That Ace of Cakes dude had better watch his ass

I made Sparky's cake today and here's how it went:

I started with a Devil's Food cake mix, some dark chocolate frosting and a jar of seedless raspberry fruit spread. I mixed the cake mix up according to directions and then I put the batter in the pans.

Check out the fancy new countertops. When the oven was ready I baked the cake and then when it was done I took it out and let it cool for a few hours.

After a few anxious moments getting the cakes out of the pans I began the next phase. I put the best of the cakes, that would be the one that did not have a little piece broken off, on the bottom and then I spread the fruit spread on top. Then I gingerly laid the other cake on top, worked the little broken piece in, and I frosted it in place. Then I frosted the rest of the cake. And taa daa, here's how it turned out:
Not the most beautiful cake in the world but it will be tasty nonetheless. We'll cut it later after we get back from dinner out and maybe we'll watch the DVD copy of The Door in the Floor I got her for her birthday, or perhaps she'll read the new David Sedaris book I got her while I incessantly change the channels on TV until The Daily Show comes on or until I decide to start watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on HBO On Demand.

Hey - cake is cake in my books.

Those non-stick pans are a scam.

That's a better looking cake than my man made me for my birthday last week . . . oh ya, he didn't that's right.

I agree with WC. Cake is cake. It's ALL good.

It looks like a monkey made it! Oh...wait...

Kidding! I'm just envious, because it would take armed invaders, holding guns to his head, to make my hubby bake me a cake.

I'd be pretty thrilled if someone baked a cake as brilliant as that one for me. Well done. :D

There's a local chain of Italian Beef restaurants up here that sells slices of chocolate and lemon cake.

We always had to order some for dessert because it was so very, very yummy.

One day we walked in just as they were first opening, and we saw them finishing off the cakes for sale that day -- they were Duncan Hines! With Duncan Hines frosting!

So, I guess I'm saying you made a wise grocery shopping decision with the Duncan Hines.

My mom used to put jelly between the layers of all the cakes she made--you just reminded me of her! *sniffle!* You're such a sweet monkey.

Very nice.
Enriched Geranium has never made me a cake, and I've made him plenty -- from scratch -- AND knit him some sweaters too. Where is the justice?
I take back what I said earlier. You're a very GOOD monkey.
