A rare look inside Monkey Central

This is where the blog magic happens boys and girls, this room that we call "The Office." Long time readers will recognize the stuffed monkey on top of the left bookcase, I used him as an avatar for a few weeks. Some of you may also note that I tried to arrange the books on the bookshelves by color. I saw a photo of someones shelves arranged like that on Boing Boing, I almost got it right but those damn over sized books screwed everything up. Also note the frame album cover on the top left of the picture. It's a copy of Rod McKuen's Listen to the Warm, my Mom was a huge fan of his and that was one of the first albums I remember listening to.

Here boys and girls is where the actual writing gets done. As you can see I have a PC and not one of those fancy Dan lap tops. That little framed picture just to the right of the large plant is actually a miniature flag of the country we once knew as Siam. We bought it from a funky antique shop in Winston Salem, NC.

This the corner of the office where I've hung the nautical chart of Atlantic Beach, NC and my satellite photo/poster of the Outer Banks. That's a playbill from the Chicago premiere Death of a Salesman below the chart of Atlantic Beach, NC.
And finally we come to the end of our little tour with a look at the left side of the door that leads into the bathroom and of the closet doors. That big black S fell off a movie theatre marquee in Roanoke, VA. I found one morning walking to the bus stop and I picked it up and stuffed it behind some bricks that were residing behind a trash can. Later that night after work I looked behind the trash can and lo and behold the S was still there. I picked it up and took it home and I've had it ever since. It's an old time movie marquee letter, it's made out of steel and it's been painted over time and time again. I like it in it's current incarnation. The other metal things below it are a big ring that I think was used on a horse powered carriage, an old timey wrench, and a tap that went on top of a some kind of valve.

I hope you've enjoyed this look inside Monkey Central because you may not ever get another one.

You have such cool stuff in your office. And it's not all just sitting in a pile like it would be at our house (damned pack rats I live with).

I love the stories behind the stuff on your S wall. I like doing similar things in my garden, which has almost more found treasures in it than it does plants.

Out of curiosity, why the big map of England and Wales? (Above the TV in the first photo.)

I have to second the comments.

Impressively neat and orderly.

Strangely enough I now have the urge to come over and re-arrange everything.

Samurai-Thanks.

Infidel-Becasue I liked the antique look of it and because I'm a bit of an anglophile.
