A Monkey Movie Report

Jim Carrey plays a man who comes out of the closet with a vengeance, becomes a con man, gets sent to prison where he meets the love of his life, Phillip Morris (played by Ewan McGregor), tries to give up conning but can't, and then does everything he can to get out of prison so he can be with his man. The stuff he does is incredible. it even includes faking HIV/AIDS in order to get released from prison.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a gritty crime film, it's a wildly funny and sometimes pitch black comedy that had us in stitches. Carrey is a hoot as the tenacious gay con man who will not let a little thing like prison stop him from being with the man he loves. McGregor is good as his love interest, but for me, Leslie Mann steals this film. She plays the woman Carrey marries before he comes out and she epitomizes the kind of Christian wife you'd want if you came out after years of marriage, she accepting, loving, and holds no grudge because she lets her god be in control. She doesn't judge, she does the best with what she's been dealt.

A word of warning, this film features lots of man on man kissing and simulated man on man sex. If you're squeamish about seeing that sort of thing, you ought to skip this one. But if you're up for it, this film will definitely make you laugh. I recommend it.
