Choice

When this woman's teenage child decides to keep her unplanned pregnancy it's hailed as a "brave choice."

But when women who look like thishave unplanned pregnancies they are called scum who just want to have babies so they can stay in this country.

I might be wrong but I thought the whole deal with the Bush McCain sex ed thing was to stop kids from having sex. Maybe Bristol Palin did follow their rules and one day she was sitting around nude with her legs open and her baby daddy walked by, saw her, and he flung the contents of his emergency semen vial at her virginal vagina. Yeah, that would explain everything. That's what happened.

I just hope Bristol doesn't hate America so much that she and her new baby want to leave it like her mother does. I hope that Bristol and her baby don't join the Alaska secessionist movement and the NRA like her mother did, because if she did then she'd be a gun nut who puts her own narrow selfish interests over those of this country.

This whole Palin pick just keeps getting better and better. Anyone want to give me odds how long she's going to last as Bush McCain's veep?

It's also said they have babies for the free health care AND so they can become Welfare Queens. Thanks Ronald Reagan!

She'll be gone this week is my guess. She's getting too much attention of the bad sort. Way to throw Britol under the bus.

What was she thinking taking the VP offer with all the baggage she has?

Sarah Palin isn't looking like a very good mother at all, about now.

A most peculiar choice. Maybe it's meant to draw lots and lots of attention away from the other guy

As soon as I saw her, I wanted to read your post... I'm not disappointed.

One pundit said about the kid being 17 and pregnant isn't a big deal because "Alaska is dangerous" so it makes sense to have children early. Sounds kind of like Darwin and evolution to me...which you know, the GOP doesn't believe in.

I'm afraid she's going to go all the way. All the way to the White House with old Bush McCain. All the way to the Supreme Court, where she'll dismantle my right to choose. This is my worst nightmare.

You want odds? I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that the foreign press is having a wonderful time with this whole freak show.

I don't give a flying "semen vial" what politicians' children are doing. I truly believe that politicians' private lives should not be pried into, unless of course, they are violating some law. Of course, there SHOULD be a law against hypocrisy...

conspiracy theory

palin did her job -- dampened the obama speech. no other choice would have

palin is gone with in a week
"personal reasons' - besides what is person (i use person) with a pregnant daughter at 16 and a special needs child doing running for a job that requires 80-100 hour weeks (unless you are a Bush)

mcshithead gets lieberman to shore up the mah jongg vote in florida

this is so comical it is actually BETTER than the movie Juno

How can they shift gears at this stage of the game? I mean, I'm no expert on US politics (understatement of the century) but, isn't it just suicide to choose someone and then give her up 3 minutes later? Doesn't that weaken the overall cause? What I cannot believe is that they would have taken her on as running mate if they'd known of the pregnancy. That seems so risky-stupid.

Gee, it didn't take long to have some serious shit hit the fan, eh?

As for the foreign press having a field day...Not in Canada.

It's a ridiculous situation, and I feel for the daughter. I didn't know Palin's baby has Downs, but it does seem kind of inhumane to take on this political role with a family with such...um...needs...

K. Line in my entire lifetime that has been the case. I think even selecting her in the first place was political suicide, and especially UNVETTED. Turns out she's involved in at least 2 major scandals (Troopergate & support of the uber-corrupt Ted Stevens) and then there's this daughter/baby thing.

The GOP won't recover unless the fix is in. I wouldn't worry.

I believe all the chatter you see in support of McLAME is desperation. It'll die down.

Wandering Coyote, this mom threw her 17 year old daughter under the bus. She took the VP offer KNOWING that she had an underage, unwed pregnant daughter. Don't you think she knew what would happen when it got out? The blame lies squarely in bad mama's court. Her political ambition won out over her daughter's safety and reputation.

OK - what the hell does GOP stand for????

Helen: Oh, I totally agree! It's a ridiculous situation. If she couldn't see where this would go when it came out, then she's totally blind and stupid. I feel bad for that kid, though, and I feel bad for the Down's baby, too.

It stands for Grand Old Party and it's an alternative acronym for republican party. However, I rather think nowadays it stands for Gross Old Perverts or Grab Oil Party or a million other things...

Anyone else think that perhaps McCain just wanted to be the GOP candidate but doesn't really want to win??? There's a hell of a mess for the next POTUS to clean up, and perhaps he doesn't want the responsibility, just his day in the sun.

I think McCain got the Palin bump, the fundies got a bone and add your own bone joke. I think she will make it through the convention and then back out "to spend more time with family."

Since she has to use her position to manage her family affairs (especially the in-laws) and her immediate family is in such a mess, it wouldn't even be a lie to say it this time.

sleestak's comment reminded me of the Alaska/Russia thing-so I guess her 17 yr old having a baby will qualify Palin for what next? Pediatrics? Preschool Teacher?

Interesting reading at the SWOT analysis on:

Andrewhalco.com

He was the Democratic candidate running against her in the last election.

His statement was never underestimate her natural charisma...we may have a very dangerous lady here folks...

I agree with Helenwheels. She knew her daughter was unwed and pregnant and that by running for veep she would expose this girl's position to the world, but that didn't stop this opportunist mom for a second. Motherly love we can't believe in!

One of two things may happen, we may hear the girl had a problem and lost the baby which will stir up heavy emotion and sympathy or Sarah may decide/be forced to say her family needs her now and drop off the ticket.

I think they'll keep her.

I'm confused- isn't an 18 year-old having sex with a 17 year-old considered statutory rape?

I guess we're just ignoring that fact this time, Ms. Palin?

Alaska's law is a tad different. He didn't break any law, apparently... 16 is the age of consent with parental approval or something goofy like that. They were discussing it at Sadly, No.

In the GOP mind it's okay if kids have unprotected premarital sex as long as they have Jesus in their hearts and English is their primary language.
