"Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley!"

I bought this for Sparky for Valentines Day, it's one of our favorite movies ever, and we watched it again last night.

As I watched it something hit me like a ton of bricks, the Mayor (played superbly by the late great JT Walsh) and the rest of the non-coloreds are just like the Bush administration, and the conservative movement in general, in that they offered no hope for the future and they tried to rule using fear and ignorance. They, the Mayor and his pack of black and white backers, tried everything they could, including the uses of fear, violence, and legislation, to try to stop the people from growing and becoming who they truly wanted to be.

If you haven't ever seen this film I recommend it highly, and if you haven't seen it in awhile then see it again soon. And come November, don't let Bush McCain convince you that you are black and white, we're all different vibrant colors and it's time we all shined.

I like that movie and now that you mention it, I can see how the division takes on another meaning of Bush, et al. You're preaching to the choir though, but it sure would be nice to get some converts.

Hope you and Sparky enjoyed your Valentine's Day together. =)

I think we have some converts, sujaco, though I agree that our blogs may not be creating them. The amount of "we don't care about you" that has been exhibited is becoming clear to nearly all non-millionaires.

J.T. Walsh was one of my very favorite character actors. Looking him up, I discovered that Pleasantville was his last movie. It was strange that he and Charles Hallahan, another of my favorite character actors, died less than a year apart, both at the same age.

Hollywood did manage to get them together shortly before their deaths in the movie Executive Decision, along with one of my adopted character actors B.D. Wong. I wonder if B.D. Wong should be worried about his health...

I like this movie a lot, too, Dr. It's one of those I get sucked into if I find it on TV. You're right, the parallels between it and conservative methodology are clear.

That's a good point about the black and whites being the Bush Admin. Forest Gump is another parable for the Bush Admin with Forest being Geo W

I thought Order of the Phoenix was a pretty good metaphor for the Bush administration.

Yup. What you said, Doc.
Down with fascism.

I like how Spiderman just kind of walks around with that look on his face like "What the fuck is wrong with these people?"

Sujaco-Preaching to the choir is effective, Rush Limbo does it all the time.

Matty Boy-We're getting converts every day.

Johnny-You appear to be the kiss of death.

Chris-This movie rocks.

Gifted Typist-Good point about Gump.

Duros-Yeah Spidey rocked in this one.

Love that movie. Yeah, it pushes that preachy line a bit - but in a good way.

Any movie with both Don Knotts and Reese Witherspoon is by definition good.

I don't think Forrest gump is an accurate analogy for Bush. Forrest was succesful in everything he did, despite his, um, condition.

Bush is a failure, not because of it, but ...
Well, he's just a failure.
