The next time you hear a conservative try to claim the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr, remind them of this quote:

"We have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifices. Capitalism was built on the exploitation of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor, both black and white, both here and abroad."

To Glenn Beck and to those who say King was a Republican, I say, "You're full of shit."

  1. Even in places where there were few black slaves (Northern States, the Western Frontier, the UK, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, etc.?)

  2. Yes Fred, even in those places too because slavery was legal in the UK and all those other countries benefited from cheap slave labor. And, I'm sure you realize there are poor people in all those places who are exploited as well.

  3. Poor people don't count because it's their choice to be poor.

    Seriously, though, awesome quote.
