Are there any good corporations?

Long time readers know what I think of the multi national corporations that are killing us and ruining our planet. So you might think that I think all corporations are bad, but you'd be wrong Bucky. There are good corporate citizens in the market place who are responsible and who use their corporate power for the good of the communities they are in. And one of those corporations is going to open a store here in Johnson City.

Meet Earth Fare. It's a grocery store that carries mostly organic foods. Organic foods are grown without fertilizers and pesticides which poison our planet, are grown using long term sustainable methods, and far less mechanization is used in the organic farming process. Earth Fare is committed to buying locally grown organic produce and meats. They also have a policy where they will not sell any products that contain High Fructose Corn Syrup.

They do their best to keep imported produce to a minimum. They also have a bakery, deli, and hot food bar in all their stores. All three of which make and sell organic breads, pastries, and all manner of organic dishes. They also offer a wide range of organic cheese and dairy products.

They offer a complete line of organic and sustainably made health and beauty products, along with other products that nurture one's mind, body, and spirit.
They recycle in all their stores and they encourage you to recycle as well by offering some recycling opportunities. They are a bright spot in an otherwise bleak corporate landscape. I for one am looking forward to shopping at their new store here in town when it opens this summer. It's always good eatin' when you have food that has been grown locally and without poisonous fertilizers and pesticides.

I just heard the Earthfare/Johnson City news a few days ago. We are seriously excited about this.

Yummy. I can't wait to move to a real city that offers more choices for food and goods. It's tough living in the boonies, although we're lucky to still have some local merchants in addition to the WalMarts and Lowes.

Nice store. Be a shame if something happened to it.

You know i love Earth Fare so i am really excited for you to have one in Johnson City. They are also a somewhat local chain, not a mega store like Whole Foods, who they are compared to at times. The only issue with them is that I can't usually afford to shop there, I end up spending more than I should on groceries, not only cause the organic stuff is more expensive which i can deal with but because I find so many things that I want and then i get it. Not such a good thing.

I love the fact that they will be using the recently vacated White's grocery location instead of building new. Way to recycle, Earth Fare!

By the way, Dr. Z - they have Newman's Own Peanut Butter Cups; way better.

Austin-I'm stoked as well.

Dguzman-Move down here!

Dr. Zaius-You're not looking hard enough then.

mnmom-Nope.

Randal-Why do you hate organics?

D Cup-Maybe if they do well here they'll open one near you!

Missy-Huzzah!

Boxer-We definitely have to control ourselves when we go to Earth Fare.

Snad-Yeah, that's bitchin.' I thought they might buy the old Kroger on South Roan but I guess traffic is better in front of the location they bought.

Dear Doctor,

I really enjoyed this post. Did you ever think when you were a little monkey that selling healthy food would be a revolutionary act? It sounds like a really neat place.

Thanks for your authentic comment on my blog.

Yay, I'm stoked about Earth Fare too. This promises to be a whole new shopping paradigm for many of us...

That is cool that they will be using an old Whites. I remember when I lived by a Whites; items like pasta and rice were in an aisle labeled "foreign foods." Dr. Monkey, this could rate a return to Whites when Earth Fare opens, for a sort of compare and contrast piece.

I'm known a the wet blanket, but ... where do their organics come from? My understanding is that many of the corporate organically grown produce is being shipped from China, I kid you not.

I was bummed to read recently that Burt's Bees ships their friggin' beeswax from Ethiopia!

But I'm glad you're getting a good grocery, Monkey. We are incredibly lucky to have an excellent co-op here, and I forget that it isn't so other places, so forgive me for being a snob.

Earth Fare is a really great corporation. I'm proud to work for them. I am also glad that you guys love it so much, as I will be transferring from the Knoxville store to the Johnson City when it opens.
