The fading foliage on the mountains combined with the light of the setting sun made quite the sight tonight. I took the above photo on the steps outside my local library. You get kind of a good idea how eerie it looked from the photo but compared to the real thing, my picture didn't do it justice.

Those are mountains? Shucks boy, them is just itty bitty ant hills where I come from.
Shut up Cal. These are the oldest mountains in the world. They were twice the height of yours before your punks were out of their geological diapers. Respect your elders.
Nice, Doc! Looks like a painting, almost.
Shoot; now you just KNOW something involving blood, incest and racial injustice is going to happen here right soon -- that's how eerie it is.
Love Snads comment!
We also had the most amazing orange and pink sunset last night. The setting sun must have been in a good mood.
Fabulous! Those look like mountains on Mars.
That is so beautiful.
What a great shot! Just beautiful.
Snad...your mutha wears army boots
Cal -
She never wore army boots, but she woulda kicked your butt in her strappy sandals for sassing these here (or any other) mountains!
Not to start anything Snad but I could walk around your 'mountains' and still have time to put granny in a headlock before lunch.
Mountains are snow capped all the year long. Deal with it. Hell no respectable hillbilly would call those anything other than what they are - hills. They might be spectacular hills...they are the champagne of hills..but those are hills. Where are the exposed rocks? The mountain goats and mountain lions? Really - google MOUNTAIN IMAGES and see if your nice but sad little undulations show up. We are done here.
Come on down and see for yourself, Cal!
What a wonderful photo. The odd part is the leaves have fallen off the trees on Buffalo Mountain, but that light makes it look like peak weak.
If you take the scrubby buildings out of the foreground, it looks like a painting. I often sit in my front yard and just look at the MOUNTAINS when the sun is at that angle. Spectacular.
Wow, Monkey. I second what Snad said--it's almost like an impressionist painting, even with the buildings. That's a nice one.
I'm always frustated by my camera's inability to capture reality, especially when it comes to sunset/sunrise light. Or maybe it's just operator error on my part.
I like the buildings and the rest of the picture. And Martians (just in case there are any out there reading, you are welcome here.)
You know, you write politically scathing posts and social commentaries that would make some people cry. Yet this beautiful picture, which looks like a painting, the colors and shading are so perfect, THIS is what inspires rancor and arguments?
I am stunned. I am also glad you carry your camera around so you can capture moments like this.
I know Ubie, it's mystified me too. That's why I had to call certain people for their behavior.
Now I know what I missed. ;)
