A sure sign Obama is going to win

The area of Tennessee where I live is very conservative, there has not been a Democrat elected to Congress from this area since the Civil War. The statewide election strategy for a statewide Democratic victory is win big in west Tennessee (Memphis), hold your own in middle Tennessee (Nashville), and don't lose too badly in east Tennessee. Given that type of climate no small business in this area would ever put sign up expressing support for a Democratic Party candidate, until this election that is. I nearly fainted when I saw this up at a local business near my house:
When businesses in one of the most conservative areas of the country put Obama/Biden signs in their front windows then it's, as we say down here, all over but the shoutin'. It's going to happen people, we're going to kick the Republicans asses in a few weeks but we can't get complacent, get off your butts and make sure you vote and remind every person you know to vote. The more votes we have the less likely they will be able to steal this one from us.

Holy shit! That is something! I remember when I was working on a Dem campaign (the one Davis won -FOR ONLY ONE TERM); the head of the Democratic Party for TN told us they would not spend one penny to support Democratic candidates in NE Tennessee because it would be a complete waste.

Interestingly, the fellow (Robert Tuke) who said that is now running for that very seat. I wonder if he's gotten any support for the TN Dem Party...

You and I are noticing the same trend, Mr. Monkey. And even people who (inexplicably to me) have the republican congressional candidate's sign up do NOT also have McCain's sign up.

And Illinois was a McCain state in the 2000 republican primary.

That is remarkable. I'm noticing a distinct lack of McCain/Palin stuff here in GA.

Well, I'm seeing a lot more McCain crap in the yards on my way to work, but the neat thing is that the local Dem party is trying hard not to just concede the rural areas of PA. They're fighting in every little town, in every red county, trying to get as many votes as possible. We went blue for Kerry last time (on the strength of Philly and Pittsburgh), and I'm hoping we'll go blue again for Obama this time.

And then I just hope it's enough!

My better half is in Houston right now and he tells me that people - or oil and gas types - look you straight in the eye and say the only salvation for the country is McCain and Palin.

How can people say that with a straight face?

You're right, this is really a big sign. I would never have believed it myself. Ever. Not until you showed it to me.

I got my mail-in ballot yesterday, and gleefully blacked in the circle next to Obama/Biden.

Well that makes two signs in east Tennessee! The one on my car and this one. Or 3. I'm sure you have one, too.

But we've got to win BIG. To make up for all the dirty voting tricks from the right.

My favorite sign so far, seen on a very nicely decorated cottage in the historic district, "Vote for McCain, and it will be Halloween Everyday" Oh, those ironic hipsters.

hope that's a harbinger of things to come both chez you and chez me.

Where I live (ABQ, NM) I have seen a lot of signs/bumperstickers with Obama/Biden! Its nice because ABQ is on the cusp of super righties from here on south. From here north Santa Fe, Taos, etc is pretty heavily Demo, and I feel Obama will kick but up there.

I hate to be the pessimist, but I am hearing reports (mostly from Fox albeit) about voter fraud claims in Ohio. This is the Rethug's last gasp-they tried to divert people's attention with the Ayers thing, people were too smart for that, now they have this last gasp to derail the Obama express. I hope that that fails miserably.

Hey, another sign - or lack thereof.

My friend in TX said there are NO bumper stickers for McCain/Palin and last election the state was rabid with Bush/Cheney bumper stickers.

Looks like the Unaka/Roan St area, maybe? Everytime I think of JC I start craving lunch at Cootie Browns.
