Re-captioned New Yorker Cartoon #12

'Your honor, this couple stands accused of going into a Wal-Mart and not buying anything. They also did not stop at the Starbucks in the lobby to buy a cup of coffee on their way up here. I recommend you throw the book at these anti corporate terrorists!"

(This cartoon originally appeared in the 9-22-86 issue of the New Yorker.)

from 1986? That was insightful as hell.

You forgot the charges of buying books at locally owned book shops instead of Barnes and Noble, or (GASP!) buying them used.

Doctor Monkey, why do you hate America?

I bet they got deported, didn't they? UnAmerican they are.

I do not step foot inside Walmart. I have sworn off Starbucks and instead frequent locally owned coffee shops.

I am, however, addicted to Target. And Dr. Monkey.

Excellent.

I guess I'm a Anti-Consumer Terrorist since I support The Christmas Resistance!

I can't remember the last time I was in Wal-Mart. It's been years.

Not surprising how many Walmart boycotters there are here, but I'll add my name to the list.

Just remember--when Chimpy tells you to shop, it's because he CARES!

I too am a Wal-Mart boycott participant. Target however I love and can't stay away. I also avoid Starbucks and frequent local places.

I am guilty as charged.

Meanwhile, I live in Mpls where Target is based (and funds like everything) so I think of it as a HUGE local business!
