The biggest winner of the 2010 midterm election is...

...the multinational corporation.

Since they can now spend whatever they like on elections, they spent like crazy to get their chosen candidates elected. They chose to demonize the candidates who might dare oppose or regulate them and they used fear based advertising to make their opponents lose. And it worked.

How fucked up is it that a corporation can spend an unlimited amount of money to influence the outcome of a political race but you and I are only allowed to give up to $1000? It's pretty fucked up. It's also pretty fucked up that corporations are 'people' and that money is considered 'speech.'

Multi-national corporations bought and paid for this Republican led Congress and they'll get to write the laws in it. So if you think that they've stacked the deck in their favor now, you ain't seen nothin' yet. BP will get off without even a slap on the wrist for destroying the Gulf of Mexico, big pharma will kill with impunity now, the FDA and the EPA will be defunded, and war and defense related businesses will boom. All that wasteful spending on the social safety net will be redirected into the pockets of defense contractors, oil companies, and media corporations.

Corporate America won last night and you and I are about to be screwed over yet again. They won, we lost. Look for them to pay less taxes, be less regulated, and to gain more power over our lives. And sadly, look for the spineless Democrats led by Tim Kaine and President Obummer to move further to the right.

Welcome to the future.
Welcome to the Corporate States of America.
Welcome to hell.

You're absolutely right. I'm listening to the coverage right now and the pundits are already talking about how the President is going to have to work with business now. Now? Really? Did they not see how he already worked with business to tailor the health reform bill to assuage Big Insurance?

I used to get a chill reading Neal Stephenson's "Snowcrash," or "The Diamond Age," in which he depicted our culture devolved into 'claves' or 'corporate zones'. I don't want to give into catastrophist thinking but it would seem we're headed there.

It's a sad day for rational thinkers. The only bright spot is money didn't win in CA and NV.

I live in Tucson, AZ. and the brilliant people of this state just elected a brain-dead cretin, whose only qualification to be governor is that she is a cerified x-ray tech. And oh yeah, she signed SB70, which was co-authored by her friends the privately owned prison correctional lobby who stands to make a lot of money putting illegal immigrants in their private jails. I'm so happy we are marching into the future, led by right-wing f*cking morons.

Then maybe the masses--that's us--have to say fuck no. I know it's hard, but it's not impossible to buy American made products. do they cost more? Generally yes. But they last longer. Hell I have a pair of $5/pair organic cotton socks that has last more than four years of regular wear and washing. Try doing that with a $1 pair made by slave labor in China. Long and short, it's time to starve the beast.
