Well played Mr. President

Obama is an evil genius, he's brainwashed two thirds of the doctors in this country and turned them into damn dirty socialists.

Where was the outrage?

Right wingers, including Laura Ingraham's pal Megan McCain, are outraged over President Obama going on the Tonight Show and for having the gall to publicly make his NCAA picks known. Ummm, excuse me folks, but where was your outrage when Bush was crawling around on the floor of the oval office while pretending to look for Saddam Hussein's WMD's while America's sons and daughters were dying over in Iraq? Where was the outrage when Bush spent three or four weeks at a time on vacation while the country sank into recession? Where was the outrage when Bush jetted off to Beijing to slap those skinny skanky beach volleyball chicks asses?

As was pointed out on Countdown last night, just because his predecessor could only do one thing at a time, when he found time in between mocking the deaths of our servicemen and women and his numerous vacations, that doesn't mean President Obama is the same way. You see rightwingers, that's one of the differences between Bush and Obama, Obama is smart enough to multi task and Bush wasn't. Bush has adult ADD, Obama doesn't.

Save your phony outrage for the budget bill and for when team Obama rolls back the Bush tax cuts. And go ahead and bank a good bit of that phony outrage for 2010 when Republicans get their asses kicked for the third election cycle in a row.

President Obama is getting all sexist on us again. When will he learn to stop beating women in the polls?

Wasn't it nice to see a Presidential address where Dick Cheney wasn't sitting behind the President and sneering at us all?


Wasn't it nice to hear a Presidential address that was concise and clear?


Wasn't it nice to watch Bobby Jindal flail about as he tried to follow President Obama? Ok, you got me, I admit I didn't watch Jindal for that long. I got 30 seconds into it and it started making me ill so I turned the channel. But I heard later that he was so bad that even the FOX Noise talking heads said he was pretty bad. Jindal/Palin in 2012!

Just a little reminder

President Obama has kept the USA safe for 2 weeks now.
And his appointees to the Department of Justice are actually going to enforce the laws instead of covering up for those who break them.

My advice, Mr. President, is to:

Stop.

Stop trying to work with the Congressional Republicans on the stimulus package. Their leader Rush Limbo has already given his party members their marching orders and those orders are to make sure you fail. They voted en masse against your package even after you put things in it to appease them. They have shown that they have no interest in working with you, moving our economy and our country forward, or doing what's best for the highest amount of people so my advice to you is to stop placating them and move on.

Also sir, stop with the tax cut nonsense. Tax cuts never work and they do not stimulate anything. They take money out of the federal treasury at a time when we need all the cash we can get. If I were you, instead of cutting taxes, I'd raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans and on big American corporations who are sending jobs over seas.

We, liberals and progressives, won the past two elections so let's grow a pair and start governing with our interests in mind instead of the conservatives. They had their chance and they failed because conservatism doesn't work for the vast majority of the people in this country, but progressivism damn sure does and it's our country's last best hope of returning to greatness after the debacle of the Bush years.

Please get on with the business of being a progressive President and let's bring an end to the war of terror on Iraq, get health care or at least Medicare for all Americans, let's rebuild our infrastructure, and let's stop asking for help from the people who got us into this mess in the first place. Tax cutters, deregulators, and the greed of big business got us into this mess and only a big juicy Presidential stimulus package can get us out of it.

Sunshine patriots

While flipping through the cable channels one night a few years ago I came upon Bill O'Reilly's show for a moment. He and Dennis Miller were bleating some nonsense designed to whip up the meth addicted rubes and the anti immigration nut jobs who polish their guns as soon as they get off work and get back to their trailers. I remember that Miller was saying something to the effect of, "We're in a war Cha Cha and we all damn well better support the President in this thing." Bill O screamed something and then Miller shot back, "Ya know what Billy? I'm supporting the President during war. I don't care if the President is George W. Bush or Hillary Clinton, I'm standing behind the President because I'm a good American like that." Then he made a reference to Kaiser Wilhelm, Polynesian fire dancers, and the Department of Agriculture. His reference, like most of his shtick, was inane and idiotic so I turned it. But that brief exchange stuck in my mind because I knew then that a Democrat was going to win the White House and I hoped that Dennis and his fellow travellers on the right would actually follow through on supporting a Democratic Party President during this time of "war."

Well, after a couple of days I see that they're not going to do what Miller said they should do. The fat drug addict Limbaugh says that he hopes Obama fails. I'm not sure what excuse Miller is going to give for not backing our new Commander in Chief and I doubt I'll ever know it because I don't watch Bill O's show.

And the little people who the big guns in conservative media say they speak for sure as hell aren't supporting our President in this time of war. Case in point, an old college acquaintance of mine. Long time readers of my blog will remember that I went to a small conservative Christian college. And the so called Reagan revolution was going on when I was in school. My college was conservative religiously and politically. If you had scratched some of those right wingers I went to college with you would have found Nazi's underneath.

Well I reconnected with a gal I went to college with on Facebook recently and after I put up a note on inauguration day that said I hoped Bush and Cheney would be tried for their war crimes she commented back that the Bush bashing should stop and that the faulty intelligence that led us to war was the fault of Bill Clinton, who according to her looked the other way in the hunt for Bin Laden, and not George W. Bush. I was amazed, but not surprised, that she was laying the fiasco known as the war of terror on Iraq at the feet of Bill Clinton.

My good friend Vikkitikkitavi proceeded to educate my poor misinformed old college acquaintance. When confronted with the facts, which are always pesky problematic things to a conservative, my college acquaintance became shriller in her defense of her position and her man George W. Bush. I jumped in and tried to mollify and educate the poor girl but alas she was having none of it. In some of her early comments she said that the inauguration showed that America was a great democracy and that she was proud Obama had just been sworn in but a few comments later she said something to the effect of, "Ya'll should be happy, you got your President and change is a comin'!" I wanted to remind her that we all got a new President and that while I may not agree with everything he says or does, he is the President of all the people of this country and he's going to work for all the people, not just church going, gun owning, easily manipulated intellectually bankrupt hicks like her and her family. But as I was writing up a stinging reply to her last comment I remembered that trying to educate a misguided conservative is as big a waste of time as trying to teach a pig to sing is. Pigs can't sing no matter how hard you try to make them and conservatives never learn no matter how many facts you put in front of them.

So it's like I thought it was going to be, Dennis Miller, Bill O, Sean Hannity, Mike Malkin, Mann Coulter, and Laura C. from King College have no intention of supporting our new President in a time of war, even though they insisted that we support the idiot who took us to Iraq based on faulty intelligence that he had fabricated to support his case for war. The folks on the right are patriots when one of theirs is leading the country but when a Democrat is in charge they can't be bothered to support him.

Now that Obama is President...

When do the Muslim terrorists take over?
When does American business fall to it's knees?
When does government get in people's way like Sarah Palin told us it would?
When does all the wealth get redistributed?

How do I help round up all the pregnant women so that they can have the abortions they've always dreamed about?

How quickly can we start blaming Bill Clinton for the mess Obama just inherited?
When will Keith Olbermann become head of the FCC?

Someone please get back to me on those burning question ASAP. In the mean time while I wait for the answers I'm going to burn some American flags and persecute some Baptists. Yee haa! I love having a Marxist President!

Dolls and bread we can believe in

Sparky had a snow day today, her office was closed due to the snow and cold so she decided to bake some bread. She made the dough and it rose as we watched Barack Obama become our 44th President. After the dough was risen and Obama was sworn in and gave his speech, she made this in honor of this historic day:
Mmmmmm, fresh baked bread we can believe in. Oh happy day!

This one's for you, where ever you are

Barack Obama's inauguration today is too huge to let him and him alone have it. It belongs to each and every American and to history. So, since part of it is mine then I'd like to dedicate it to the following people:

• The late Alan Quinn. Alan was a tire salesman who worked at White's Truck Tires when I worked there. He was the type of salesman who cast aspersions on his competitors, ran down anyone who disagreed with him, and acted like he was the only one in the world who knew anything about sales and tires. He was a misogynist and a racist of the first order. Once when he was recruiting a guy to come to work for us he showed the recruit a brochure and he proudly stated, "See, look a there, they ain't a black face in the bunch." Alan was a staunch Republican, adulterer, and liar. He's dead now. His karma caught up with him at the age of 49. When he went in the hospital for surgery to repair a slipped disc they found out he had cancer and he was dead 4 months later.
• The late Paul Steele. He was my crazy aunt's third or fourth husband. He was a hardcore racist from day one. He refused to volunteer to fight in the Korean War because he was afraid he might have to take orders from a black man. He would complain bitterly that blacks had taken over "pro ball." He lived a long life full of hatred for people who had a different skin color than he did. And for good measure he also hated young people, gays, and hippies as well.

I wish there were some way I could contact those two dead racist assholes so that I could make them watch a black man become President of the United States.

I'd also like to dedicate the inauguration of Barack Obama to the following nice people:

• My first best friend Aaron Lewis's mother. Mrs. Lewis was a hard working black woman who worked two, sometimes three jobs to keep a roof over her family's head and to put food on their table. If she's still alive I hope she's enjoying seeing all the fuss and pageantry surrounding Obama. I lost touch with Aaron many years ago when I moved out of Detroit after my mom died and I want to dedicate this historic event to him as well.
• My parents. Both Mom and Dad instilled in me from a very young age the fact that all people are equal and that just because someone has a different color skin than I do that doesn't make them bad or a lesser person than me. Like a lot of kids who were born in the early '60's I sometimes repeated the 'N' word and when they heard me use it they'd often give me a smack in the mouth and tell me to never say that word again. And when I got done crying they'd tell me that saying that word was bad because it was demeaning to them and it made me look like a bigoted idiot when I said it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I never thought this, a black man becoming President, would happen in my lifetime. It's a pleasure to be witnessing positive history being made after so many years of Bush's blundering. Obama and the rest of us have a lot of problems facing us and I hope we can come together and reclaim the promise of America that Bush and Cheney stole from us. Let's celebrate on this historic day and then tomorrow let's roll up our sleeves and get to work.

My snow prayers were finally answered

The bitter cold left the area over the past few days and snow has moved in. That's right kids, we finally had a measurable snow fall here in my fair city. This was the view out our front door this morning:

But thankfully even though we had about two inches of snow the roads were only a bit slushy and I got out to the pharmacy and to the grocery store where I procured not only milk but also a 12 pack of Beck's and some other things.

With the snow came strange visitors. Here's a couple pictures of them:

I made neither of those because I was far too busy with more important endeavors such as reading your blogs, playing spades on Yahoo, and shoveling the driveway and sidewalk. Sparky, who had the day off in observance of the MLK holiday, hates the cold, she complains when the temperature outside drops below 70, and she hates the snow but I managed to get her out for an invigorating walk in the weather earlier this afternoon. Some of the sights we saw were these:

The snow continues to fall and we may get another inch out of it which will mean that all the schools around here will be closed tomorrow and that means that the school children can watch the Bush era end with a whimper and the Obama era begin with a huge sigh of relief. I know I'll break my rule against watching day time TV through the week and I'll keep my TV tuned to Obama's historic inauguration. Hopefully the snow will continue to fall as a competent adult finally takes the reins of power.

Back in August my friend Keith and his family drove across the country to be in Denver for a few days right before the Democratic party convention started. While he was out there he picked me up a cool poster and I finally got it framed and hung in my office.
As you can see, it looks smashing. Thanks Keith!

My year end political wrap up

The big political news this year was obviously Barack Obama's historic victory. I didn't support Obama in the beginning but I was behind him one hundred percent in the end because the choice was to move forward with the smart black guy or stay anchored in this conservative Republican hell we're in right now. I rejoiced along with millions of others when Obama crushed doddering old John "I tried to sell my soul to the right wing of my party but they weren't buying it" McCain on election day. And like a lot of you I am not comfortable with some of his cabinet choices, Vilsack as Sec. of Agriculture for one and Hillary as Sec. of State for another, I think she'd make a much better Attorney General and I think she'll be way too hawkish as Sec. of State. I'm also disappointed that he is letting that anti science homophobic preacher Prick Warren deliver his invocation. But when I step back and think about it all I have to recall the wise words of one of my favorite bloggers, Vikkitikkitavi, who says that politicians will always break your heart, that's what they do because they aren't interested in pleasing you, they are only interested in getting re-elected.

In the end it's Obama's cabinet and not mine, it's his inauguration not mine and he can pick and choose who the hell he wants and I can always bitch about it on my blog.

The other big Obama news item for me this year was the shocking discovery that he was responsible for all the misogyny and sexism in the world. How did I find that out? Why the lovely ladies and gents who founded this short lived political/bowel movement told me so:Granted, I do not live in a "battleground" state so I did not see a lot of the back and forth ads that Hillary and Obama ran during the primaries so I really can't comment on the tone or content of those ads, but evidently all the ads that Obama ran pretty much said that Hillary should not be elected because she was a woman. And then all his pals in the media, you remember them don't you, they're the same ones who manufactured all this economic meltdown business so that their boy would win the Presidency, just jumped on that bandwagon and they beat up Hillary for being a woman as well.

The only problem with all of that is this: some of the PUMA people said that Obama was sexist because he did not demand the media stop their sexist teatment of Hillary. So according to that logic all the media sexism was Obama's fault. Which makes about as much sense as saying that the deaths in Rwanda while Bill Clinton was President was Hillary's fault because she didn't stop them even though it was her husband who was President.

So then the PUMA's went on to decry everything Obama said or did during his life after he won, or according to them, stole, the nomination. They pounced on Rev. Wright, who Obama denounced and distanced himself from, they brought up Bill Ayers, they howled when he talked about bankrupting utilities who wanted to build more coal powered plants, and most of them did the most treasonous thing of all, they supported McCain/Palin.

Now for them to throw their support behind the Republican ticket was perhaps the biggest slap in Hillary's face they could have ever given their one time glamour girl and heroine. There they were, McCain/Palin, out there on the hustings railing against everything Hillary had ever supported or worked for, equal pay for equal work, national health care for all, ending the war in Iraq, and all the other issues. It made perfect sense to them, oppose all the things their candidate wanted because they did not like the party standard bearer. They were perfectly willing to throw generations of women and their hard work in making this country a more equal place for the sexes under the bus just because they did not get their way in the nomination process.

They also held up Sarah Palin as a standard bearer for all women to look up to, even though she was diametrically opposed to all the positions Hillary ever stood and or fought for. They said that she was more than qualified to be Vice President and then Commander in Chief if something happened to McCain, after all she ran a town in Alaska and then the entire state of Alaska. And the PUMA's shrilly cried out that anyone who disagreed with their assessment of Caribou Barbie was sexist, just like anyone who didn't support Hillary was sexist. They snickered and guffawed when asked if Obama had any chance against a "war hero" and a woman with "executive experience." Then on election day they got their whiny asses handed to them.

Yo, PUMA's, we had a name for you people when we were kids. And that name is 'sore loser.' In 1992 I supported Tom Harkin of Iowa in the first primaries because he was a fire breathing liberal but when it became apparent that Clinton was going to be the nominee I sucked it up and I supported him 100% percent. When this last race started I backed Dennis Kucinich hard because his positions on the issues mirror my own but when it clear that he had no chance of winning and that most of the party was coalescing around Obama, I was all in, as they say on the horrendous poker television shows. But the PUMA's showed their political immaturity by refusing to support the nominee of the party. And they say they won't be back, well good. Don't ever come back, we don't need or want whiny sore losers like you in our party.And finally as the year and yet another Bush crime family Presidency come to a merciful end, people like Laura "It's 5 o'clock somewhere in the world" Bush and Karl Rove are trying like hell to convince people that the Bush/Cheney years weren't an epic failure. But we all know that they were. Bush squandered the budget surplus, took us into two disastrous wars, stole our civil liberties, defanged all the US government regulatory agencies he could, and he presided over the worst economic melt down in over 80 years. If you're worse off today than you were 8 years ago, then I'd say Bush has been a failure. If you lost your son or daughter, mom or dad, sister or brother, or cousin to the war of terror on Iraq then I'd say that Bush has failed us all. All the people who died on 9/11 because they didn't believe the memo from the Clinton people that said that Bin Laden was determined to attack us here in the USA scream with one voice and they say that Bush failed in his job.

Rove and the rest of them like to chortle that in 50 years no one will remember that Bush had shoes thrown at him (Has that happened to any other President? NOPE) and they like to say that history will vindicate his current low poll numbers. What they are counting on is that people only listen to FOX news or to the latest right wing political pundit who will shout over everyone and proclaim that Bush has been the second coming of George Washington. But what they know in their devious little hearts though is that history is written not by paid political pundits or by party hacks, it is instead written by sober scholars who look at facts and place things in proper context. And it it precisely those people who will rightly judge Bush/Cheney to be the epic failures they really are.

Feel like reading another feel good Obama victory story?

Sparky's dad is in his mid 80's and he's been a rock ribbed Republican all his life. The man told people for years that Archie Bunker was one of his political role models. He had cataract surgery on one of his eyes yesterday and he still managed to vote.

When Sparky called him tonight, which is his birthday as well, to see how he was feeling and to wish him a happy birthday, she said, "Well daddy, I guess I got you a new President for your birthday."

She told me he laughed a little bit and then he said in a serious tone, "You know I never voted for a Democrat for President in my entire life...until yesterday that is. I think that young fella is good fit for the job."

When the Republicans lose the vote of an 80 something World War 2 vet then you know they've lost their cachet with the rest of us.

And in a side note to the Obama victory last night, how cool would this be? It's going to be nice to have competent people in the White House cabinet for a change.
