1) When did people become so stupid that Blockbuster employees feel they have to inform you that the foreign film you picked out to rent has subtitles? Honestly, you guys and gals at Blockbuster, I don't need you to remind me that the fucking film I picked out has subtitles. I realize that what I'm about to say my as come as a shock to you but there are people out here who read about movies and who know god damned well that some movies have subtitles. Not all of us are morons who rent Meet the Deedles, Let's Go to Prison, and whatever cinematic masterpiece Dane Cook currently has out. Those of us with a little taste know full well that the film we rented is Dutch with English subtitles and we know that the films with the Asian people on the front on the box are in Chinese, Korean, or Japanese as well. If your damn company hadn't bought every other competitor out and squashed all the Mom and Pop movie rental stores everywhere then I wouldn't even set foot in your damn store. Do yourselves a favor and stop treating your customers like we're idiots.
2) Why is it that when your local cable company raises your prices they say it's because they're giving you such excellent service? Bullshit. I got a letter from the greedy shitheads who run Charter Cable about the new price increase they're about to hit us with and in this letter they had the balls to write, "Charter is committed to providing you greater value and has recently taken steps to enhance your entertainment services...." Really Charter? When the hell did that happen? What steps did you take to enhance my service? The only thing I see that you've done to enhance things is outsource all the customer service jobs to the Philippines. And that only enhanced your bottom line because you pay those people a hell of a lot less than you used to pay the Americans who had those jobs previously. And I'll tell ya something else, those people in the Philippines who you hired to do those jobs, they do't understand English all that well so it's really maddening to try to get them to understand what it is I'm trying to tell them when I have to call them. Hey all you cable companies, stop enhancing our services and try doing better at the ones we currently pay for.
Deep breath now.
Inhale.
Exhale.
That's better. I'll be all right in a minute.

I'm going to start charging people to read my blog so I can enhance their services. Or find out if negative readership is possible.
I know all too well what it feels like when the littlest things get you all worked up. I think it's the pace and the inhumanity of modern life. I doubt that the early druids had stress attacks like we do. I hope all is a little bit better now.
By the way, when Blockbuster warned me about the subtitles, I dropped the DVD as if it were hot metal. I shouted "SUB-titles?! I'm never setting foot in here again!"
Umm, I'm about to make martinis, would you like me to shake up an extra for you> You kinda sound like you could use one.

dont also love when they raise the prices because they SWITCHED the channels around to give you better service. Sure Food Network serves me better at channel 50 than at 43. Also i notice i have 4 FOOD NETWORKS all playing the same thing -- including one ON-Demand -- just what i need is Emeril on demand,
i am sure part of my 3 figure bill goes the 700 unnecessary channels i have! Thanks Time Warner. also why do i have to pay for YES and the Yankees (which is over $2/month) for which i have never and will never watch, same with MSG, Sports NY, ESPN and ESPN2. Also i do not watch any of the religious, korean, spanish or kids channels you so nicely provide me for good service -- at a cost.
now you want to charge me $35 just to get another box so i can watch the same crap in the bedroom -- and you wont let me pick it up -- you have to have someone come here for $85 to deliver it!
Monkey- First, all I have to say is Netflix for the first issue. Netflix don't care if it has subtitles and they don't look at you funny when you get foreign movies, hell they recommend more foreign movies that they think i might like.
Second- Yeah cable companies suck, but the only solution is to get rid of your TV, not bad solution, but not a perfect one.
By the way, nice game by the Skins today.
Have you ever noticed that whenever you are in line at the evil Blockbuster and they are on the phone leaving a message to someone to remind them that they still have not returned their movie after 2 months, that it's always Garfield 2: A Tale of Two Kitties or Jackass or something that they are phoning about, never Pan's Labyrinth or The Seventh Samurai?
In the Blockbusters up here, Canadian films are located in the foreign films section. Wha?
Monkey: don't know about the Blockbuster thing-(although their selection of the more eclective/foreign movies sucks!) but we in ABQ have had a lot BS with Comcast. They keep raising the prices, and not adding channels, or having poor service-(channels being out or not showing well, etc etc) they are about the only game in town -except for Qwest which is DSL, so they know they can gouge!
Sometimes you need to rant!
Netflix is the answer I believe. It is worth it in my opinion.
Charter sucks ass worse than Time Warner, but that is like saying that malaria is not as bad typhoid fever.
Lulu beat me to it--I was making Sazeracs here, but a martini works just as well.
You're totally right on all those points.
I'm going to visit LuLu. :)
The people who work at our Blockbuster wouldn't have a clue what a subtitle was if it smacked them up side the head.
Oh, and another thing. I'm glad you were able to get this anger out, sweetie wheatie.
As my friend Mina used to say, we have Eastern European levels of service at Western Democracy prices!
it'll be alright.
Two words
Direct TV
and
Netflix.
Okay, technically, that's 3 words. I haven't been in a Blockbuster in 3 years.
Tell you what, though; get Brokeback Moutain from Netflix and the fucking robot thinks your gay forever.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Randal-I'll pay you a ha'penny to read your blog.
Crayons-Ha! Way to go, I'll try that in Blockbuster next time.
Lulu-I'd love to have a drink with you dear.
Dcap-Cable is evil.
Boxer-Netflix requires a credit card doesn't it? I have no credit cards so I will continue to go to Blockbuster, but I'll hate it while I do it.
Barb-People and Blockbuster are strange.
Jane-That's disturbing.
Micgar-Yeah I needed to rant ASAP.
Fran-They all suck ass.
Bubs-I'll have what you're having.
PoP-Let's both go visit Lulu when she gets back to Bangladesh.
Matty-Your friend was right.
UberMILF-I love you too honey.
Duros-Does your TIVO think you're gay?
