We'll whip those damn dirty Buddhists yet!

The cover of this mid '60's war comic book was clearly pandering to the white male Christian in all of us. The man eating idol was obviously supposed to be Buddha upon first glance. But it's symptomatic of the bait and switch that comic book covers are so well known for because once you read the story inside the covers the idol looks nothing like the one on the cover. The cover is saying that Buddhism is bad and the story inside is saying that the Communists, or as the characters refer to them as, the Reds, who hide inside false idols in order to kill good white Christian Americans are bad.

Of course the comic also ignores the fact that the vast majority of Americans who fought against the Communists were African American and Hispanic.
