Let's get back to the music here on classic country month with one my friend Snad's favorites, Roger Miller. Roger was huge at one point, notice the screaming girls in this video, and then he kind of faded. But then in the 1980's he rebounded, via Broadway of all places, with this music and lyrics to the musical Big River. It is not an exaggeration to say that Big River saved American musicals on Broadway because for many years the only musicals being produced were the crap ones from the hands of Andrew Lloyd Weber and his ilk. Of course Roger's biggest hit was King of the Road, but since this clip has such kooky dancers and since it's about England, the country Roger saved Broadway from, here is England Swings (Like a Pendulum Do)!

Oh, those chicks are adorable.
MizBubs has a huge soft spot for Roger Miller. Thanks for posting this!
Not a Roger fan at all. But Big River was wonderful.
King of the Road is one of those songs that gets in your head and will not go away. Just reading the name of it made it do that. Can I sue you for that?
Thanks, Monkey - that was like a Valentine to me! Engaland Swings, and so do you, baby!
I love Roger Miller. I remember some friends in college and I trying to remember all the lyrics to "King Of The Road." This was, of course, back in the day when you couldn't just pop on the internet and look up the lyrics.
Here in Chicago, a Roger Miller-penned musical, "Pump Boys and Dinettes," played so long that the famed comedy troupe Second City made jokes about its longevity when I saw them in the early nineties.
Agreed. When I did a post on the 15th anniversary of his death. I only included that video because of the dancers.
It's not one of my favorite Miller songs, but man those dancers are "rad."
Who knew the fembots were so versatile.
Love Roger Miller, and love King of the Road. And hate Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice and all their crap musicals. They single-handedly ended Broadway's golden age, ushering in the million-dollar empty craptacular show. A-holes.
