This many:That's right bitchez, I made strawberry jam last night. Those are locally grown strawberries, not organic but they are local, so that's something anyway. How does my first attempt at jam making taste? In a word, delicious.
And no, I'm not sending any of this to any of you. Maybe if I make some more I'll send some out, maybe.

I miss my "canning" days. I lived in a veritable orchard. Grapes, strawberries, black raspberries, apple trees, apricot and cherry trees. I gave away plenty of canned items then. Did I mention my favortie is Strawberry Jam?
If I could make a suggestion based on experience? Try to use up the jar quickly once you open it. It gets mold a lot more quickly than the chemical-laden commercial stuff.
I hope it's really yummy and you love it.
Pretty! I realized, after I got home with an entire CASE of strawberries that I still have almost 20 jars from last year! So, I decided to experiment with some, and made strawberry butter - similar to apple butter. It's pretty good. It used about 20% of the case.
I'll be bringing strawberry shortcake to the PFLAG picnic, tomorrow. Are y'all coming?
We've got a wedding to go to Snad, so no go for us on the picnic.
As I've mentioned a zillion times on my blog, I grew up on a fruit farm, and I'm tellin' ya, unless you have bushels of leftover fruit laying around your farm, the whole canning, jamming thing just isn't worth the expense, time or effort. Go see some Amish and buy their jam. Or buy a farm and spend weeks making hundreds of jars of jam and preserves which will last you through the winter.
You have got to brandy yourself some peaches come August. You'll thank me around Christmastime.
And there I was, about to send you my address and everything...
Since you won't send us jam, would you at least post the recipe you used? I mean, I'm certain that my Little Merry Sunshine Strawberry Jam will never equal Dr. Monkey Strawberry Jam, even if I use the same recipe, but gosh I'd like to try.
Like rubies in jars. There is something so satisfying about canning your own food. Go, Dr. Monkey!
