- 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,'
- ending the wars of terror that are bankrupting this country,
- stopping the Bush era assaults on our civil liberties,
- amending and eventually repealing the Patriot Act,
- and his marked lack of leadership on the health insurance reform issue.
I'm not psyched about his State of the Union later tonight. I expect he'll say all the right things that right wing and the media pundits inside the beltway want him to say. And he'll give us who worked to elect him the cold shoulder once again.
But I'll listen to what he's got to say. However I am not optimistic.

I am so depressed about Obama's first year and he isn't even my leader. Nothing he does or doesn't do really effect me. I just really hate all the stupid things you guys have to put up with just because no one wants to take responsibility for rocking the boat or doing the right thing just because it IS the right thing. He is such a mouse it makes me crazy. Have some balls, kick some ass. You may not win but you will be able to live with yourself for the rest of your life. Choose the hills you want to die on and start climbing to the top. Everyday wake up and say 'This IS a good day to die'. GAH! The only thing that empowers the right is your timidity. Become SHAFT. Kick some ass and take some names and if ANYONE even looks at you funny you take him aside privately and have the secret service squeeze their balls for five or ten minutes. Remind them that YOUR name is on the country's mortgage and the buck stops with you.
I feel like I just bought some Floam.
Im with the Canadian. Elect me! I have nothing to lose
I'm with Cal. The only thing that makes me feel any good at all is that the alternative was so hideous, it was unthinkable.
"Americans have a US President who is going to say tonight -- we cannot afford our future, we cannot afford investment in ourselves, but we can afford to bail out Wall Street financiers, and we can afford to pump $250 billion into two small countries abroad, but we can't afford to do the right things by American working families -- who deserve far better."
from here
I agree, I am a bit disappointed, however I remain optimistic. One year is not a lot of time in white-house terms, plus I think I was expecting some kind of instant magic to come from his administration, and that's not realistic. Compared to the last presidency, I at least, still have Hope.
OMG... is that friggin thing on tonight?
That means I'm going to have to watch... *gulp* Canadian television!!!!!!!
((Hugs))

You know what? I can't listen to his speech. I have the same feeling of disgust in my stomach as when W gave his SOTU addresses. Yes, Obama gives a much better speech, but I'm tired of speeches...time to see some action. I'll check the usual places to see what the consensus is, but no listening for me.
I watched it with some trepidation, but I have to say he managed to charm me all over again with his utopian views.
That cat can give a helluva speech.
