pay a higher percentage of their income in Social security taxes than someone making $500,000 a year. Crazy huh. Yeah, I thought so too.

Secondly, I'm not lazy and neither are the hundreds of other millions of working class Americans who either paid into the system or are still paying into the system. I started working and paying Social Security taxes when I was 13. And I worked full time, with the exception of a few layoffs in the mid 1990's ever since, until I had my heart attack in 2004. I worked summers during high school, I work odd jobs during my college years, and when I left college in 1985, I went right to work, I didn't go onto grad school. Hell, I didn't want to go to grad school, I wanted to get out in the world and work. And work I did.

I worked a series of shit jobs that were physically and mentally demanding. I worked my way up through a convenience store system to become manager. I worked in a dinner theatre for tips. When I lived in Roanoke I worked two jobs to pay the bills and keep a roof over my head. I worked a a cement pipe factory doing some of the hardest work I have ever done in my life. When I hit my 30's I finally had a series of better paying jobs but I still worked my ass off. When I was in the truck tire business I not only had to handle the office end of the job, I had to stack and load truck tires that weighed over 200 lbs each. I would go home some days so weak and tired that I could barely lift my arms, but I kept at it. When I went into sales even though I wasn't doing as physically demanding a job I was still working hard. If you ever had to demonstrate a product or sell a disinterested person advertising or a cancer insurance policy, you know what I mean, who ever said sales was easy was a fucking liar.

I worked hard. Just like teachers, cops, firemen, waitresses, cooks, janitors, librarians, and other working class people. And just like them I paid my Social Security taxes in to the system. I paid them gladly at times and at others, when I was broke, I grumbled when I paid them. My money kept other going and deep down I was glad to help.

Then in 2004 I had a massive heart attack and once my cardiologist said that a return to work wasn't in the cards for me, I applied for Social Security Disability (SSDI). It took me over a year to get it and I had to hire an attorney to help me get what I had coming to me, which is a fucking travesty if you ask me. Some people who get SSDI at a youngish age say they feel guilty about getting it but not me. After all, I had paid into the system for over 30 years, I met the criteria for disability, and by gawd, I'm happy to get mine while I can. And you know what? Even though I don't pay Social Security taxes anymore I still pay into the system indirectly by helping to pay the wages of the employees of various businesses via my patronage.

So for this elitist creep from Florida to tell me I'm lazy, well he's full of shit. He's got no idea how hard I worked and how much I paid into the system. He sits on his ass and makes judgments about people while he sucks at the government teat. He doesn't pay Social Security taxes on his entire Senate salary, let alone whatever he steals, oops, earns outside of the US Senate.

Hey you hypocritical wet behind the ears junior Senator from Florida, kiss my working class ass. I'm not fucking lazy and neither are the millions of other Americans who pay Social Security taxes on their entire income. If you ask me, you're the fucking lazy one. You're the one who doesn't pay his fair share. You're the one who wants to shred what little is left of the social safety net so your cronies in big business can make more obscene profits. And I hope you're the one who goes belly up in the next financial panic. It would serve you right if you had to go out and actually work for a fucking change.

Republican Rep. Eric Cantor wants budget cuts to offset any money that's put aside for tornado victims, so here's a list of things we can cut to pay for the damage in Joplin, in Alabama, here in east TN, and in New England:

• cut all aid to Israel. Israel is doing fine, they don't need money from us anymore.
  
• cut all aid to Germany, Japan, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia.
• cut the defense budget in half. If we spend half of what we do now we'd still out spend any country on earth by far.
• cut all farm subsidies. We don't need to pay people to grow more corn when we've got a glut of it already and we sure as hell don't need to pay people to not grow crops.
• cut all corporate welfare. If we closed tax loopholes corporations use to get out of paying their fair share of taxes then we'd have plenty of money to pay for disasters.

There you go Mr. Cantor. Pick any one or more of those things and that should give us plenty of money to work with to help tornado victims. If you don't use my suggestions then you're just a craven coward who is grandstanding for the sake of teabaggers.

Things that will happen before Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Sarah Palin, or Michele Bachmann become President

• The earth will stop spinning.
• We will have marriage equality in the USA.
• The Cubs will win the World Series.
• The IMF will go broke.
• Christians will stop being hypocritical sanctimonious assholes.

• 'Birthers' and teabaggers will become sane rational people.
• Salma Hayek will bear my love child.
• Pigs will fly.
• Michelle Malkin will show the world her penis.

The Tories won big in last night's election in Canada. They'll form a majority government under the leadership of sleazy smug dickbag Stephen Harper, the man who makes George W. Bush seem almost human. Harper, seen here resting on his laurels after his party won well over the 155 seats needed to form a new government, will get back to work dismantling social services and letting his pals in business and industry rape what's left of Canada's natural resources.


Michael Ignatieff, leader of the Liberal Party and professional boredom dispenser,
took it on the chin as his party suffered one of the biggest defeats in the history of our neighbor to the north. I saw part of his concession speech and he vowed that his party would bounce back from this defeat, which is like saying that the bloated dead carcass of the raccoon in the middle of the road will one day get up and walk around again. He reminded the tens of people who stayed up to watch him speak that his party has suffered historic defeats in the past and they always came back. Then he went on to reveal the reason his party lost so many seats to the New Democratic Party(NDP) and that reason is, he moved the Liberal Party to the center, aka the mushy middle. Parties who aren't conservative win elections when they don't act like conservatives and they stay in power by not governing like conservatives. Ignatieff said that the Tories would move the country to the right and the NDP wanted to move the country to the left but his party under his leadership wanted to keep it in the center. How'd that strategy work out for you Mike? Not so good.

The Bloc Quebecois, the only group to rival Jews for Jesus in the annoyance department, got their asses handed to them. They lost over 40 seats. When I turned off the CBC election results, they looked like they were retaining anywhere from 3 to 5 seats. And bear in mind they only run in Quebec.

The big winners, aside from the Conservatives, in last night's election was the NDP. They picked up most all the seats the Bloc Quebecois lost and many in other ridings as well. And why wouldn't they? Look at their leader:

He's not only a dude who looks like he's ready to rumble, get drunk with you, and drive the get away car if you decide to hold up a liquor store, he's a leftist of the old school. He wants massive social spending to fix the fix Harper has gotten Canada into. He's the kind of politician we need in the USA, one who isn't afraid to say what's wrong and who isn't afraid to say just what he'll do to fix things. His party won big because they offered a stark telling contrast to the bullshit Harper is offering.

Hopefully Harper and his gang of sleaze ridden cronies won't fuck up too much stuff before manly Jack can take charge and fix what needs fixin' in our neighbor to the north.

The birthers still aren't satisfied. They now demand that Obama release the following things:

• The hounds.
• His tips for getting blood stains out of clothing.
• His plans for next Christmas.
• Some gas.
• The kraken.
• An Ellen of lesbians.
• His Muslim name.

First Lady Michelle Obama has joined forces with Dr. Jill Biden to start an organization that is dedicated to helping out military families in need. I'm waiting to see how long it will be till some right wing pundit or politician claims that military families don't need any help from the government.
