I grew up in good old North Carolina the Dogwood is our state tree or bush or something. I remember how pretty they were in the spring, but more importantly I recall how when I was bad (which was often) I was forced to go and "cut my own switch" to be beat with! So there's that.
Yes, I miss the dogwoods and the redbuds and the flowering cherry in my old backyard. Somehow, the desert trees don't cut it like the ones back home...
