I feel sorry for you people who don't have dogwood trees where you live. They are spectacular when they bloom out in spring.

Chilly scenes of winter

The good news is it finally got above freezing here in Johnson City today. The bad news is we got his with snow, single digit temps, and freezing rain before it got above freezing. And it's not even officially winter yet.

The fading foliage on the mountains combined with the light of the setting sun made quite the sight tonight. I took the above photo on the steps outside my local library. You get kind of a good idea how eerie it looked from the photo but compared to the real thing, my picture didn't do it justice.

Speaking as someone who has lived in the south since 1974, I 'd never thought I see the day when people like bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley and NASCAR team owner Junior Johnson not only support a black man for President but they also cut commercials for him as well. Like they used to say in those Virginia Slims ads, we've come a long way baby.
