My 2010 Oscar picks

Best Picture-In a very crowded field the sleeper film An Education wins. Although The Hurt Locker will be the favorite. If A Serious Man wins, I may have to commit suicide.

Best Actor-Jeff Bridges. It's going to be one of those 'body of work' awards for Mr. Bridges. And in his speech he'll announce that he uses his brother Beau Bridges for spare body parts.

Best Actress-Sandra Bullock. Ick. It's out of my hands though.

Best Supporting Actor-Stanley Tucci. But it's obvious that the Hollywood power structure wants Matt Damon to win it since they nominated him in the supporting actor category even though he's the lead in the film he's been nominated for.

Best Supporting Actress-In what will be viewed as a triumph for plain looking women every where, Vera Farmiga will take home this years prize.

Best Director-Kathryn Bigelow. She's done great work in the past and this is her year.

Precious will get shut out and there will be a big controversy about it across all media, except on Fox Noise channel and the KKK Network.

The shape of things to come

In the aftermath of the loss of the Senate seat for the Democrats in Massachusetts, this is what is going to happen next (and I encourage you all to bookmark this post so in a few months when the Democrats get their asses handed to them in the mid term elections you can see how correct I am):

The Democrats will move rightward, which will be a huge mistake. They'll listen to the pundits like Bill Kristol, who has been wrong about everything, who will tell anyone who will listen to him that the Democrats need to become more like Republicans to win. All the talking heads at FOX Noise will bray and snort that the Dems need to be more conservative, when in fact they need to do the opposite.

People in this country are crying out for two (or more) distinct political parties that have different positions on the issues and challenges facing our country today. We want actual differences in the Republicans and the Democrats. But what the Democrats give us in times like this is a party that is Republican Lite. They think that they'll garner votes by tilting to the right. But that only accomplishes pissing off the liberal and progressive base who will decide to sit out the election rather than elect someone who is not really a liberal Democrat.

So the national Democratic party will listen to the pundits, move rightward, piss off the liberal base, and then what happens next? The Republicans win a majority in the Congress and they make Obama's life a living hell and probably try to impeach him like they did Clinton.

This kind of thing happened in the aftermath of Reagan's landslide victory in 1984 and again in the mid term elections of 1994. Harry Reid, who is the worst Democratic majority leader in my lifetime, and Nancy Pelosi do not remember the past so they are condemned to repeat it. And honestly, to them, having a majority is not important, what's important to them is getting re-elected so they can stay in their cushy jobs and suckle at the teat of government while helping out their pals in big business. They're just a little less obvious about it than the Republicans are.

Mark my words, if the Democrats don't move LEFT and become more progressive, they're going to lose in 2010 and most likely 2012 as well.

Let's go back in time...

...to hear the predictions about the future from Michelle De Nostradamus.
Bon jour everyone! Welcome back to 1965! We use lots of exclamation points here in the murky almost sepia toned past!! Don't be afraid, but do hang on and check out some predictions I made years ago. Let's see how they turned out, shall we? Of course we shall or I wouldn't be in this blog post!!

In 1965 I predicted: That an unpopular President of the United States would step down during the middle of an unpopular war that was waged so that munitions companies could clear out their inventories. Turns out I went one for two on that one. But maybe I'll get lucky and Bush will resign or get impeached soon.

In 1965 I predicted: Men would one day walk on the Moon, marry one another, and yet still be insensitive bastards. I got two out of three.

In 1965 I predicted: The rich powerful countries of the world would eradicate poverty and hunger in the poorest countries. I had no idea they'd do it through war, neglect, and multi national corporate oppression.

In 1965 I predicted: That Richard Chamberlain would father a child with Barbara Streisand. I'm allowed one miss. Which is one more Miss than Mr. Chamberlain had, zing!

In 1965 I predicted: That United States citizens would have universal health care for all by the year 2006. Turns out I was right, well if you count only members of Congress, the President, and all the members of his cabinet as citizens.

In 1965 I predicted: That aliens would come to the USA. If you count all the damn illegal Belgians and Albanians who slip into the USA over the Mexican border then I was right!

In 1965 I predicted: That affordable housing would be found for all people who want it. If you count cardboard boxes as houses then I got this one right too!

In 1965 I predicted: That monkeys would finally reproduce the works of Shakespeare on those typewriters we gave them. Those darn simian writers did me one better, it turned out they came up with blogs like this one! And this one.

However in 1965 I had no idea what the hell a blog was. Sacre bleu, my head lamp that I use to peer into the future is giving me a head ache. I must retreat back to the past and have wild promiscuous sex with many sexy young men and women while I gobble up fine gourmet food and wine. Adieu!
