Who would Jesus pummel to death?

I hate the death penalty. It doesn't deter crime, if it did then we wouldn't have any more crime when you consider all the people we've put to death ever since the Supreme Court decided in the late 1970's that the death penalty isn't cruel or unusual punishment. And with as many people as the state of Texas has murdered in the name of justice, then the fucking lone star state ought to be the most crime free paradise on earth. But of course, it's not. And it never will be no matter how many people they kill down there.

So, having said how much I hate it, I do support death as punishment to one group of criminals and that group is people who murder and rape children.
And the case of the Christian couple who literally spanked their adopted child to death pisses me off more than anything. These idiots claim the god they can't see, which they profess to love, worship, and obey, wants them to brutalize, terrorize, and whip the child they can see because it pleases him. These fucking monsters, who I hope get beaten, raped, and murdered in jail, singled out a defenseless 7 year old girl for beating after beating because they thought it made their god happy. Once again, if that shit makes their god happy, then I'm ever so glad I don't believe in him or any other gods.

And please Christians, don't you fucking dare try to tell me that they aren't 'true Christians' because a 'true Christian' wouldn't do something like that. We all know that's bullshit. Time after time you people have shown yourselves to be the most violent, the most hateful, the most intolerant, the most awful people ever to walk this earth.

I grew up in an era when people spanked their kids. My mom spanked us, my siblings and I, and really, it didn't teach me anything except to lie and do whatever I could to avoid getting spanked again. The crazy aunt who I had to live with after my mother passed away spanked us. She and her husband both spanked, hit, threw things like pots and pans at us, and they got off on it. Aunt Rageholic got off on controlling others and making people bend to her twisted will. The only thing her violence against me and my siblings taught me was how to be more violent. And when the worst of her comes out in me, one can't live in environments like that and not be affected by it, I fucking hate it. I want to slink away and wash that awful part of my up bringing away forever. I hate what that woman, her husband, and her kids did to me and my siblings. See, they all claimed to be good Christians when they hit, spanked, and mentally abused us kids too.

These people who brutalized the little girl and her adopted siblings are scum, just like my dead aunt and her husband. The use their religion as a cover for their violent urges and desires. They deserve to have the full weight of the judicial system come down on them until they suffer like the child they killed suffered, until they feel what they put their adopted kids through. And honestly, the fact that these idiot Christians were able to adopt so many kids should have raised a red warning flag to someone, people like them don't adopt that many kids because they love them, they adopt that many kids because they want to exert control over them, just like my crazy dead aunt did.

Spanking doesn't work. The death penalty doesn't work. And as we've seen time and time again, Christianity doesn't work. In fact, judging by these child abusers, the Norway shooter, the jackals at Westboro Baptist, the homophobic hatemongers in churches everywhere, Christianity brings out the worst in people.

Every day they make me glad I'm an atheist. EVERY. FUCKING. DAY.

Packed with the devil

I dashed off the post most previous as a joke never thinking for a moment some televangelist would be so callous and idiotic to say something near what I joked they might. And then up steps Pat Robertson to the crazy bar and he didn't order just one beer from the bartender, he ordered the whole god damn keg.
According to Pat the folks in Haiti brought this on themselves because they made a pact with the devil to get free from the French, after which his god cursed them for doing so. It's a true story he says!, and it must be true because we all know a Christian minister wouldn't lie, wink wink. All sort of things crossed my tiny mind when I heard his pronouncement, I thought he's a whack job deserving of nothing but scorn and derision. Then I felt pity for him because he's so old and obviously senile. Then I thought, "Holy shit, what if he's right!?!"

Think about it. If he's right and the black folks of Haiti had to make a deal with the devil to get free then the blacks in this country must have made the same deal to gain their freedom from the whites. So that means they're cursed too, just like the Haitians are! It all makes sense now. Think more about it, the blacks get freed during the Civil war and they enjoy a few years of peace and take white folks jobs and their women, but then Pat Robertson's god invents Jim Crow and his anti black laws and the Negroes get cursed to be second, hell even third, class citizens in their own country. They have to spend years dealing with their curse in the form of not only overt racism, but institutional racism, that's racism that codified into law in case you didn't know, as well. They were cursed at the school house door and their kids couldn't get the same kind of fancy book learnin' the white kids got. They were cursed on the job front so they went and got into criminal occupations, drug dealing, whore mongering, welfare fraud etc. They were cursed by banks who wouldn't give them the same kinds of mortgages that white folks got so they huddled into the ghettos. They were cursed at the ballot box when they were denied the right to vote, even after they fought to defend this country in numerous wars.

But one day the Christian god finally heard their prayers and he let things like the voting rights act pass, and Brown v. Board of Education, and then things snowballed from there. They got all sorts of rights and blessings until one day all the racism and curses disappeared when Barack Obama was elected President in 2008. So basically from the late 1950's on it's been a cakewalk for blacks in the USA what with the Christian god lifting his curse of them and all.

But while that god was blessing the blacks in the USA he never forgot about those dirty black bastards in Haiti who made a deal with the devil to get free from the French in the 1700's. Those son of bitches didn't suck it up and act all Uncle Tom enough for his tastes so he waited for just the right time to smote those mostly Roman Catholic apostates. Sure he had piled poverty on them for many years and he allowed US and European multi national corporations to rape and abuse them, but all that and the corrupt political leaders who screwed over the Haitian people for years wasn't enough for this god of Pat Robertson's. So he hit them with an earthquake when they least suspected it. And not just any earthquake, this one that Pat Robertson's god hit them with was a 7.0 on the Richter scale earth quake. Those damn Haitians had to be taught the hard way. Tough love is a bitch my friends, especially at the hands of the god who allows baby killing, drug abuse, child porn, and the FOX News channel to flourish.

Hang on though. Let's back up a sec, shall we? Isn't Pat Robertson's god an all powerful god who created everything? Didn't he also create the devil? And he allowed the Haitians to make a deal with the devil he himself created? Holy fuckin' hell. That's one fucked up god. Either he hated the Haitians from day one or he hates it when black slaves go free. And if the latter is really the case then he's sure to smite the USA for freeing the slaves and in about 30 or 40 years he's gonna inflict some serious pain on the USA, if what he did in Haiti is any indicator.

Or maybe Pat Robertson is a hypocritical senile old hateful gas bag who is as full of shit as a Christmas goose. Yeah, that's it. It has to be it. Because if it's not and he's right then, we're all sinners at the mercy of a homicidal thrill seeking batshit crazy god.

Nineteen?

Nineteen gods? Holy shit, I've got a whole lot of blaspheming to catch up on if there are nineteen gods. Looks like my holiday season just got a lot busier gods damn it.

Dear Deluded Christian Troll,

I deleted your comment. You can feel free to evangelize anywhere you like, except on my blog.

And no, I am not curtailing or taking away your freedom of speech. You are free to speak what you like elsewhere. However you are not free to post comments telling me I am insane for not believing in the same delusion as you do. And no, I don't need to read the Bible more, I've read it from cover to cover during the years when I was deluded like you are. You see Troll, I was raised Roman Catholic and then I became a United Methodist and I went to a conservative religious Presbyterian college, so I know all the stories, I know all the stock answers you're going to throw at me as to why I should I believe like you. Been there, done that, and I don't buy any of it anymore. Don't assume my lack of belief is the result of not knowing about the Bible or Jesus or any of that, because I know all about it, I just don't believe in any of it.

Any more comments you put on my blog will be deleted as soon as I see them. It's not like you people don't have plenty of other places to spread your madness, you do, so go spread it elsewhere and stop infringing on my freedom of religion. You see Troll, my lack of belief is as protected by the first amendment as your delusional Christian beliefs are, I know that comes as a shock to you but it's true. You have the right to follow which ever Bronze Age fairy tale religion you choose and I have the right not to, and I also have the right to speak out about my lack of belief just as loudly as you proclaim your belief in whatever it is you believe in.

Seriously, trust me when I say that no amount of me mumbling to a deity who is not there is going to bring me back into your delusional fold, so stop wasting your time. I'm never going to believe in your Bible, your god, or his son. Ever. I'm never ever going to go to a church service. I'm never ever going persecute people for being homosexuals like you people do. I'm never ever going to be a part of your mass delusion.

Instead, I'm going to think for myself. I know you hate that kind of thing but honestly, it's what's best for me. But if it makes you feel better, your god told me it was okay for me to not believe in her, she's totally cool with it so you should be too.

God is good?

An acquaintance from high school who is now a 'friend' on Facebook left me this response to my Facebook post congratulating the Reich wing Christians for last week's verdict from the CA Supreme court and for causing the murder of that doctor in Kansas:

Here's a tip! If it's not good......it's not God! If it contains confusion.........it's not God! If it is not done with love...........it's not God! Jeus leaves nothing to wonder nor to question...........but, humans do. Humans do a lot of things 'in the name of God' but that doesn't mean God is in it. True Christians do not like some things that are being done in the name of Christ either. I assure you that a 'true Christian' did 'not' kill that man. They would pray for him. God is good.

Let me break down how wrong her statement is for you folks who don't have me on your Facebook friend list.

First of all if you buy into the premise that God created the heavens and the earth (which I don't), then you've got to accept that he created everything on the heavens and the earth. Everything includes sunshine, fluffy bunnies, wet nosed cute lil' puppies, brownies, sweaters, snow, swimming pools, trees, childhood cancers, birth defects, genocide, homophobes, drunk drivers, intolerant Christians, well meaning atheists, in short, if you believe in God the creator, then must believe that he created everything and not just the good things.

Second of all most of the colossally bad things that have taken place were done in the name of God and in order to bring Jesus to more people. Chief among those things would be slavery (sanctioned and condoned in the book of Bronze Age fairy tales we know as the Bible), subjugation of women, persecution of homosexuals, discrimination against blacks and others who are non white, and the murder of countless thousands of native peoples who had the gall to be born in a culture that had no truck with Jesus and his daddy.

Thirdly, Jesus and God left plenty to wonder and question. If they didn't then they would have told us long ago how to heal diseases and sickness. They would have told us how to build rockets sooner than we did so we could explore the universe. They would have told us how things work in the natural world without us having to find out ourselves. But they did not do those things. And they didn't for one reason and one reason only, they don't exist. We made up God and Jesus. Humans made it all up back when we had no idea how things worked. It was easy to say, "Oh, no worries. God made it all." But what was easy was not true. God didn't make it all. God is not behind everything. It's intellectually cowardly to claim otherwise. It's also, as history has showed us time and time again, dangerous and deadly to listen to people who claim to know the will of God and who tell us we must be meek and submit to them because only they know what's best. If we had listened to them then 99% of modern medicine would not have come about.

Fourthly, to claim that the killer of that doctor was not a 'true Christian' is nonsense. The man who is accused of killing that doctor is a Christian. He was a member of Operation Rescue, which is a Christian based anti abortion group. For someone to say that someone else is not a true Christian because they do things that other Christians would not do is utter nonsense. If you believe in God and if you believe that Jesus is his son and he came to earth to save us all, then you're a Christian. And that means even though you may not like or agree with people like Fred Phelps, or Jerry Fallwell, or Pat Robertson, or James Dobson, or people who murder in the name of God, you are still part of their sect and whether you like it or not they speak for your group of believers. Just as you lump me in with Hitler, Mao, and Stalin (all alleged atheists), you get lumped in with the worst of your belief group.

And finally, if God is so good why do we still have birth defects? Did those little babies displease God in the womb? Why do we still have racism? Does God favor one skin color over another? Why is there still genocide in the world? I thought God loved us all. And no, you Christians don't get to claim that the Devil is the cause of all the bad shit in the world, because you know what? God created him too if you believe the Bible and Christian tradition.

You know what really is good? Being kind to others. Not being judgmental, not killing, not stealing, not lying. Helping others when they need it regardless of their faith, skin color, gender, or the gender of which ever consenting adult they choose to love. Respecting the earth and all it's inhabitants is good. Living an ecologically sustainable life and reducing your footprint on our planet is good. God is something that we can't see, feel, or touch, but other people, plants, and animals are, be kind and loving towards them and that'll help out things more than praising something that is not there and that most of us can't agree on on anyway.

I'd be quite the catch but they won't chase me

Since I jumped into this whole Facebook thingy a bit more I've come back into contact with some old college friends. And just like in college they fall into two distinct groups, one group of them I partied and hung out with, the other I didn't. I've been exchanging emails and all sorts of memories with my old party pals but the folks I didn't party with I have hardly exchanged much with except for the cursory greeting and 'friend adding.'

The thing I find funny about all this that a couple of my old college friends have become ministers and as soon as they found out I was a card carrying atheist, and the card I carry is my library card, they stopped communicating with me. No more messages on my Facebook wall, no emails, nothing. I'm grateful they don't, but you'd think they try to save my soul or something. You'd think they at least be cordial on the off chance that I might turn to them to find out about the good news about Jeebus H Christ. But just like in college it turns out that the religious people only want to be be around others who think like them or who they think they can brainwash into thinking like them.

I'm glad I've reconnected with my old party buddies even though we live hundreds of miles apart. And as far as the god squadders who I've reconnected with, the way I feel about them is just about the same way I felt about them in college, which is to say, I can take them or leave them and mostly I leave them.

Oh, and I'm glad that I connected with some of my blog pals on Facebook because it helps me get to know you a little better and we share a different side of our selves on there. But if I don't return good karma, or throw more "snowballs," or pass you "drinks," then I apologize. I'm still a Facebook rookie and I don't spend enough time there to be all hip to the latest advances in Facebookism.
