I'm with you, Dr. M. I've been a fan since I was a young tyke in the sixties and my brother brought home "The Songs of Leonard Cohen." I tried to find a video of "Democracy Is Coming to the USA" to post, but the one I found appeared to be a promo for Ron Paul!! I hope that's not where Mr. Cohen's sentiments lie. Cinderbelle is a fan, by the way. She's got good taste for an 18 year old ... though it's a little unsettling, given that LC is around 70!
I've been a huge fan of Cohen since I first heard him as a teenager. He's written about twenty songs that are "if I could only write one song that good" songs to me.
Did you know that he and Rebecca Demornay were an item for a while? Go Leonard!
Hi There - I am new to your fine blog and I have to say that I am quite impressed so far with your thought provoking ruminations.
I am also impressed with your knowledge of some of Canada's finer cultural exports - Leonard Cohen, Kids In The Hall, Neko Case (well she's an honorary Canadian).
Cohen is the Man as far as I am concerned - he melts together the sacred and the profane with ease, he can make you laugh and weep at the same time - profound spiritual longing and deep lust all thrown together in the mix.
I remember reading out loud one of the more explicit passages from Beautiful Losers in a self directed English class in high school just to get a reaction. I carried that novel everywhere and would read portions of it to the young women that I wanted to woo - if they were turned off by his writing I kind of figured that they weren't worth pursuing in the first place.

Did you hear Mr. Cohen is planning a North American tour this spring?
I'm not tearing off my blouse just yet.
Have you heard that "Canadian" is a new racial slur?
Unbelievable.

Long live Leonard!
