A Monkey Movie Review

Words that describe this movie: cheesy, bloody, mayhem, over the top, wild, crazy, bloody, fun, fun, fun.

This is one half of Grindhouse, the double feature film experience directed by Quentin Tarentino and Robert Rodriguez. The films were homages to the grindhouse gore fest films from the late 60's and early 70's. And this film reminded me a lot of those old movies that I used to love, you know the kind, the ones your parents hated and tried to stop you from seeing.

This one involves zombies, infections, and guns. Lots and lots of guns. And murders and mayhem. Lots and lots of murders and mayhem. If you're squeamish about violence on film then this movie is not for you. But if you dig cartoony over the top violence combined with lots of cleavage mixed in with some bad acting, along with a dash of self mockery, then this is the film for you.

Among the performances that stood out in a good way for me were those of Rose McGowan (although it takes a lot for me to like her in something because it takes a lot for me to get past the fact that she was married to Marylin Manson). Fred Rodriguez (who reminded me of Hal Sparks), Naveen Andrews, Josh Brolin, and Marley Shelton.

Jeff Fahey's performance also stood out for me but only because it stunk so bad. His character seemed like he was brain damaged even before any of the bad ju ju stuff went down. And has Jeff Fahey ever done a movie where he didn't sport grizzled facial hair and a doofus expression on his face? Also exceedingly bad was Quentin Tarentino. It's been said many times by many other people that Quentin should stick to directing and stop acting and I agree 1000% with that statement. He's so bad he makes Jeff Fahey look like he's Oscar worthy.

Bottom line is this movie is a lot of fun if you like action/horror/zombie films.

I would dress up as a machine gun legged hot babe for Hallowe'en.

This movie had me at 'hot chick with machine gun for leg'. Crazy brilliant.

Marley Shelton was fantastic in that and you should check out Freddy Rodriguez in "Harsh Times" and as Carla's brother on "Scrubs."

If you can get past the fact that David Ayer wrote Christian Bale's character in "Harsh Times" as a little too similar to Denzel Washington's from "Training Day," you'll find gold in that thar film.

I LOVED both of these movies. Totally original and retro at the same time.
