Film Fest Schedule Update!

Due to a band booking at the venue where I'm screening the Socially Conscious films, the Acoustic Coffee House, we're making some changes to the schedule. The line up for tomorrow night is as follows:

• At the River I Stand will screen at 5 PM.
• Abel Raises Cain will screen around 6 PM.
• Battle for Haditha will screen around 8 PM.

Please adjust your schedules accordingly and I apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause anyone.

I'll have a full report on all the films I'm screening in a few days.

Speaking of movies

Our film festival is this weekend! That's right boys and girls, the SOAPIFF (a name which I hate by the way) is happening this weekend!

It kicks off tonight with a gala reception where winners in various film festival categories will be announced, food and wine will be consumed, and schmoozing will be done. Then Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings many venues across this great town of our will host many screenings of many films of all sorts. I'll be hosting the Socially Conscious Film Series at the Acoustic Coffee House so if you're in town or passing by drop in and see some of the fine films we got for this series, I highly recommend Abel Raises Cain, it's a wickedly funny documentary and we'll be screening it on Saturday night around 10 PM.

Abel Raises Cain

We recently acquired this film for this years Southern Appalachian International Film Festival. Go read about it here. I am not exaggerating when I say it's the funniest documentary I have ever seen and if you have not seen it then you should do so right away. You'll never blindly accept what the "experts" on TV say anymore.

Sometimes I use my powers for good instead of evil

I finally landed a film for the Socially Conscious Cinema series at the upcoming Southern Appalachian International Film Festival which will take place here in Johnson City this November!

I emailed the makers of The Witness after I read about it online and I asked them if we could screen it at our festival. Long story short, the director of the film, the fabulous Jenny Stein, said yes to my request! Yay Jenny!

I was keen to get this film because I want people whom come to the part of the festival that I am curating to see films that will expand their consciousness about all living things, humans, animals, and the earth in general. Maybe folks will treat other animals and our earth a little better after seeing films like this.

It's alive!

I finally got my lazy blogging ass in gear and put a post on the film festival blog, so yeah the bastard is up and running. Go check it out, bookmark it, and why not make plans to come visit me at the film festival this year? It's November 14, 15, and 16 and if you start saving right this second you might be able to afford the gas it'll take you to drive here.

I'm curating the Socially Conscious Films series this year. If any of you know of any documentaries that are an hour or less that are available on DVD that are in a social justice vein let me know in the comment section, I'd be very grateful for any help you may have to offer since I'm on the prowl for more films to screen.

It's going to be light posting for me for the next day or so boys and girls. The guy we hired to do the painting and the repairs at Monkey Central is repairing and painting the office where I slave away on the internets. He'll be done in there hopefully by tomorrow afternoon and then I'll be back with my usual cornucopia of posts.

Also, here's some big news on the blog front, as if I don't blog enough, I've just been named the official blog master (or would it be 'blog bastard'?) of the Southern Appalachian International Film Festival. That's a cool film festival we have here in Johnson City. My friend Keith got me involved in it and he got me the blog gig with the film fest folks. I'm doing it for free because I love cinema, blogging, and having yet another forum for my views and opinions. It'll be a great blog full of info about the film fest and things connected to it. I'll have the link for you soon.
