How can you miss me if I never go away?

Our painter/fix it guy finished painting the room where I slave away on the internets for your enjoyment and edification earlier today so I'm back much sooner than I thought I would be. The dude kicked ass and did a great job, I'm telling anyone who is in the Tri Cities area if you need any work done let me know and I'll give you the guy's number, he's that good. Everything he's done so far has made Monkey Central look 1000% better.
That's my empty desk against some freshly painted walls. Gone are the black marks on the wall that I made by scraping my old chair against it. Gone are the smoke stains from countless Marlboro Lights smoked in the years before my heart attack. Gone are the many holes we drilled into the walls to hang pictures and or blinds and curtain rods. It seems a shame to put anything back in a clean pristine room, but do it I must for Sparky doesn't want our books and CD's stacked on top of the dressers in our bedroom.

Funny thing this, when I was putting the electronics back in here I put the modem power cord on my computer speakers and then I tried to connect the speakers power cord to the modem and it didn't fit. I was convinced I had vacuumed up some sort of adapter so I went to Circuit City to see their modems fresh in the box. I learned then that I was trying to connect the wrong power cord thingy to my modem and I also learned that Motorola modems, the very same ones that my cable company has been charging me $6 a month to rent from them, had fallen in price, they used to be $69 and change but today they were $39 and change. So I bought a new modem and hooked it up when I got back. I'll be taking the cable company's modem to the local office tomorrow and giving it back to them, then I'll point out that they can no longer charge me rent because I now own my modem. Boo ya. My fuck up ended up saving me money. Crazy huh.

The other big development of the day was I found a great new green and white striped polo shirt at K Mart for $10 bucks and so I bought it. Oh wait, that's not the other big development.

The other big development was that Barack Obama chose to come to near where I live to make his first public appearance since clinching the nomination. He was in Bristol, VA, which is 20 miles from our place, this afternoon. I could not attend in person due to the house stuff but I did manage to catch him on TV and I took a photo of him. How often has a newly minted Democratic Presidential nominee chosen one of the Tri Cities as the first city he appears in after clinching the nomination? Hmm, let me think, let me think...Oh now I got it. Just one. Barack Obama. That's it. How cool is that? Very fucking cool.

Actually I have a theory as to why he did it. He wants to subtly let everyone know that he is dope with the "Whiskeymarie/Dr. Monkey Axis of Kick Ass Bitchin' Bloggers." He delivered his historic nomination clinching speech in St. Paul just a few blocks from where Ms. Von Partypants works and lives, then he comes to my backyard to give his first speech after clinching. It's almost touching how he wants to stay close to those bloggers who he clearly loves and whose support he obviously covets.

To be fair I think Bush McCain once flushed the toilet on his wife's private jet as it flew over our neighborhood one day.

I had a dream

Whew! I had a crazy dream the other night I want to tell all of you about. I dreamt that Splotchy had somehow stole my running mate away from me.

As the dream started out I was not the fully developed last of the full grown monkeys that I am today, no, I was a small simian once again, yet I had all the intelligence that I possess today.
My mother was making me take a bath in what appeared to be holy water. As soon as I got into the holy water bath it changed and I changed as well. I became 100 % monkey and I stopped being the monkey/human hybrid that I normally am. The bath water and bath tub changed into the Ganges and a waiter from Sitar, a locally owned Indian restaurant here in Johnson City, was ferrying me across the holy river.Once we got to the other side he morphed into a hot Latino chick and I became Jesus on the cross. I didn't mind so much because I had such a great view. But then things turned nasty. I heard a voice taunting me. It was saying things like, "Nah nah nah, I'm gonna steal your running mate. Monkey/Love in 2008 is kaput! All power to the concrete and pipe cadres!"I shook my head to get the foul sound of the voice out of my ears and suddenly I was with my running mate Kristi on top of a mountain. And there in front of us was the iSpoltchy and he was taunting me. "Monkey lunky, I'm sending you to hell and I'm taking Kristi to the place I know to be heaven, Applebee's!" The iSplotchy then leapt up and smacked me in the head and I passed out. When I woke up I was in some strange world where people wore Crunky instead of holding it.
In this bizarre world the Flying Wallendas were the Tumbling Wallendas.
And I noticed something else strange,
I had one ball, not two in this dreamworld.

But as quickly as you can recite the Gettysburg Address I was picked up by Whiskey Marie in her chariot of the gods that was pulled by the rhino of indifference. We pillaged and wreaked havoc for a bit but then my cell phone started ringing. It turned out my lovely running mate Trinity/Kristi Love had found a good connection and she got me out of that dream world. Then I woke up. It was one crazy dream.
Later at one of our late night strategy meetings I told Kristi all about my crazy dream. We laughed and she assured me that there was no way that Splotchy could ever steal her from me. We had a good laugh, a good cuddle, oops, I mean we had another good laugh about it and then we released a statement to the press.
Satisfied that everything was hunky dory in our campaign Kristi and I shared a private make out, shit, I mean, another private strategy session as we watched the sun go down. I was happy that my crazy dream was just that, a crazy dream. Or was it??????

Big Weiners

I'm ending the "Get a Postcard From Dr. Monkey" contest early because it's my contest and not yours, so there, nah nah nah. The winners are:

  • Long time commenter and first time reader Austin J. of Johnson City wins a postcard because he read the rules and he sent me an email. His reason was flimsy but since he followed the rules and since he lives here in my city I decided to make him a winner.
  • Whiskey Marie wins a postcard because she promised to act out the theme of the card that she gets and that means pictures! Pictures of her doing crazy funny stuff! Oh how I look forward to see those photos.
  • A guy in Nebraska with the same name as me wins a postcard because I love screwing with people. Techincally Quaker Vixen Suzy won this card but she and her husband tell me they are trying to pare down their possessions so I decided to send her card out to a guy with my name. I picked Nebraska because people there need some excitement from time to time and what could be more exciting than getting a post card from some one you don't know.

Thanks to the two of you who entered correctly and to the rest of you for playing along. Look for more contests some time. Maybe.

I've said it before but I must say it again

This chick is a genius and if she doesn't get one of those MacArthur Genius grants soon then there is no justice in the world.

A salute to Sean

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, let me introduce you to my friend Sean C. Sean is truly a great guy. I met him when I lived in Knoxville TN when I was a working stiff and he was a student at the University of TN studying archaeology. Sean used to come see our improv group, who's name I shall not mention because they have gone down hill a bit since losing me and some other key members (sorry boys but it's true, I've seen the clips on You Tube and things are not going well for you these days), and he came to see us not just once or twice but every freaking week almost.

Sean was a great improv audience member, he even hosted the show one night when most of us were out sick. He would come each week and give us great suggestions for locations, relationships, and famous or historical names that we could use and build scene around. If you've ever seen a short form improv group do their stuff then you know that they need a ton of good audience suggestions to do a really great show. If you've ever been a member of a short form improv group then you know how frustrating it is to hear the same 5 to 10 lame ass suggestions shouted at you by drunken rubes night after night. Sean understood that if he wanted to see us bring our "A game" then he had to give us great suggestions, which he always did. One night I asked the audience to name a historical figure and most of them shouted things like "Bush!" or "Dubya!" or "Rush Limbaugh!" But not our Sean, oh no, he shouted out "Oliver Cromwell!" Bam! I took his suggestion and we played the game and it rocked.

All good things come to an end eventually and Sean graduated and got a job with a firm in New Orleans and he moved away. Not too long after that I had my heart attack and I quit doing improv. Sean and I kept in touch via an email thing I used to do, every week I'd send out a list of things that either pissed me off or made me laugh or whatever and I'd add a trivia question that the folks on my list could answer or I'd tell them to send in a haiku based on something or another and the best responses would get a prize, which was usually something I'd buy at the dollar store or a copy of something that made no sense at all. Sean won a time or two and I sent him something stupid and he probably put it with the shitty painting I gave him years ago. (How crappy was the painting I gave him? Let's put it this way, his apartment in Knoxville got robbed one night and they took everything except the painting I did for him.)

Eventually I got sick of doing the email list/trivia/haiku thingy and I stopped. But not too long after that I started this blog and it turns out my old buddy Sean in New Orleans, and yes he lived there before, during, and after Katrina, reads it. He even started commenting lately too. But the thing I am most grateful for, besides his friendship and all those great suggestions years ago during improv nights is that he sent me an email a few days ago telling me about a blog he thought I might like.

I took his advice and checked it out and I was stunned, amused, and hooked instantly. What was the blog in question you ask? Why it's a blog by a gal in Minnesota who calls herself Whiskeymarie. Meet the fabulous Whiskymarie:

Sorry boys and girls, she's spoken for but who wouldn't love a chick who describes herself like this: Socially retarded. Easily confused. Big hands. Entirely inappropriate. Snappy dresser. Monkey lover. Often intoxicated. Occasionally angry. Snorts while laughing. Can't whistle. Hates socks.

She had me at Socially retarded, but she hooked me forever with Monkey lover. Check her out here.

I just wanted the world to know of your greatness Sean and thanks ever so much for sending me the link to my new monkey pal Whiskeymarie's blog.

Oh, I would be remiss if I did not mention that as far as I know ladies, Sean is available.
