Hubris will get you every time

Outside of their intellectually bankrupt ideas, the reason why Republicans are losing so much ground is two fold:
The first part of why they are on the down swing is because years ago they got in bed with the religious right and since then people have seen that people like Pat Robertson, John Hagee, and the Farting Preacher are full of shit.

The second reason is they are on the way out is because people like Michelle Bachman and Marsha Blackburn actually believe the bile they hear spewed on right wing hate radio. When you believe your press clippings and the crap they say about you on the Rush Hannity Hate Hour then you're done for.

I'm happy they are on the way out but I'm also afraid the right wing, both religious and radio talking heads, are going to get meaner and nastier in the coming months and years that they are out of power. One can only hope that the Republican party breaks into to two factions with the Jeebus lovin' reactionaries on one side and the corporate lap dogs on the other.

Speaking of hubris, I've given you some awards. Come on down.

I don't know why, but the Farting Preacher makes me laugh every time I see it. Brilliant stuff, really. Brilliant!

That IS something!

I really hope your right wing-nuts get split-up as well, you don't want a united right like we have up here, believe me.

I love hubris! It's my favorite food made from garbanzo beans!

Excess religiosity, anger and hate speech eventually become tedious even for the most dimwitted person.
I think the neo-con, religious nut era is soon coming to an end.

The Republicans are losing their shit because they're about to lose their grip on power.

The will not go quietly, that's for sure. Let's just hope they don't sink the whole damn ship with their angry flailing about.

I think a lot about Steve Earle's song Christmas in Washington. If they lose this one -- which it is starting to look like they might, barring massive voter disenfranchisement -- the hatred and ugliness will not go away. They'll retreat into their secret underground la-BOR-atories and get meaner and possibly stronger. That is frightening.

My sense is that the Republicans will find their back broken as a national party. The huge losses they will incur in the upcoming election will spook them into a stampede to their base and we will see much more of the craziness that produced Palin as a serious choice as VP.

There are at least two precedents for this appeal to the extremes of the base that I can think of which were counterproductive. A third one led to the the people powered campaigns and the fifty-state strategy of Howard Dean that is about to give the Republicans the spanking of the century.

Republicans will be hopelessly mired in the far right and will lose the 2012 election very big and won't recover as a national party for 10-20 years.
