Milwaukee is full of wonderful parks thanks to the socialist mayors of the early 20th century. The town benefited from great improvement to the infrastructure in other ways (trolleys, sewers, etc.) from these same mayors and their belief in the power of government to do good.
What saltchunk said. Plus, the socialism of Milwaukee was called "sewer socialism" and spreading north to Green Bay brought us such outrageousness as the socialist football team, the Green Bay Packers.
Sadly, Milwaukee County's leader would like very much to close down all those parks if he could. He's tried and failed in the past, but who knows.
Oh, and that's not palm fronds in the foreground, its sumac. And that's not lake water in the background, it is a large sea of beer.
I love old postcards like these! One penny for postage. Tinted.... photo? The transcription is great. Travel meant something different then than it does now.

Barbie-Ain't it though.
Jess-Is there a sea of pee next to the beer sea?
Barb-Yes.
Crayons-Travel used to mean learning and having fun, now it means spending and consuming.
