Monkey Movie Reviews

Run Fat Boy Run is a funny movie. It's not a great comedy but it is a touching and well done comedy. As usual Simon Pegg is outstanding and he's surrounded by a cast that acquits themselves well. My only problem with this film was that Thanide Newton is too skinny. Seriously, she has become Lara Flynn Boyle/Keira Knightly skinny and it does not look good on her. Hey Thandie, have a sandwich or three on me babe and get a little junk back in your trunk.

For you Little Britain fans out there David Walliams shows up in this film. His cameo is a riff on his Mr. Man character and it's one of the funnier bits in the movie.
Much funnier than I thought it was going to be and it's mainly due to Amy Poehler. Tina Fey, wisely in my opinion, stepped back and gave the laugh lines to her co-stars and they all shine in their comic roles. Steve Martin as her money grubbing new age boss is also good in this movie. I highly recommend this movie for some brainless fun.

Allow me to summarize the symbolism of this film: Good and evil will always battle it out and sometimes innocent people will get caught up in that battle and they'll die for no good reason. That's it. That's what this movie is about. Good clashes with evil and Kelly MacDonald does a preposterous accent and at one point allowed herself to be filmed while sporting a bad hairdo. Did this movie deserve all the Oscars it won? Meh, not if you ask me. It's actually a pretty pedestrian heist gone wrong/no honor among thieves movie in my humble opinion.

I saw Run FB Run, too, and thought it was kinda ho-hum. I noticed David Williams, too, which was pretty cool.

I also saw No Country and thought it was ho-hum, too. I agree that it didn't deserve all the Oscars it won.

I do recommend Burn After Reading, though. The Coens are back!

RFR wasn't one of Pegg's best movies but I enjoyed it far more than Hot Fuzz. What a disappointment that one was. No country was quite good I thought but a bit slow in places. Javier was fantastic! From the previews for Baby's Mama, I thought it was going to be along the same lines as all those crappy yet much hyped comedies currently out there (think Superbad, etc) however Steve Martin does make it sound promising. I'll check it out.

I love No Country.

I agree about RFR. I thought, "this movie is great for the genre" and "Simon Pegg sure has a talent for knowing the peers of the films he makes and creating a fine new piece."

Baby Momma really surprised me, I thought I would dislike it, but I enjoyed it. Not the best ever, but good for some laughs.

I was riveted by NCforOM. I saw it in the theater opening day, maybe that makes some difference in the intensity. Javier was driven and without conscious. The entire tome of the film was dead on, imho. I felt the same about "There Will Be Blood", which I saw very soon before or after, whatever the release dates were.

Hah, we also saw Baby Mama this weekend, and I knew I would like it because I love Tina and Amy.

On another note, I like how you keep changing your header, although it makes me tired that you can do that when I barely can roll out of bed, so I guess I'm mad at you, after all...

smoochies!

I can't wait to see RFBR, as Simon Pegg is my boyfriend.

I did think that Javier Bardem was fantastic and so scary in NCFOM.

When NCFOM ended, I was all, WTF? That's it? But I have found that the film has really stayed with me, and I think about it from time to time, which is always a good test for me of quality. And the scene where Tommy Lee Jones talks about his dream of his dead father? That alone is worth an Oscar.

My daughter conned me into renting Baby Mama a couple of weeks ago and I have to admit, it was rather cute. Sigourney Weaver's character was hilarious, non?

I loved No Country - scary, intense, and the non-hollywood "ending." Romantic comedy is something I generally steer clear of, but Simon Pegg made it worth it, or *more* worth it. It's weird seeing non-animation Hank Azaria after all his Simpsons characters. I didn't recognize his voice.

Baby Mama would have to be better than I think it would be, but I doubt that we will ever find out, unless it starts playing on basic cable and we're flipping channels.

I'll have to check out Fat Boy... I've been a big Simon Pegg fan ever since Shawn of the Dead, cuz that's right up my alley. Have you seen the series Spaced? I was just going to blog about it.

I really loved No Country except for the fact I totally didn't get the Woody Harrelson character - he was supposed to be some bad ass, like the Swamp Fox or something, then he gets killed after just a scene or two, by not suspecting someone followed him to his hotel??? Seems he should have been a whole lot smarter than that.
