Most excellent question Samurai, excellent indeed. While my love for brunette women is known by regular readers of this blog, all the women I have had long term relationships with have been brunettes and of course I have a thing for Salma Hayek and the gal who played Jane on the BBC show Coupling, I have to pick Betty.
Veronica is from a rich snooty family and I always thought she led Archie around by his "nose," if you know what I mean. Ms. Lodge is a shallow, vain, wealth obsessed twat.But Betty on the other hand exudes that girl next door sexiness. She seems nice and eager to please, willing to go the extra mile to keep her man happy. I grew up reading the Archie line of comics and I was a mere slip of a lad when Sugar, Sugar by the Archie's was a top ten hit and during all that time I carried a torch for Betty.
As for the recent "face lift" all the Archie comics characters got, I, like most people. despise the way the new Betty and Veronica look. In a stupid attempt to make them "hip" and "modern" looking they have eviscerated what made them cute and enjoyable to read. Sometimes change is a bad thing, especially when it comes to redrawing timeless comic book characters.

That picture of them kissing gets me all hot and bothered, but really, when I look at their fashion portfolios there, it looks to me as though they might be the same young woman, with two different wigs. I like the black wig better.
I like the idea that both of them look exactly the same myself, but for different reasons...
I like both of them. You can always try to "change" Veronica. Pit them against eachother in a little cartoonesque love triangle. Whew! Think I read too much into this!

My brother use to read the Archie Comics all the time.
He once had a dream that I was dating Veronica. Which of course was the right one for me.
