A Monkey movie review

So we saw this at the beach:
It's gotten mixed reviews to say the least. And now I can see why, it's because it's not that good. There I said it. Hate on me if you must but I wasn't impressed at all with this movie.

I love Meryl but in this film she seemed to be playing Julia Child as some demented woman who giggled and guffawed her way through her life and cooking school. Her performance was one note, unfortunately, for me it was a sour one.

I like Amy Adams. She was beyond great in the film June Bug. Her portrayal of a talkative southern gal was so spot on that it hurt to watch it at times because it was so honest and real. But in this movie, meh, she was merely a seat filler for the time when La Streep wasn't yukking it up.

But the performance I hated most of all though was the one by the guy who played Amy Adams husband. Oh my freakin' gawd, he reeked. He was awful and seeing him eat was one of the most revolting things I have ever seen on film. Seriously, watching him eat and say, "Mmmmmmm, thass guuuuud!," almost made me vomit, and it did make me want to choke the life out of him so that he never got to eat on screen again.

There were two bright spots in the movie and they were Stanley Tucci as Julia's husband and Jane Lynch as her sister. If they had made a film around these two characters then it might have been something I might have liked. Sadly, they did not.

I didn't like this movie and even though I can see how others might, I can't recommend it.

Check. Miss this POS. You may have just saved me from a bad movie night with Flannery. Thanks.

Meh - not my cup of tea from the get-go, but I may check it out once it hits cable.

I'll watch it anyway because I'm an unapologetic JC fan, but I'll keep your review in mind.

But, even before I see it, I have to say that I cannot imagine anything more revolting that seeing (and hearing!!!) Sean Connery eat in a movie. Blurgh.

Not something I would see at the theater. I will probably end up renting it when it hits Netflix.

Stanley Tucci was indeed wonderful. I bet every woman who saw the movie wanted to marry him.

You are so on with this review. Couldn't have said it better myself. AND there wasn't enough food porn.

But what did you really think, Dr M?

I only liked the Julia parts. And I adore Amy Adams, but you're right about her in this. I actually liked Meryl's portrayal of Julia Child, and I so adore Stanley Tucci and Jane Lynch that I'll watch them in anything. B/L is that it was just OK.

(I loved it)

Okay, I will stipulate one thing- the guy who played Julie's husband had horrible eating scenes.
It looked to me like a cow defecating, only played in reverse and superimposed over the guy's face.

OK, you've convinced me. I didn't really want to see it anyway because I read Julia Child's autobiography and thought she was the most repulsive creature ever.

Wasn't Julia a demented woman who giggled and guffawed her way through life and cooking school?! I haven't seen it but since we have similar tastes in movies, I think I probably won't like it either.

My friend asked me to see it with her today, I wasn't feeling it anyway but your review has definitely made sure of my response.
