I have the same insane urge. I think it's just to see if and how someone lived in whatever space exists. Maybe it's a throwback to my boy scout days in the 60s when I was trained to live in less than comfortable situations but encouraged to make it comfortable anyway. Maybe it's just to look for ghosts.
