On this day 45 years ago a very pregnant working class housewife with a bad heart left her four small children in the care of others and she went to Martin Place West hospital in Detroit. As the rain poured down outside she gave birth to me, the last of the brood.
That's me barefoot, smiling, and happy to be alive one year later.

It's been quite the trip to get from the housing projects of Detroit to where I am today. I'm glad to still be around and I hope to be around for another 45 years.
In the meantime, I'm gonna enjoy my birthday cake. Mmmmm, German chocolate cake, mmmmmmmmm.

Happy birthday Monkey Man! Love the shot of your mom; I'll have to check out the other older shots you have up.

I'm also a baby of the 60s and it's funny how photos from those years now make us look....well, kind of old....

Poor George would kill you for loving German chocolate cake (he hates it) - but I think he's cracked.

Toasts to you, drink up!

Happy B-Day.

As a present you may chose one celebrity who will suddenly stop being famous and no one will talk of them ever again.

Chose wisely.

It's hard to keep track of birthdays using the Star Date calendar, so I'm glad the good Dr. Z reminded us.
Have a happy birthday!

Hey, Monkey -

Happy birthday! I think you must be a Libra like me. What fun. No wonder we are both so damned cool and balanced when most others are just fucking nuts.

Many happy returns of the day! I am imagining a birthday cake for you, Banana Cake Cockaigne, p. 680 in The Joy of Cooking. Look it up, and imagine it too. I used to always make it for my kids' birthdays, 'cause they were little monkeys and plus, I could pretend it was somewhat healthy. (Ha!)

I've been meaning to tell you that the photos of your mom are really beautiful. What a lovely woman.

Eep! I'm late saying Happy Birthday to Dr. Monkey. I spent all day yesterday at the zoo and not being online. What kind of little brother am I?

Hope you enjoyed your birthday, Dr. M. And if there's any of that German chocolate cake left...

By the way, that photo of your mom is incredible. She looks like some famous poet or architect or something. Awesome.

Once again thanks to all of you for your great birthday wishes. And thanks so much for your nice comments about my late mother. She would have blushed hard at all your compliments.
