Did we expect anything less?

The corporate police had the only non corporate media person arrested at the Republican Hate Gathering, I mean convention.

Free Amy Goodman!

The peaceful protest was just that, and Amy Goodman did nothing to warrant an arrest. However there was a group of young men who turned the march violent by breaking windows and I lay partial blame at their feet. Let me have it, but I see absolutely no correlation between senseless destruction of property and the message of the peace and justice movement.

What d.debil said. They're droogs out looking for a bit of the ultraviolence, and those assholes make it a lot easier for the administration's thugs to jump on legitimate journalists and peaceful protesters, painting everyone with the same brush.

I listened to Amy Goodman on Thom Hartman this morning. She's being charged with a misdemeanor, while two of her producers are being charged with participating in a riot, a felony charge.

The term "Anarchist" describes subscriber of a particular political belief (which was still legal the last time I checked), and anarchists are not violent by definition. Remember the WTO conferences where federal agents dressed in black started the rioting which was blamed on "Anarchists"? Could that possibly be happening in St. Paul?

I agree with Ed. I am immediately suspicious whenever an "ist" label is applied, especially when it is used to justify police brutality. The trick of having people dress up as "anarchists" and riot has been used at every G8 conference too.

I would bet that true anarchists do not go around in black saying, "I am an anarchist."

Whoever they were, they distracted the press from a long, lengthy peaceful march filled with thousands of people, including vets, moms, dads, kids, blacks, whites, hispanics. Now the press is labeling anyone involved as a "protester". Quite a large sweeping paintbrush. So mission accomplished I guess.

I also suspect that the mainstream press wants to be distracted. There have been anti-war marches involving millions of people that have simply been ignored. This is no different from any other big protest of the last dozen or so years. Police brutality has become the norm.Ian Welsh at Firedoglake had a good post about it here:http://firedoglake.com/2008/09/03/the-deeply-broken-american-police-system/#more-31303

sometimes I wonder if those people breaking windows, lighting fires during protests are paid by police/authorities to do just that-therefore blighting the cause of the protest. makes you wonder.

What the hell did Amy do wrong?!
