You know what's really good?

This show: I did not see it when it first came out and I resisted renting it at Blockbuster but I had heard people, most notably my friend Todd, rave about it but I refused to believe the hype.

But they started running it again on HBO Zone and I am floored by how good it is. The writing, the acting, the direction, the sets, the costumes, everything is incredible. I'm not a huge western fan, I despise most of John Wayne's western movies, but I love love love this series. Of course it doesn't hurt that is has Molly Parker in it either. And boy howdy, Brad Dourif, Paula Malcomson, Ian McShane, Robin Weigert, William Sanderson, Kim Dickens, and John Hawkes are really really good in this too. They're not Molly Parker, but they're damn good.

And Molly Parker is yet another Canadian Cutie. We're taking over the world you know? And Deadwood rocked.

It's an awesome show, but even my truck-driving ears were surprised by the language sometimes. I realize that makes me sound like a bit of a weenie.

Not to take away from all the great things you mention about the show.

I've heard good things too but have been unreasonably resistant. We're currently catching up on Six Feet Under. It had the book STIFF in it!!

I Looooooooooooooove this show. And this is surprising because I too am not a huge western fan, but I kind of don't even think of this as a "western" as there is nothing typical about it.
We have been watching it on DVD and are putting off watching the last two episodes because I don't want it to end. So no spoilers, dammit!

No love for Timothy Olyphant? No love for Keith Carradine as Bill Hickok? He may be dead (non-spoiler spoiler) but Calamity Jane might still hunt you down and kick your ass for forgetting him, if she can stay sober long enough to get to Tennessee.

I was told - violently, by my own sister - that I need to watch this.

I will, st. torrent.

But must recommend Rome - both seasons - as frickin' brilliant filmmaking.

Eat it up.

Have you read Pete Dexter's book? I gather the series was based on it.
