A Monkey TV Series Review

We saw the first season of Flight of the Conchords last year while we were getting free HBO and we loved it. When we moved and they hooked the cable back up we found out that we didn't get HBO for free anymore, so we missed the second season of this offbeat comedy show. Thankfully it hit on DVD last week. I went to my local corporate DVD rental store and they didn't have it for rent so I drove across the street and I bought it at Target because that's how much I love this show.

The quick review of this DVD is that the second season is even funnier than the first. And the reason is because the focus is not just on the two leads this season, it has widened to include the other characters. Murray, the band's inept manager gets more screen time this season and holy hell is he funny. The characters of Mel, Dave, and Doug, all get more screen time and many of the funniest scenes as well. New to this series is the character of Brian, the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

This show is hilarious but not in the usual American sitcom way. It's got no laugh track and all of the characters are dead pan in their delivery. A lot of the jokes and funny scenes come at the expense of the two stars and they also make fun of their home country of New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. This season's episodes were a treat from start to finish. Although the last two episodes weren't as great as the first eight, but heck they were still good, they just weren't great.

If you're not familiar with this show then watch the first season before you watch the second season's shows, you appreciate them all the more if you've seen the first ones. And if you've seen this show and don't think it's funny then you need to go see a doctor because something is very wrong that brain of yours. I can't recommend this show highly enough. I know we'll watch this DVD over and over and we'll laugh just as much as we did the first time we saw it. It's pure fun funny timeless comedy.
